@1959child Mainstream heap of shite? All musicians evolve to what they want their sound to be. Why would you concentrate on the music from them that you dislike instead of enjoying the great songs that have been recorded?
@shariotoflove NEVER HEAR FROM ANYMORE? He's 64 years old with a career that goes back to the first Woodstock! I love it when shallow people think that their opinions are the standard that we all should adhere to! Go back and rehash your old classic rock and stay in the little pigeon hole of music that you hold so dear! I LOVE ALL MUSIC!
@Olson3529 woah, stop frothing at the mouth and listen! no one is doubting the immenseness of Santana and the likes. BUT its a fact that any band that started out underground or was not mainstream, initially, always eventually burn out when they decide to go mainstream. Regarding mainstream, i mean altering the music to one that is more 'radio friendly' and kinda generic. Bands that where meant to be mainstream from the off also succeed in their own right, and make some great music as well.
I saw Santana in concert three times in 1979, 1980, & 1981 at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates Illinois. Aside from being a phenemonela guitarist, Carlos Santana is also a tremendous percussionist!! At all three concerts, Carlos got in on the drum solo with Graham Lear and did a fantastic drum solo!!
I could've sworn this song was used in 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' during the scene where Spicoli(Sean Penn) and Forrest Whitakers little bro were beating the sh*t out of his brand new Camaro Z28. I like thinking of that movie when I hear this song, haha!
@ZunZaraVoMu This is Alex Ligertwood, who was lead vocalist for Santana, after Gregg Rolie left to form Journey, with Neal Schon. My fave from this time is 'All I Ever Wanted' Up-tempo rocker :D
That's the point though, shredding is nowhere near as interesting as carefully chosen notes, people just go crazy without breaks which leads to it being tedious to listen to.
Man some of this guitar work here is comparable to Jimi Hendrix.. And that's same alot coming from a guy who believes Jimi Hendrix is the best ever, bar none!
@boxingin many won't agree with me in this, but jimi hendrix (and slash) is way overrated. Listen to metal and you will be subject to some true guitar gods. Take Jeff Loomis for example. Would shred over jimi any day.
@Headlandhunter That's the point though, shredding is nowhere near as interesting as carefully chosen notes, people just go crazy without breaks which leads to it being tedious to listen to.

@Olson3529 evolving into mainstream can be a very bad move. that's why you never hear of Santana any more. go figure.

The strange thing about this song is that I don't hear any timbales or congas anywhere. I guess they were trying something different for once.
