sketch man my homie accidentally flipped my front truck like that and i got wobbles at like 40 for no reason almost ate shit i dont suggest messing with your truck geometry and shit
One thing that also helped me was using the red bushings with a flipped cup washer or a flat washer. With that setup I can keep the bolt a bit tighter, which gives me more rebound to center from little movements, while still retaining turn capability on deeper carves.
Try flipping the cup washers, you might like it :)
-Some- kingpins are stronger that way, it depends on how much thread they have cut into them. You want the last thread (weakest point) as far from where it exits the baseplate (the stress point) as possible.
It's important for old randal pins, and non randal 2.5" bolts.
it also helps preserve the baseplate as it's not exposed to the teeth-like thread.
It can however expose the kingpin too much to the road-side, particularly with 3" kingpins and flipped hangers...
@SteveCsf wouldn't flipping the kingpin just eat through your bushings? I just flipped my hangers and left my kingpin how it was. Looking for any one who wants to ride in the coos bay area
just wanna make it clear. is the default flipped or unflipped. and tell me if im right or wrong. unflipped is for carving and flipped is for bombing. right? or wrong?
No it's not necessary, some older kingpins had too much thread cut into them - it put the weak first-thread right where it shouldn't be, just where it exits the plate.
...
All the randals shipped nowerdays have a kingpin with a minimal amount of thread, this leaves the bolt full thickness right into the baseplate. So it's strong either way.
hello i have seismic trucks at the momment on my lush but i was thinking on getting randals do the have as much movement on them like easy to turn and carve? thanks
This depends on which seismic you're replacing with which randal. Seismics come with 45° or 30° baseplates. Randals usually ship with 50° plates, but are available with 60°, 50°, 42°, 35° and 28° ones.
The higher this number, the more steering created per board-lean
There's also quite a difference in the way lean-resistance, and therefore turning is controlled, (spring vs bushing) though both methods are very dynamic in this regard.
well i dont really know anything about randals ive only really ever ridden on alpines and gullwings because thats all the stores around here sell but it just looked like it was possible
this sounds kinda dumb but i have paris 180's and my buddy has randall 180's he changed the bushings and ive change my bushings but were rideing loaded dervishes and i was wondering y the trucks feel soo different if there both 180's

there's a sort of imaginary line between the -pivot- and the -axle-, usually refered to as caster-angle, and this does change.
Altering the caster angle will effect the way it behaves
but not nearly as much as altering the pivot-axis of the truck. The pivot-axis is a line between the pivot and the center of the two bushings, it's this line that is at 42°, and it doesn't change when you flip the hanger
nahh i heard on youtube i think or this site or forum i frget that a flipped randal 42 rides at 39 degree and rides lower obv. but thats what i hear ....
depends on preferance really, unless you're using a non randal 2.5, then it does put the weak point of the bolt, (first thread) further from where it gets the most force. (where it exits the plate)
I could only use my fingers because it was so loose the nylon of the nut wasn't engaged.
I'll assume the kingpin is in it's original position, you can't reach the nut-even if you could it wouldn't turn.
all you need to do is undo the kingpin a bit, you can do it from the very-exposed top of the bolt - I'd be very confused if you can't rotate it anti-clockwise once or twice using a spanner, or pliers for that matter.
Are Randal trucks good carvers? I'm kind of new to long boarding. But i do know that i do not have any hills in my city so i just like to cruse and carve on the street so are these trucks good for carving? Please reply.
yep. they can be set up to provide a very agile ride.
using a mid-length wheelbase, 23 to 26 inches. (measured from the inner bolt holes)
150mm hangers and soft bushings. read the faq on randal's website for more on how to get a carvy feel from a longer board, or to stabilize a shorter one.
-Wheelwells, moves the board further from the wheel, sandpaper on a spraycan is the classic ghetto way of adding/modifying them.
-cutouts, simply removes the section of board that has any chance of hitting the wheel, not always a good idea as it can create weak points- depending on deck thickness/material and hanger width.
-Angled risers, these not only rise the board but can also reduce how far the board has to lean to achieve the same turn radius- downsides are it tends to reduce stability.
that said wedging the front and de-wedging the back is a good way to stabilize it again, though it won't turn quite as well.
Non Randal bolts have a longer thread, and it's a little more likely to break if the first thread is sitting where the pin exits the baseplate.
So if you buy new kingpins from a hardware store, firstly make sure they're grade-8, (marked by six lines on the bolthead) and then put them in flipped.
Or you can get a longer bolt and cut it down. If you have the gear to clean the cut, otherwise it'll eat the nylon of the nut.
I'm uncertain about it bottoming out as that depends on your weight as much as anything.
It'll feel quite different, and I don't think it will really suit a vanguard, try posting this Q on loaded's forum or silverfish, or better still just try it - it doesn't take long.
Whether it damages the plate depends on your kingpin's thread-depth.
New Randals come with a short amount of thread, and they're good either way.

What if u don't flip the pin because your riding with no threads showing? will that still mess up your baseplate?
jerkinboy95 6 months ago
@gremis321
You probably just suck at riding, speed wobble has little to do with ur trucks. It's mostly about your stance and skill.

Yeah, what exactly does flipping the kingpin do? I was a bit unclear on that, does it ride better?

would it work with a randal 150 baseplate and a 180 hanger? i know it would, but aren't the kingpins different sizes?
MUSIQismyWEAPON 2 years ago
Yes it will work, the kingpins are exactly the same size.
Some plates do require a longer kingpin, the 35° for example uses a 1.75", but they're all 3/8 regardless of length.

its a little off topic but you seem to know your stuff.
i am putting together an 80's kicktail style longboard.
right now i have a skate deck on there but that'll change.
i just used some cheap longboard trucks that my friend gave me
but my risers i found out werent big enough to steer clear of some wheelbite.
i had been looking for some longboard risers that i had previously and am gonna try those out.with both risers on
do you think it will cure my wheelbite but still turn as needed
skateson666 3 years ago
There's a few cures for wheelbite.
-Risers, these also increase the board's leverage over the truck.
-Smaller wheels, gives you more room and a lower board. can have negatives as they don't climb debris/driveways etc as well.
SteveCsf 3 years ago
-Wheelwells, moves the board further from the wheel, sandpaper on a spraycan is the classic ghetto way of adding/modifying them.
-cutouts, simply removes the section of board that has any chance of hitting the wheel, not always a good idea as it can create weak points- depending on deck thickness/material and hanger width.
SteveCsf 3 years ago
-Angled risers, these not only rise the board but can also reduce how far the board has to lean to achieve the same turn radius- downsides are it tends to reduce stability.
that said wedging the front and de-wedging the back is a good way to stabilize it again, though it won't turn quite as well.
