@Olson3529 woah, stop frothing at the mouth and listen! no one is doubting the immenseness of Santana and the likes. BUT its a fact that any band that started out underground or was not mainstream, initially, always eventually burn out when they decide to go mainstream. Regarding mainstream, i mean altering the music to one that is more 'radio friendly' and kinda generic. Bands that where meant to be mainstream from the off also succeed in their own right, and make some great music as well.

I saw Santana in concert three times in 1979, 1980, & 1981 at Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates Illinois. Aside from being a phenemonela guitarist, Carlos Santana is also a tremendous percussionist!! At all three concerts, Carlos got in on the drum solo with Graham Lear and did a fantastic drum solo!!

@boxingin many won't agree with me in this, but jimi hendrix (and slash) is way overrated. Listen to metal and you will be subject to some true guitar gods. Take Jeff Loomis for example. Would shred over jimi any day.
