  • Doeas anybody know of a song that has this same kinda drum beat & drum sound & it kinda sounds like maybe it could be an Ulrich Schnauss song, but I don't know... & if you hear the song "halfway dreaming" by CFCF ti should remind you A LOT of the song I'm trying to find & it's instrumental with heavy echo/reverb on the melody & the beat stops for a while before the end & just the melody plays. Might be a girl choir voice sound. I heard it new in the last 5/6 years maybe longer ago please help!!!

  • Brilliant song! Listening to this as I write - very inspirational...

  • Thanks you Guns N' Roses for sampling this amazing song.

    Peace.

  • this track fucking rides...nothing but good...

  • BEST one Ever... I was going through some Ulrich's musics the other day and today this one was on the recomended videos. Youtube never got one so right before!

  • ... begleitet mich schon seit 2005 ... und noch immer perfekt ... !!! Dankeschön ...

  • so immersive ...

  • you'll always be in the music everything i hear it ...missusm

  • this music is so insanely significant to me

  • Love this song :D

  • This has got to be my favorite song ever.

  • very cool! sounds just like Boards of Canada - Music Is Math Amazing!

  • I saw him live, last Saturday... He is indescribable, but for sure inimitable and most innovative! His sound has an amazing clarity, that is why no matter how loud the music was, no matter how much my clothes were dancing on me from the vibration, it was pleasurable, as if I was not any more made of flesh, but consisting only of pure spirit! I am very touched by his work and would only count the days till his next live show in my place! God bless him really!

  • This is a song that reminds me of snow skiing where you start at the top of the mountain and ski down. I think it would do great as a music track for a ski video.

  • @mddg1515 and which track would remind you of snow skiing where you start at the bottom and mountain and ski up ?

  • @vizionthing lmao

  • Riad N' The Bedouins :)

  • Great track. For some reason, I keep imagining this being the music for the final scene of a epic crime thriller along the lines of Michael Mann's Heat. It would be pretty cool if Ulrich Schnauss scored a Michael Mann movie (Mann worked with Tangerine Dream on his first couple of movies),

  • @MonoAzul

MM and TD are epic as well.

Just look at Robert Leiner, he borrowed much from TD and is still one of the best.

  • @MonoAzul That's Moby at the end of Heat. Song is called "God moving over the face of the waters'

  • GREAT

  • stellar

  • FATPB has been the sound track to every single one of my shroom trips

  • Offcourse I love this track, but I also envy the guys on the cover. I would like to be on a similar place, watching the sea an listening to nice music, without any of the everyday crap on my mind.

  • So funny that the GnR song that illegally sampled this can't even be put up on youtube without a copyright claim by GnR's label.

  • just when I thought music was getting a little boring...

  • His work seems amazing, awesome, incredible. I have to download it. No, wait… I have to buy it. He deserves my money.

  • The thumb downs are coming from the Guns N' Roses die hards.

  • sometimes I sit here in the dark and listen to this magical track...

it feeds my soul with optimism and hope.

at least for a few minutes I can forget all my problems.

  • @EFFRec i feeelll this

  • @niallz Penis

  • I love ambient and/or mellow electronica like this. If you like this, and you haven't heard of Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, or also an album called "Kismet" by Aurah, or maybe also Aphex Twin (though Aphex twin is not always mellow)... then you should check those out too. I've heard other good ambient stuff, but I can't recall any other names. If anybody knows something really similar to Ulrich Schnauss, please recommend it to me.

  • @grezgorztube You may also like bands such as Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk.

There are also solo artists you may like. Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Yanni, and Mike Oldfield. All of these artists compose music almost exclusively with various keyboards and synthesizers.

You're the 3rd person today who has mentioned Boards of Canada in their comment. It looks like I'll have to check them out!

  • @grezgorztube TYCHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Are u kidding me? This is musical genious!!

  • Awesome track !!! just listen and drift away............x

  • have a same similiar as goodbye song

  • Ulrich can end any song he wants to. I'm just gonna hit Repeat again.

  • Ulrich,

Love the music. If i buy it on iTunes can i use it as background music on a friend's art website ? It would be a showcase of one of his sculptures.

  • @lynnfriedman I wouldn't count on Ulrich personally trolling YouTube forums. :)

  • You can't help but smile and bob your head to the beat to the joy of this song. Thank you Ulrich Schnauss

  • I absolutely love songs like this that just make you imagine things... It opens the mind to new worlds of ideas.

First heard this on pandora, It's totally awesome.

  • -_- ~ahhh I love how this song is so smooth and relaxing~

  • I think I'm addicted to this song

  • It´s only first effect, this effect is patented? sound of piano is patented?, Raid n'The Bedouins is other music category, the demand is stupid.

  • @sebasland My thoughts exactly. That'd be like bucket suing morello for using the whammy pedal. Its bullshit

  • Nice work!

  • amazing song. especially starting at 1:34

  • At 0:55 starts that amazing bass sample which is flirting with the high tunes all the way through the song.

  • your an idiot. of course some retarded hair metal fan isn't going to have heard of schnauss.. but its obvious he sampled the fucking song, he didnt even bother to change the eq or speed or reverse it or anything. its sampled verbaitem. go back to watching your shit metal garbage and die.

  • Wow yer dumb, it is clearly exactly the same. Big names ripping off indie electronic acts is not new. Timbaland stole a bunch of music from the demoscene website, didnt even give them liner credits.

Rock and HipHop are dead, electronic music is where its at

  • @Svperstarr

Perhaps not so much that they are dead.. but that the up and coming 'kids' of our generation are going to be using the likes of ableton, a tone of virtual synths and DSPs, instead of guitars.. which will lead to the music of the future predominately being electronica in its broadest sense..

  • stop arguing about copyright and enjoy the track :)

  • @Dominik12345678910 while you can.. i may add :)

  • I fucken love this song and most of Ulrich's. It is burned crisply into my brain forever, I just surfed perfect waves with this song in my head, playing deep and strong and I love it and makes my life good. It is an amazing ensemble of sounds. Thanks Ulrich.

  • @wavedancer17 This sounds like an excellent surfing song.

  • Dudes! Bach transcribed a multitude Vivaldi's FULL works from orchestra to organ concertos without even changing a single note. Rachmaninoff took themes of Paganini (again without changing the melody) and created his own versions. The same thing is going on with rap artists who use samples of others' pop music as their background. Yet no one says anything about that. I don't see what the big deal is here.

  • It's because most rap is mindless stupidity that doesn't sound like music.

  • Thumbs up for that. That's so right. that's why they're millionaire rappers the world over. They just say anything. They have the worst beats in the world that a child could create. Their words don't inspire. Man they get worst by the decade.

  • when rappers do it, they get sued. all the fuckign time. and the people filing the lawsuits almost always win... if he got the samples cleared. and paid for them it would be different.(rappers also, its kind of a part of beat making, so its expected. if you hadn't known gnr ripped this off, you'd be thinking, oh shit. gnr does awesome ambient intros.) gnr doesn't deserve credit for this guys work. gnr sucks.

  • i don't know...i always thought the intro to Riad N' the Bedouins was a little weird. i never thought, "oh shit. gnr does awesome ambient intros." it was more like, "what the hell is this?"

  • cut the talk and either thumbs up this track or thumbs down i definately thumbs up its a emotional rollacoaster of a song love it

  • This does not sound like the beginning of Chinese Democracy

Stop wanking about it and just enjoy the brilliance of the song

  • You know what they say about imitation and flattery...and Ulrich deserves the compliment quite frankly...

  • noo nada q ver cn la de gnr por dios q hijos de puta

  • the intro does sound a little bit the same and with the same tempo.. but it lasts just 7 seconds on Riad n bedouins and it's hardly noticeable. maybe they used the same sample library... still it's plain ridiculous to say the "song" was plagiarized.

  • This is one of my favourite songs by Ulrich. The depth is amazing....

  • There are similarities.

The question is who first made music.

    I hope GnR.

  • come one, guns n roses has playing Riad N' The Bedouins in 2001. The GNR song was written earler.

  • This song was released in 2001 by Ulrich in Europe, and he wrote it in 1998 - try again dip shit

  • GNR TOTALLY ripped this off. I can't believe they would do that. Not like he's a reasonable guy.

  • is true, the first 10 seconds are very similar, but not even part of a riff or part of the song. is very confusing, but it is not plagiarism, Guns N 'Roses does not need that.

  • It most certainly IS plagiarism. You can't rip off a full 20 seconds of someone's stuff and not pay them for it.

  • one my fave tracks. great publicity for Schnauss!

  • while these do sound very similar...they clearly are not the same, no copy paste job here. all it is is a couple of alternating notes on a synth with the volume following along a simple parametric equation......yeah with all this technology how in the world could two separate people come up with something similar?

  • but please

    are 10 damn seconds

the intro, is a part de SXF of "ambience sound"

  • For people saying Ulrich just hit a button and this sound came out, you are dead wrong. I know for a fact a lot of time and effort went into creating this music. This sound wasn't just in a MIDI bed, he crafted it. It's his own work.

For a producer on Chinese Democracy to sample this without credit is illegal, and Ulrich Schnauss will win in court.

  • holy crap i hear the resemblance. but i just think its funny that this comes up RIGHT after the satriani-coldplay case got settled. haha

  • it's a sample, not a coincidental note for note transcription on a similar synth. can't believe people have the chutzpah to back rose on this.

he passed off somebody's hard graft as his own work - uncredited.

considering how irate people get when house / techno producers sample their favorite bands people should at least be consistent.

  • dude you are so wrong there..

There have been many many many occasions of lazy producers ripping off electronic music producers.. This is just another classic example..

not saying it doesn't happen the other way either.. because it does obviously.

  • "usually".

it's what gives some rock fans a smug sense of self-worth. if i had a £ for every mate who has told me that electronic producers merely rip-off other people's work...

and house music has a history of sampling that perhaps only hip-hop can match - it's a history that goes back to it's disco roots, and is pretty undeniable.

when it's done well you end up with summat like bucketheads - the bomb, when it's done badly you end up with deep dish sampling dire straights.

  • C'mon, don't make it into a "Rock vs Electronic" debate. It has nothing to do with it.

It's about work and getting paid for it. Record companies have complaining about having their albuns stole by the internet community, but when a signed artists steal from an indie composer then its okay? Two wrongs don't make a right, dude!

  • er, i said a few comments back that if you steal someone else's work without credit or permission then you deserve all you get.

i was merely pointing out that it is usually bands complaining about lazy house producers knicking their work.

here a lazy rock artist has been caught red handed stealing original electronic music.

  • you're right ndzick718..

I shouldn't generalise. I know lots of nice and intelligent Americans... It just angers me so when I see idiots (see above) post on here when they clearly have no idea what they are talking about.. I need to get off the internet.. haha

  • plus he can't spell their either... what a joke.. i mean seriously

  • I have this as an option on my synth. I just can't believe GnR used it in their music. It is too simple to make. I should sue Ulrich for using my sample.

  • @icpillusions - Enough with the bullshit, dude... He uses mostly modular synths and vintage stuff, and some software. Ulrich is above all a sound designer and wouldn't use a preset like lazy producers.

  • Well said, eltrevoso. I'm not sure how a person can be so ignorant.

  • Wait a second - YOUR sample? Did you create the patch?

    Care to elaborate?

Ulrich is a truly inspiring producer. His work is fantastic!

  • it's obviously a direct sample used by Guns N' Roses. Can't believe people saying this isn't a big deal. If you were a struggling musician and someone who's being paid millions to record an album doesn't pay you what's due, you'd be pissed.

  • The news is that a production member gave the band some cool sound effects to use, and had claimed he had them legally, obviously not...but hey, its only the groovy intro

  • id say it was more of a sample, hes an idot for not asking for it, well he would look real dumb taking all these years and wanting to use someone elses stuff...and now he does anyway coz after all that ppl clocked on!!

  • The synth sounds similar, that makes it plagarism? Wow, I've seen much bigger rip offs then this that have been let to slide.

  • I Agree With Scottamass. It honsestly all programming, soemthing is always going to show up in someone elses song, theres no way to avoid it.

  • i don't know why they're flipping out about this...it's such a small part of riad n' the bedouins, and it's not like it made the song any better. personally, i'd like the song better without the intro, or at least a shorter one.

  • I agree but shorter is better, like when the guitar starts fading in, i went and edited the intro out and it sounds very weird with axl's screeching coming straight at you :P

  • HAHaha I thought it was a melody or riff what was going to sound similar, wtf so now every synth intro around will be a plagiarism!!

  • I cant wait till the time comes where you'd be able to sue someone for having the same not in a song.

  • thanks to Axl, now I found a cool song

  • WOW THIS IS exact Axl is SUCH A FAG

  • it's all keyboard generated sounds.... should yamaha or korg or whatever keyboard manufacturer sue everybody who uses there programed sound.... it's rediculous

  • I understand where you are coming from, but I have to believe that Schnauss' label would have contacted him to confirm the sounds he used in his songs are not just some synth factory presets, a loop from a sample library or a built in loop from some popular DAW that GnR may have also used. It's very likely that both have access to the exact same synth or software in the studio.

  • true, good call

  • Sounds similar but its not the same, theres more going on in this as opposed to the Rhaid intro that they're claiming. As far as I'm aware of, you can only copywrite the lyrics and melody and a "coincidental" sound effect is neither one or the other. But if the courts favor Ulrich, I wouldnt be shocked because "Chinese Democracy" was problematic from the start.

  • Come on, what's 20 seconds? Big fucking deal.

  • i'd have to laugh if riad was actually the song being copied from...it is pretty old, but i guess the cool intro isn't

  • holy fuck...

  • Okay, this sounds pretty exact, I'm not gonna lie.

  • yeah. but axl coulded save this sue, of those unnecessary 35 seconds of Rhiad, really the song "Rhiad" is great but the intro is boring.

  • yeah the intro is the same, maybe the composer of the song didnt tell axl about that.

  • To all the people saying its a coincidence...seriously? Identical to the note is a coincidence?

  • It doesn't even sound like GNR

  • the intro of rhiad

  • As a big GN'R fan, i'll admit the intro of this and Riad is the exact same

  • I listened to the intro and yeah you're right, it is the same

  • What a joke (not the song) the lawsuit..... all that is, is a synth on a computer, please that dude aint getting a million anything from the GNR Crew.... like the song though

  • Tee-hee, Guns n Roses stole the first 15 seconds of this songs. Just do a search on "Riad N the Bedouins" and you'll hear what I'm talking about :)

  • ha agreed

  • GNR are actually getting sued for this aswell

  • Yep, you're absolutely right. But they're suing people who aren't even in the band...Which is stupid.

  • exactly, it should be the band as a whole not individual members

  • LOVING IT SO MUCH!!!!

  • Love it, one of the best from Ulrich. 5 star song!

  • nice n calm just the way i like it ;)

  • incredible music.. best track

  • Nice one 13086 :D Be sure to check out his Suddenly the Trees Are Giving - one of my faves!

Just thought, this would've been a good track for GTA IV's ambient Journey radio station. Loved to have flown over Liberty in a heli at sunset with this on the speakers!

  • Yeah, not bad either though I like also his somewhat faster tracks like "A Million Miles away".

If you like something slow & phat, check out "Sand" by Max Melvin -- an incredibly relaxing piece of music!

  • Someone recommended this guy from a BoC post - cheers! Can't stop playin this.

    Youtube 1st for music anyday!

  • *Hi5* -- that's also how I've come across Ulrich Schnauss ;)

  • In fact its his best track.

  • Well, Molfsee & esp. Knuddelmaus aren't bad either but this track has been the reason to buy the album ;)

  • Really a great track, simple, light, yet powerful. I discovered US by instance when someone on YT compared him to BoC but this track sounds quite differently, like of Mix of Jean-Michel Jarre & Max Melvin -- just great :)

  • superb.

  • freshh banging beats ...

  • i love gnr too!

  • fuckin dope, excuse my french...

  • One of my all time favourites! Excelent track and artist!

  • one of my all time favourites too, just don't ask me why i do not know and i don't think i want to really find out!!

  • I think that there are some tracks like this one, that although you hear them for the first time, its like they remind you places and people. Just as if you had heard them back then :)

  • This is a great sound....

  • i also wanted to upload this. makes me feel so strange, brings up a lot of sweet memories... a miracle. thank you :)
