ok, actually the s stands for spartan, the 117 is because he was subject number 117 in the selection process, that's why he is seirra 117. not because of anyhting he was in training for, or any other reason

This vid very well done. if anyone has watch the final episode on the legends dvd "the package" you'll see one of the biggest give aways there as to spartan they call 117, and the AI name cortana.

love the ending of halo 3 though if that had been anyone else they be on a 1way trip back to the ark thanks to that scorpion.

@pierocks94 117 is his number he is the 117th spartan II and they are spilt into diffrent groups depending what they are going to be, and he was in the team leaders training group deemed Sierra therefore Sierra 117 :)

@IIamLUKE I don't remember that, it being called Sierra. He trained with most of the Spartans that would eventually form Red Team, the Chief's primary squad in most of the books by Eric Nylund. They became known as Blue Team after Fred took over when the Chief went to the Delta Halo. At that point they were last of the Spartans aside from the Spartan-III's, which they had no clue even existed yet.

@deadinchrist Red Team and Blue Team were two squads in the same company. Red Team was a swift-strike force, like a special ops team of the spartans, led by and hand-picked by the Master Chief. During the destruction of Reach all but a handful of both teams were wiped out, especially in the much larger Blue Team. In fact, almost no one from Blue Team survived except Fred. The remnants of Blue Team and Red Team banded together, forming the now officially named Blue Team.

@deadinchrist Red Team, the Chief's most trusted companions, was once much larger, composed of 7 different spartans rather than the more recent 3. Over the years several of them fell victim to the Covenant's forces, though none of their deaths have been confirmed except for one. Kurt was one of them, though his dissappearance had nothing to do with the Covenant.

Anyway, it also seems appropriate for Chief and Cortana as well.

It is surprising how many people do not follow the relationship of these two closer. In the books, he calls her a piece of equipment that he would get rid of at the first sign of trouble. As the story goes on, you can actually see him grow attached to her.

Most of it is because she is made after Dr. Halsey who was in charge of the Spartan II Project...she ended up finding out that in a way she did have feelings for John (MC, 117) so Cortana does as well. Cortana's always with him so in a way her feelings I think sort of grow from what already existed in her programming. The books are very informative of the story, if you want get "Halo: The Fall of Reach" That's right before the first game and a little into it if I remember it correctly.
