  • Sounds like a diesel version of the Jeep/AMC 4.0L engine.

  • I used to have one of these in my 84 B reg Ninety, I retained the LT77 g'box which handled it perfectly well. The engine was totally reliable, good starter, evan on the coldest of mornings. Later on I fitted a turbo from a 220 4 cylinder Bedford engine, again the 247 was 100% reliable and pulled far better. Land rover should have fitted this engine instead of the naturally asthmatic non turbo engine. I commend you on fine choice of "power" unit.

  • @eightlegger Thanks. It beat all my expectation's. Fuel economy is no different if driven reasonably carefully (don't have to have my foot flat on the floor to get anywhere) and it sounds mental!

  • @dealbeach Great conversion. I put a perkins Phaser in my 110 and never looked back. Wish I had put a "6" in though, if only for the noise. I gather from the other video you are on a series box and overdrive. How's it coping?

  • @24765968 The Series gearbox seems fine. They can take quite a bit more than people think, although with an engine that has a lot of torque like mine, it's wise to be a bit careful! One day I would like to install an LT85/95 though. We'll see.

  • @dealbeach The LT 85 is the way to go. Get the earlier one peice casing model.Known as the "heavy duty" LT85. If you do get one get the casing bored out to put a 92mm x 45mm bearing in the back (11 ball race). The original 7 ball race bearing wont last for more than 30,000 miles. I put a new set of 1:1.003 high range gears in my LT230 and running on 750's it will do just under 90mph.

  • Great stuff man, is the transmission hooked up yet? How does she pull? Those Perkins 6's actually look a snug fit in a Landy once they're in!

  • @eradeziel All done. It pulls about the same as a 200/300 TDi. Sounds better though!!

  • @dealbeach

dont these have 50% more torque than a 200tdi?

I heard they r hard on halfshafts.

  • @tpvalley You're right. I have the strongest axles fitted to a series Land Rover, but even so, I'm going to drive it with a bit of respect. The half-shafts, I believe, are almost a designed weak link. They will snap before doing any other damage - one hopes!! If one breaks, I'll let you know.
