I've been twitching the same EXACT way! I've been recommended to see a neurologist by a doctor. I don't twitch all through the night. I get peaceful sleep. My twitches don't hurt. It is a good idea to find a way to keep pressure on that one spot throughout the day. I began twitching out of nowhere a few months ago. It started as small twitches then it grew into large twitching. I've maintained good health throughout my life. Please contact me if you wish.
hi, this is Katie's older sister again. Sorry its taken so long so a response to anybody, but our dad ran this account and was killed in an accident last year. An update on Katie, the twitching has stopped, although she is getting migraines that do limit her a lot.
She has been seen by the Mayo Clinic and multiple neurologists in Omaha and Lincoln. I'm sorry to say, but this was real, and we were desperate for answers. Thank you all for your advice and warm wishes.
@seekjesus1st that's the sad part. They never actually figured it out. Ultimately the twitching just stopped. I believe that the official diagnosis was a unknown neuromuscular disorder, but I might be wrong about that. Instead she gets horrible migraines that disable her for days.
With the advancements in medical science, it should be possible to remove/correct the nerve/muscle causing it. If the stimulus is coming from the brain and can't be corrected, then as a fix-when-needed measure, it's possible to put a small ball, smaller than a pingpong ball, on an elastic strap on her back. She can turn it inwards so as it pushes the spot when the twitching starts. You've probably tried something like that already, but if not .....

Hello. Yes, to whereisthekarma statements. The twitching can be caused by Lyme disease. I used to have it on the left side of my face, but it has gone with treatment for the Lyme.
I am also positive for Babesia, another tick-borne disease, that you can catch at the same time as the Lyme. I would periodically get the red dots on my body. I am undergoing treatment for it now. Be forewarned, do some research. The tests can be unreliable!
Has she ever been tested for any tick borned infections? Lyme can make you twitch, and Babesia will give you a rash with red dots? Most drs are very ignorant about tick infections. Please seek out a specialist. If you need help doing this please contact me at wheresthekarma@yahoo.com.
i get twitches like that but i dont jerk, i know what she is feeling. Can you message me about this because im the same way and i dont know what to do anymore.
Is it curable? ... i mean, she can get rid of it if she has something stuck on that muscle... although, i don't think she would be able to move her arm :S
Try medical marijuana. I know, when you see the words you go YEAH RIGHT. I've seen people with a similar problem who had MS and as soon as they started smoking, the twitches and ticks just stopped. If you can't get medical marijuana, I'm sure someone knows where to get some so just try it. It CANNOT hurt. It is 1000x less damaging than tobacco and alcohol combined and there have been 0 deaths recorded from solely smoking marijuana. Ever. If you want more information, look up the movie The Union
Agree with the Lyme idea. Did you have a Western Blot test done? Lyme disease is funny sometimes it doesn't show up. Second third and fourth opinions. Doctors will often tell you it's nothing when they can't figure it out.
Also, how is her fluid intake? Have her drink a couple extra glasses of water a day. I'm sure she's not dehydrated but you'd be surprised what too little fluid can do to your muscles. Good luck. I'll say some prayers for relief for your whole family, especially Kate.
@RKovecses how can you be so sure? i mean if it was as easy as looking at a video im sure the Doctors that did all the blood tests / scans / etc would have seen it right away, there would have been no need for those tests or this video if it was that simple.
Really hope the Doctors find out whats wrong, hate to see how upset she is.
may I suggest something for quick fix? what if you get a patch/sticky tape or something, stick plastic fingers/or a small ball onto that patch/sticky tape, and stick it on her back? It's not a long term solution but it may provide temporary relief...I really hope you will get well :(
i have a twin brother, his name is joshua and he has autism. i have seen my brother do this SO many times! i think it is the autism, but we don't actually know. :(
My girlfriend has something that looks very similar to this. She has had it since January and all the tests from the doctors come back negative. They see it as nothing wrong and suggest its psychological, but she has no idea why it would be as she has no problems or anything. It is really getting to her after these months. She is able to control it enough to keep it away, but once it starts she cant stop it again until it calms down.
I find it interesting that if you apply pressure to certain spots the twitching stops it must be a nerve signal problem telling her muscles to contract when they shouldnt be.. or some sort of muscle condition, had she seen a rheumatologist yet? might be a good idea..I do hope you feel better hun, that must be awful to live like that..I will pray for you..
I think she has ADHD maybe.... , i have it and i get twitchy too but i never get it that bad. How is she now ? Also if she ever got hit on the head as a kid or any time during her life, it could possibly affect her too. I wish her well !!!!!!!!! <3
More: Consider epilepsy, or some other movement disorder. Ask about EEG, and EMG. The mood changes and irritability can be from lack of good sleep. Hang in there and get pushy if you have to with the doctors to get them to find out what's going on. Good luck to you, and let us know what's happening.
I would definitely go see a neurologist. I don't know what would cause this and the red dots on the hands, or whether they are related. The first thing to do is start a log of what she has had food, beverage and medication wise. You may have to rely more on memory as to what she's had within the previous 24 hrs of an episode starting. Look for patterns - stuff she's had prior to an episode happening that happens more than a few times. More next post
did the twitching start small when all of this started? How long has the twitching been going on ? I am 23 and I have been twitching all over my body 24/7 for 6 months. It's not as bad as yours where it jerks my body but it is localized all over my body. I am worried its getting worse, did your twitching progress from subtle to severe after the last coupleof months?
I agree with some of the previous posters recommending magnesium supplementation. However there are other things to be considered, such as her medical history. My 1st question would be, does she have any history of drug use? Even short term marijuana use has links to anxiety disorders which could lead to symptoms parallel to hers. My next questions are whether or not she has ever been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder? has she ever taken any medications to treat it? good luck plz update
I too have suffered from the same ailment, on my left shoulder. I've been close to being diagnosed with Dystonia; HOWEVER, I requested to seek alternative treatments before an "official" diagnosis be made. I refused all Meds. I am a twitch in my cheek muscles and this is the treatment I am receiving as there is no underlying cause to it.
The muscle that stops the twitch is part of a muscle group called the trapezoid. Is there a possibility that she tore the muscle at one point? It could also be caused by problem with some vertebra in the area around the 'x's.
Have you seen an accupunctuist or chiropractor?
Seriously...I doubt that it isn't anything some good holistic therapy wouldn't cure.
I saw a thing on the TV once where women in Africa had a similar condition because of something that had gotten into the drinking water. They twitched EXACTLY like this.
