i found out why she said that to the scarecrow-- i was a dork and i watched the commentary-- it was originally written that Hunk and Dorothy were going to have a romantic relationship. If you watch the extended cut of "If I only had a brain" there's a line that goes "i would be worthy of ya...if i only had a brain" but it was written out of the script and the Kansas scenes of the movie were the last things filmed. Trust me she's not playing favorites.

I guess in the original script, the role of the Scarecrow was intended for a younger actor, but when they cast this guy (forgot his name, sorry), they realized it wasn't going to work. Before I read that comment, I just always assumed it's because he was the first friend she met and was with her the longest.
