The Witch King's major objective in the battle was find and kill the leaders of free men, i.e Theoden and Aragorn, not Gandalf. The reason being because armies without leaders are useless and people without Kings would not be motivated to fight. The men of the free world would not unite under Gandalf and i am sure even without his staff Gandalf would have a trick up his sleeve, at the end of the day it was easier and more worthwhile to find and kill Theoden than a very old and powerful wizard

As the director he can do whatever he wants to the story and it becomes his. Think of it more as an alternate version of the story. If he wants to make the Witch-King blow up Gandalf's staff, that's his call to make. Weather you prefer Jackon's version or Tolkien's version is of course a matter of opinion.

The Witch King's major objective in the battle was find and kill the leaders of free men, i.e Theoden and Aragorn, not Gandalf. The reason being because armies without leaders are useless and people without Kings would not be motivated to fight. The men of the free world would not unite under Gandalf and i am sure even without his staff Gandalf would have a trick up his sleeve, at the end of the day it was easier and more worthwhile to find and kill Theoden than a very old and powerful wizard

@3heroin I really don't get this, you guys have to stop thinking of these movies as an exact-by-the-book film. It's not. This is Peter Jackson's interpretation, his version of the story. As the director he can do whatever he wants to the story and it becomes his. Think of it more as an alternate version of the story. If he wants to make the Witch-King blow up Gandalf's staff, that's his call to make. Weather you prefer Jackon's version or Tolkien's version is of course a matter of opinion.
