Thank you for the comment. The dances of this kind are called "shishi-mai." "Shishi" is an imaginary creature based on the lion (while "mai" denotes a dance). The headgear worn by the three dancers represents the head of the shishi. So, three dancers disguise themselves as shishis. In my translation, I simply use the word lion for shishi, although they don't resemble lions at all. I add the link to my blog post that gives some explanation to this kind of dance.
