i think its funny that still to this day the majority of cross platform titles typically look better on 360 despite all of sonys nonsensical boasting....either way....i hope the finished product looks like this...ive been wanting to play crysis for sooooooo damn long.
The games actually does run like that, I have a powerfull PC, and it looks very similar.. You get used to it after a while. It is awesome though. Im wondering where soem of the scenery in that video was from. The forest level looked amazing, is this a new game we can expect!?! Was watching a grraphics demonstration of Halo Reach. It looks very similar too, the graphics look just as good as the videos here.
IDK, we'll have to wait and see when the PC version is released. I'd be suprised if shaders were on high though. consoles don't have system RAM, shaders swap out of memory A LOT.
Well umm for the ps3 there are no problems running crysis except for the fact it runs the old directx 9...maybe they did some tunning with the settings for the consoles?
but for xbox i dunno how a machine that old could do it?
It's easier to program for Xbox than for PS3. PS3 isn't more powerful, and both machines run DX9. Xbox has 6 instruction threads on the CPU, PS3 has ONE! Both have GPU's that are so close mentioning the difference is pointless. I'd post a link here but I can't. Search for PS3 Anandtech.
Yeah but from what i know the technology inside is a lot newer, and it has 8 cell proccessors, gta 4 always loaded faster on ps3 lol (i used to have a 360 kept breaking for me then i got a full refund when i contacted microsoft) and the parts inside like the video card is a lot newer (i think nvida something) and its usually easier to create a game to run on 360 due to it being a dvd compared to being blue ray...but a dvd doesen't have as much space as a blue ray disk this can cause..
disadvantaged like for example metal gear solid 4 coulden't run on 360 because the common disc didn't have enought room to store it. but i think that just because technology is moving forward that the parts of a console are becomming better then before. there was a 2 year difference between the two consoles and since the 360 had an early release it has plenty of technical issues like over heating...and many other problems. eg red ring can be from multiple problems many people are facing.
and im not saying ps3 is perfect it has issues too but i haven't had one problem with my ps3 which now i had longer then the 360 so i dunno what to say about this...
and im gonna stop typing now i think i typed too much lol
There was a 1 year difference between consoles. Metal Gear could easily fit on a DVD disk, all you have to do is compress the image files and audio files better/more. They artificially increased the size of that game to make it seem like blu-ray in the PS3 was necessary. (In all likelyhood) Microsoft is a software company, not hardware, their still learning, hopefully they learned from screwing up the reliability of their console, but at least they came through with the best warranty in the...
Industry. Look up your facts before listing them, and go read that article on anandtech, if you have any interest at all in learning how the PS3 works. Just so were clear, both consoles are awesome, If I didnt' get my 360 for free I wouldn't even have it. The PS3 slim looks really cool, and a 120GB hard drive, with blu ray for that console at 300 bucks is totally fair. Xbox has more games, some say better, sony has some pretty epic games going for it though too. I just dont have much spare time
Ps3 Loading that game faster is due to two main reason. 1. ALL PS3's have a built in hard drives. 2. It's a 3.5" hard drive, not a 2.5" like xbox. because every xbox doesn't have a hard drive, game programmers can't cache game data on the hard drive, which increases load times. (That's why Xbox's are so loud, the DVD Drive is ALWAYS spinning MAX speed to help compensate for this.) Also 3.5" HDD's run faster than 2.5" HDD's. (Hard drive disk).
the parts are basically the same age, PS3 took longer to get out due to the unorthodox nature of their IBM Cell Processor, and due to the premature state of blue ray at the time. (Xbox has an ATI graphics card in it. Nvidia and Microsoft had issues with the first xbox) There's no question that PS3 is more reliable than Xbox 360, however if you get a new 360, Manufactured after January 2009, it should be just as reliable as any other console, if not more due to the BEST warranty around.
The PS3 being more difficult to program for has NOTHING AT ALL to do with Blu-ray. IT's just a storage format. The reason it's harder to program for is because of the unorthodox, and almost EXCLUSIVELY Sony design of the CPU. (That type of CPU has been tried before and it failed before) The Cell procesor doesn't have 8 cell processors, it has one "main" CPU then either dozens or hundreds of little mini "crippled" CPU's. These little cpu's literally can't handle anything harder than 2+3=5.......
this isn't a terrible design, and that CPU has LOTS of potential. It's just programmers aren't used to programming that way. The Xbox360 has 3 "Full" cores and each core is multithreaded. So each of the 3 "Full" cores can work on 2 "full" data streams at once. That's how desktop CPU's work too; therefor programmers are used to programming that way. P.S. It's TOTALLY unnecessary to have 50GB or storage on Blue ray, game don't NEED to be over 8.5GB, at least not in DX9; not even fallout 3 was
Well, like I said in the side-bar. They had to make some technological breakthroughs just to make the game run on consoles. Consoles have Video RAM but they don't have ANY system RAM; makes it hard to program for. I think it looks incredibly good considering the limited hardware power they have to work with. However I expect the PC version, maxed out, to look noticeably better; unless they cripple the pc version cause of the consoles... I really hope they don't do that.
