I love how the guy who plays the captain of the turkish airways flight and also the bomber in the episode about the philippiene airlines 434 when he says in the captains seat of the turkish jet pulling back hard on the wheel the raise the nose while remainig calm and then blurts out "Looks like we're going to hit the ground." @clap4makkapakka123 Gimli USED to be an air base but had been closed. If you look at the episode you will see that he didn't have much choice as to where to land. The runway had been converted to a drag strip with a whole club in attendance on the day of the landing. It was a good thing though. The club had an ample supply of fire extinguishers which were used to fight the small fire in the front wheel well and saved the plane.

Obviously you are not aware of the B737 issues in the 1990s - how Boeing essentially denied that anything was ever wrong wiht the 737- until someone finally proved it. In fact, after UA585 (Mar 1991), Boeing found a key fact (crossover speed) that they basically hid- and had the crew of US427 (Sept 1994) been aware of it, they could have saved the plane.

I love the B757 and B767, but be fair in what you say. And the Airbus? Do you know about AA587? If not, see Airbus's role there.

The DC-9 Series 8x (80, 83, 88) is one of the safest aircraft around. The DC-10, after the grounding in 1979, was fixed, and is a very safe plane.

Look at the Boeing 747 cargo door - it's a problem that Boeing never fixed either (see UA 811).

That is NOT an excuse for the preventable tragedy that was Turkish 981 at all - they clearly rushed the airplane into service with known issues - the cargo door problem was seen in 1969 during tests in the Long Beach factory.
