  • very nice boat

  • That was just fucking awesome!! Felt like I was in the boat!! Crazy though--12 gallons a minute...5 minutes at WOT= $200!!

  • @michael930turbo Well, it's 6 gallons a minute per engine (only if it's running wide open) and at the cost of fuel today, I tend to keep it running around 100 MPH and if I do take it up faster, I'm not staying in it for more than a few minutes or else my tanks will become empty as well as my wallet!

  • If you're talking to me partcent I'm here send the pics.

  • I was. Check your gmail, there in there now.

  • NIce Boat. How fast were you going in the Video?

I love running up river to Topock.

    Going in May, can't wait

  • We were cruising under 100, not sure exactly since I was not driving, my friend was. Running up the river is a blast. We make it from Windsor to the sandbar in about 6 minutes, Topock is a great run, I love going to breakfast in Topock at that place on the left next to the 40 Fwy. Find me on the sandbar this summer, I am there nearly every weekend through June then we take off for Lake Shasta CA during the month of July with the boat.

  • Cool. We will be there the weekend of the May 22-23. I cant wait to check out Pirate cove. When I was there last year it was not open yet.

  • The only boat I've seen three turbines installed in is the Wallypower 118' superyacht. I think they're almost 6000hp apiece. There's a vid on here of it running. It also has two small Cummins diesels and jet drives for docking. The diesels also power the yacht's systems while at the dock and at anchor.

I know you're in Cali but give Throttle Up props a call and see what they can come up with. They're in St. Pete Fl.

You're almost there and I know you're excited about splashing it!!

  • I was just in Florida for 10 days, got back this past Sunday. What brand props does throttle up have? New or used or??

  • They were redoing Merc and other brands for their race customers but now they make their own. They have lots of experience. Matt and Julie Croce are the owners. Google for their phone number or look on the boating sites for their ads.

  • Thanks for that info I will do.

Do you have any photos of your 44' cat?

Are you located in FL or AZ or where are you at?

  • I had a boat but it was stolen three years ago. Go to yachtforumsdotcom then to the forum technical discussion. Scroll down to the thread "trimarans and the Bladerunner" go to page four posts 56-57. That's my red boat. My name there is catmando.

  • We got the Arneson drives installed last summer, putting a new set of Herring prop's on the drives in a few weeks after doing some testing last year, I will send you some photos if your still around on youtube?

  • Regarding the 44, there is no excuse for building that size cat that weighs 14,000lbs. The 44MTI with full cabin only weighs 10,500lbs. If I had the molds I would put the Magic 44 on a diet of Kevlar, carbon fiber and vacuum infusion.

I might not get it to MTI's weight but I bet at least 2000lbs of flab could be cut out. Dam I sound like a Hollywood Lipo surgeon lol. :D

  • Last time i was in havasu the 44' and 34' cat molds were the ONLY thing left sitting at the magic factory. I bet Ron would let them go cheap since the bank had no interest in the molds. As far as I know they are still sitting up there baking in the sun.

I agree, 15,000 Lbs on that 44 was insane weight, way too heavy for a boat, but that thing did run nice and man it has a ton of space, seating like 12 people outside, a few bedrooms inside, lots of space....lots.

  • Well weight is good in the ocean when you're running in rough seas. On a lake not so much. But think about the 44 at 12,000lbs with 1450hp turbines. That would be at least a 140mph boat. That's way fast enough for an open cockpit boat.

  • The turbines are the way to go if one can afford them. I hear they run for ever, no problems what so ever & you can blow fire for the crowds.

If your 44 footer had triple turbines (actually you would only need 1 turbine to power that boat, not 3) yes it would be a 140MPH, actually it would be more like a 180 MPH boat. Arneson's 44 or 46 foot boat is powered by 1 turbine & he's faster than 160. I have seen the boat run in the bay area my self, all you see from the rear is white water roost

  • I was thinking of twins but one big one like that 4500hp one that Arneson uses would be enough for the big Magic. Think of the maintenance and weight savings. I don't know what it cost to buy it and rig it but the turbine alone was probably over $1M. Then there's all the systems on it such as exhaust, electrical, transmission etc that have to be addressed. Don't forget that turbines were not designed to be used in the Marine environment.

I understand his boat runs 180+.

  • Rik told me that turbines were not that expensive. I think I remember him saying they could be had for under 6 figures each + the drive & rigging for it of course.

3 smaller turbines in your 44' cat would have that boat probably going faster than it should be going. Ya, I am envisioning 180 MPH... man, that's fast. If the boat was to come apart at 180 your done.

  • Engines, transmissions and drives are installed as of a few days ago. Just had 1 last exhaust pipe customization to complete & we should be picking the boat up in a few days. Now we need $10,000 worth of props to complete it after we pay the bill for the conversion to the Arnesons.

  • Deck boat nah I'm an Offshore guy. Your 34 hull would suit me just fine though with a closed deck and your tricked-out cabin, except I would want a vacuum-bagged hull and the lightest cabin materials I could find.

Dart has come out with a 765ci block. I would talk to Alexi Sahagian and see what he would charge to get the most n/a hp from that block. I like the old school look of the Kinser EFI stacks don't you? Alexi does killer computer programs too.

Catalina Island should be no prob with it.

  • Did Rik really recommend the ASD6?? It's only rated for 700hp/650tq. Better use the throttles in a sane manner lol.

Does the ASD have a spline that will accept the Merc #6 props? They're not as expensive as the Rollas.

Sorry to hear that Magic is gone. :( Lots of hulls for sale cheap I hear. Wish I had some cash I would grab a cat.

  • Yes, Rik did recommend and sell us the ASD6 with conversion kit for the bravo. He says he's got these running in 1500+ HP applications and our 1000's will be fine, even if we come out of the water with the props fully loaded, they will not break. My installer shop whom profited zero on the sale of the drives says I cannot break them with my twin 1000's, he's sure of this.

Yes, they can take a merc # 6 prop since the shaft is the same large diameter that the number six drive uses.

  • Long Beach Yahat sales has all of Magic's inventory, if you want a 28 deck boat, go find them and you can get one real cheap, no power, no drives, hull and trailer only, hull is rigged and ready to go, just add power & drives.

Were going with the Rollas but I am going to buy them used. At 6 to 7 thousand dollars each prop ($14,000 total for rollas) I want to go used or go merc.

I am going to buy a 28' Magic deck boat from LB Yacht sales this winter for a spare boat due to the low price.

  • dont be hating on the 44' Super Cat. with trips the boat hits the triple digets! i would know because i own one

  • It's been a while since I have seen a 44 out there on Havasu. I hope to see the 44 running out there some day, I love the space on that boat and if you have your engines loaping on idle, the tripple's sound awesome on the lope.

  • mmm , ok cool ... ?

    I think .....

  • It was a fun day with my insane friend. The sober guy is driving.

  • I think passenger that is yelling and clapping needs a retard helmet on! You should have left him at the dock.

  • That is the best comment yet! Yes we should have left him at the dock!

  • Great Video and a Beautiful boat!

  • dammmn

  • BTW irvinelake, $120,000 is about half the boat's cost, maybe less than half with that power.

  • Heavy boat with all that stuff on it, plus Magic does not believe in vacuum bagging, much like the old Apaches. Yall need a wraparound windscreen too.

How fast did they ever get that 44 with trips?

  • Very true, it's a heavy boat. Toilet, microwave, ice boxes, large bed, couches, it all ad's up to weight, that's why it has 2000 HP. This way you can spend the weekend or even the week on it and still hit a 120 MPH.

  • I don't think the 44 with trips got going very fast and even if it did, i could not imagine the drives would have lasted for than a few hours in a boat that heavy. We are installing a set of Arneson's in this boat in 2 weeks, will add video of the new rooster tails and faster speeds in about a month.

  • partcent yes the 44 should have Arnesons, at least 7s or 8s. Which will you put in this one? You might consider prop ventilators also to help get the boat on plane. I met Rik Wimp at the 2005 LOTO Shootout nice guy straight shooter too.

I'm a HUGE cat lover but I like the 34' Sleekcraft Heritage(Aronow hull). I saw a test of one with 496HOs and it ran almost 75mph. 0-60 was just over 10sec, great performance!

Good luck to Magic/Sleek I hope you guys make it through these bad times.

  • We went with the ASD6 since we had to do the Bravo conversion.

So far no one has mentioned prop ventilators, i will check into that.

Ya, Rik is a good guy. Only problem so far is we paid in full on Jan 15 with a promise of March 1 delivery & it's now April 18th and we are still waiting for the steering rams and a few other minor parts all while this weekend it's going to be 100 degrees at the River.

I hear the rolla brand props are 5K each & I need 2 of them.... it never ends!

  • my 44' super cat hits in the triplet digets but it is a heavy boat.but its worth it i love the all the room!

  • Lets see, 200 gallons of gas at $4/gallon is $800, divided by 16 minutes at 120mph is $50/minute, add $120,000 for the boat should equal bankruptcy and foreclosure of home. I think you better keep your full time job.

  • Great comment! Gas prices this year cost us a few weekends out on the river. The way we have to drive the boat in 2008 is about 1/2 throttle which at that speed we can get a day out of it for about $150 bucks, which still has us running around 85 mph or so.

  • Luckily money is not a big deal, it grows on scooters. $120,000? Try doubling that then add more.

  • Ur right irvinelake but for the people that can afford it it's not a big deal. My buddy has a 36ft skater with 1350's and he blows $4,500 A DAY on racing fuel.

For some folks thats like taking a piss.

High performance boating is NOT for everyone. Hell it took me 3 years of working two jobs and saving my money to be able to afford my 27FT Lavey Craft and I couldnt touch this magic with a 34 FT erect cock if I tried.

Dont hate on the fortunate, be smart and hang out with them instead : )

  • The guy driving gets to drive because we all drink and he does not, that is why it's called Dave Drives us home again.....poor guy, he only drinks mountain dew but it keeps us all safe. We only put on the flotation devices if we are going to bring it up over 100 mph.

We probably hit 100 or so on this day, you can see the position of the throttles in his hand, they are about at 1/2 way.

I have some video of it doing over 115 mph on Clearlake and Lake Shasta, CA, I will put it up soon.

  • How fast were you going? Look like it was super fast!
