  • GIVE US A MIRASOL KINDLE ALREADY COME ON!!!! ITS ALMOST 2012 NOW, HOW MUCH LONGER DO WE HAVE TO WAIT???? I HATE LCD AND E-INK I CAN'T STAND THEM ANY MORE FOR READING BOOKS.

  • Well, to be fair to print, text comes at 600 to 1200 dpi on digital devices, as for offset-printed magazines it's roughly 1200 to 2400 dpi, so still nowhere even near. Then again first laser printers were about 240 dpi. But watching the video it's still looking good. Thanks for the 1080p m(-__- )m

This thing ought to hit the market soon in a nice inexpensive tablet.

  • Where is it? Qualcomm!!!

  • Looks like a great update over e-ink displays and power saving and allows for video.

  • i actually saw how they make these and how they work. pretty amazing stuff!

  • Awesome.

  • hey its marshall from how i met yo mama

  • great. but i'm disappointed that they could only achieve 240ppi. if they had hit 350ppi we wouldn't have to worry about this at least for some time.

  • yellow cast... lol this dude wasnt informed that the ambient light affects the display since its actually the only kind of reflection you get out of the devide - IT IS NO-BACKLIGHT TECHNOLOGY SIR, just like e-ink and others... That's the whole point of this low-power technology. They actually add micro mirrors to each pixel or sumthin

  • lmao...hopefully we'll be seeing this in devices in the second half of the year" another world changing tech (better and cheaper) that will never see the light of day. Drool and move on...

  • Can it be back lit when it's dark inside?

  • @mrchen1211 It's front lit, so would probably use LEDs around the screen in commercial application. This works better for power consumption.

  • beautiful!

  • that's small tho. I want like a nook kinda size color display...

  • Great device!

  • Hi Tech Gadgets are HOT like TWITTA! =D

  • What's almost even more important than colour is the response time: A device that can replay videos can also be used as a device for writing programs and such. E-ink devices are much too sluggish for that and they only generate complete pages.

    Very interesting.

  • There are several more display technologies which are comparable to Mirasol:

    watch?v=T9v0ldjlvHE

A reflective display from Liquavista based on electrowetting technology. Like Mirasol without backlight.

    watch?v=oawX3wenxNc

A special reflective LCD from Pixel Qi which is black and white in the sun. If you turn on the backlight (in shady environment), it becomes colored.

  • Wrong. They also update parts for quite some time. and with sony's latest readers (prs 600, 900) you can even draw stuff using stylus.

  • @Kartu2 That's really good news!

  • @eFloodwater

Well, I own Sony PRS 505 (no touchscreen) and Sony PRS 600 (touchscreen) and I HATE the latter. Touchscreen layer reflects a lot and also lowers contrast considerably. :(

  • Comment removed

  • Theres something so hot about stabbing myself in tne thighs with a toothpick

  • It's 6 times as efficient as E-Ink, with full-motion and full color? Holy shitake mushrooms.

The second they add multi-touch support to a Mirasol E-Reader, I'll be one of the first in line to buy one.

    -IMP ;) :)

  • unfortunately most of the reflective LCD displays are incompatible with most of the touchscreen technology, due to the strict requirements for maximizing reflectiveness

so don't count on touchscreen (though I don't know what all the solutions are)

    still, nice potential

  • @omgLordLituslol the display can be paired with a touchscreen, just the type of touch screen that abosrbs <10% of light, of which there are many solutions to right now.

  • I don't think multitouch can be made with one of those solutions, but I'm out of my element here a little

  • Read about Sony PRS-600 - the e-reader on which there is hard to read anything (dark and with reflections). Reason? Touchscreen. The only touchscreen I know that works great on reflective screens is Wacom with stylus (like in Onyx Boox 60).

  • WOW!

    A MODERN OLD NEWSPAPER!

  • yellowish like old newspaper

  • next to the wireless charging, definatly the best of CES 2010

  • @Batch1211 Wireless charging is old. The technology is so simple. Anyone could have thought of using a Wifi AP to provide the energy. Thats the only real new thing about this. Using the wifi waves.. Using radio waves is as old as WWi when people used to make crystal radio recivers. Same princip really.

  • Don't get fooled by the yellow cast in the video. The white balance setting on the videocam may be off, and our eyes are generally much better than any cam at coping with colour cast variations.

  • All the pictures I have seen of this thing have that yellow tint, AND the guy in the video even mentions that it has a yellow tint.

  • awesome@!!!!!!

  • nah, id stick to the e-ink for reading

  • HOLY DAMN

  • The best of CES 2010.

  • I'd rather read my books off of this than e-ink

  • Nice.
