I like this one a lot. Once you get a deep grip, it works like a charm.
One more remark on this: You have fix his arm close to your body or better even to your chest. Otherwise he's gonna post it and the sweep is not gonna work.
grab his right arm and throw it across your body. put his right hand up next to his left ear. grab his hand by wrapping ur left hand over his neck. pull his arm while lifting his left leg with your right hand and then you have him in a mount and it is easy to do a move called "thread the needle". for this move you keep your left hand holding his right arm. then you put your right arm through the whole inbetween his arm and his neck. put pressure down on his chest with your right elbow.
how about getting an overhook with your left arm (on his right) and then diving your right arm under his leg? that way he can't post at all AND it's a really tight way of holding him. it basicaly forces his shoulders closer to his knees, which means he'll roll more easily. that's how i do it anway, and it works the vast majority of the time
Interesting. I've found that if I try to sweep my opponent more toward my sweeping leg, that they can post out. Which makes sense because it is easy to do a push-up with your arms out wide. However if I take their weight over their head then even if they post they get swept- which also makes sense bc it's almost impossible to do a pushup with your hand up above your head. Maybe that's the key, the direction of the momentum and where you're directing their weight.
You know what man. You're doing your best to explain these techniques and doing a damn fine job. If these guys wanna say what if this? What if that? forget them.
No technique is impossible to counter. I think that you look technically proficient and I like the idea of combinations.
I fought as a junior in Judo tournaments in South America and I am just getting to senior competition here.
Combinations are essential in high level competition.
I like to hit this and most of the guys kick their leg out then I transition to open guard and if they're too slow it's an easy scissor sweep from there.
its a good basic sweep. However, i was taught a little differently. I was told to control the arm, not the head on that first sweep. Whats to keep him from basing out with his right arm?
The moving body weight of his + yours. and IF he is able to do a one-armed push up of both your body weights, just overhook the arm and it's neutralized.
hey technique ive been doing some mma training but where i live theirs no bjj gyms or anything really just wrestling and i suck at it but your vids have helped me so thanks but do you have any vids on moves that would be effective on aggressive fast paced wrestlers or is there no specific moves for that
This isn't the Roleta/Helicopter Sweep. this is most commonly known as the flower sweep, and it has a lot of other names, but the Helicopter/Roleta Sweep is a different animal that is done when one leg is trapped under the opponent.
Also i understand that you show to grab the head here because it can set up other attacks, but you CAN NOT actually sweep like that outside of a weak Novice Division. You have to control the arm and get a more exxagerated angle to make the sweep itself work.
Well I certainly disagree with your statement, and would remind you that this is for MMA, not BJJ. Thanks for watching and I hope that you'll join the site.
Then you go to the next sweep in that sweep chain, which is the Elevator Sweep. Check out our Guard Sweep Chain videos where we explain how to continue the chain if your opponent counters.
probably one of the best sweeps from guard if you set it up right.... I use a few of them in my vids on my page.... great tech. I usually shut down his post in the direction you are gonna go by grabbing his wrist... we call this a Flower sweep or a windmill sweep in my school....
Big Nog used this sweep in his fight vs. Tim Sylvia. He actually performed it from half guard, but the exact same sweep. From there he mounted Tim, later taking his back and finishing the fight via RNC. This technique does create some vulnerabilities, but is definitely applicable to MMA.
Thanks for your post, and please check out the site.
This is one of the best sweeps I have come across. I train in Japan with experienced players and do not have a problem executing this...it always surprises them.

Not bad, but do you see him using arm to post since you arent controlling it like most people teach with this sweep. Like the way you transition from the scissor to this one tho.
Excellent question... If you work this one a couple of times, you'll find that there is entirely too much momentum for your partner to post with an arm. In fact, if he were to try to post too hard, he stands a great chance at hyper-extending his own elbow. Also, with your leg swinging like that, a lot of times you would actually kick his arm out of the way. But if he were able to post, simply transition into the elevator sweep.
Thanks for your interest, and please visit the site.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree, its defenitly better to control the arm from the start. I noticed in the second time you did the sweep you had to push his arm away to get the sweep done. The combination with scissor sweep is perfect by the way.
Your disagreement is welcome. In fact, you will hear me mention NUMEROUS times throughout all of my explanations to find what works for you. Furthermore, if he does superman the arm- you will be able to attack directly with leg locks. I just can't film EVERY variation of EVERY technique. However, I really do appreciate your input, and look forward to having you at the site. Thank you.

is this like the 10th planet Jiu-jitsu?
just wondering.
