And the campaign (single player) is from the year 1700-1799, but you can go past 1799. The technology available in the game stretches out to about 1814.

I think you should be able to cede small bits of land to people, change borders and such. also, the psychology of the leaders should be better determined, the computer should take into account what the interests of a leader of that particular nation are. instead of say, a situation where the ottomans

Question for the poster, or anyone with the answer; what is the advantage of placing your linemen in a column when marching them?

I also read somewhere to use a bayonet charge in column formation. I can see the advantages in closing to melee like that, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight into this?

Yes I can understand were your coming from here. As far as I know there is actually no advantage to marching in a column on Empire Total War because it does not seem to affect anything in the speed or command of your troops. My best guess is Prince uses this formation in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte because he used this formation to march his troops because it was easier to move and command them in this formation on the battlefield. So my best guess is Prince does this in honor of the Napoleon.

It is because marching in a column means that being fired at per volley it kills far less people and also hid the less experienced conscripts of Napoleon

Eitherway, holding your position is not always a bad idea, especially if you have favorable terrain. This has been proven many times through history (and in the game)

i think the tw games should elaborate MUCH further on the battle psychology of the men. it would make routs happen at much more realistic moments, and real tactics much more usable. also, i think that the campaign game should incorporate less actual taking of things [forts, cities, improvements, etc.] and focus more on troop movements. perhaps the province system should be done away with too--->

not really because its a cpu heavy game, if u have a quad core at 2 ghz it runs the game on high if u have a duo core at 2 ghz run it a meduim settings but if u have anything above 2.5 ghz it runs really high

dude there are many reasons why they still used formations in that period, for example they could form a wall of bayonets for melee charges and defences, they could fire volleys which are more effective than loose shooting, they had just come out of a time period where formations were widely used, and so on but yes the irregulars are pretty cool, sorry to go all factual or whatever :)

Sure, but if you REALLY want to run ETW on max setting you will need a better graphix card and about 1GB more ram (isnt that big of a deal though)

This may just be a baseless analysis, but quite frankly, you seem to have gotten a lot better than in your videos from a few months ago. Or perhaps it just varies from battle to battle.

Either way, I noticed in one battle (which you also won) on the Algeria map, you and your enemy both used quite basic tactics.

In this one, you commanded your troops masterfully-- very well executed flanking maneuver, despite the enemy cavalry charge.
