  • This video is just WONDE$RFUL. I loooove medical equipment. I'm a person who loves this wonderful stuff. I have severe health issues and am vent depe3ndant, and have other machines. I loooove anesthesia equipment the most. does this manikin have BIS monitoring? BIS is very important during anesthesia, HOWEVER MUST NOT be 100% relied upon.

  • @ventilator98 We cover all aspects of monitoring, including using BIS. I agree with you that you can't just rely on one monitor to determine what's going on with the patient. You have to look at ALL the monitors. Since BIS is a brain monitor and the mannequin doesn't really have a brain, it's difficult to show changes in his brain waveforms during simulation

  • @GoldfarbNursing I looooooooove this stuff. I have a desperate question. I know you are VERY VERY busy. I have severe health issues, and in fact due to all of this, I looooooove this wonderful stuff. I am a vent dependant patient, and have a question. Today or tomorrow, could you do me a favor? If you could do a vid of you inducing the simulated patient on like sevo and show me how to control ur vent U dont know how happy Id be. PLEEEEASE? I would be so happy.

  • @ventilator98 ... But I do have a scenario where I discuss changes in EEG waveforms. I use a power point to show EEG changes that demonstrate hypoxia. The students need to look at all aspects of the patient, not just the BIS monitor. - Dr. Bernadette Henrichs

  • You are my idol!

  • Its getting tougher and tougher. I don't know how I am going to retain all this info in school!

  • I am currently an undergrad working towards becoming a CRNA. It's so amazing how they have such an excellent, exciting job. They do not spend their whole life in school compared to doctors but yet they make a really nice salary. Many people look down on CRNA's, especially anesthesiologists. I agree that they do not have the same amount of education but they are both very great at what they do. I can't wait to start working as a CRNA!

  • CRNA =/= Anesthesiologist

they do not do the same job, they DO NOT have equal of training or knowledge and are unsafe for patients

  • this sounds kind of dumb but if a CRNA does pretty much everything that an Anesthestiologiest does then what is the real difference between the two besides one is more money and twice the schooling? thanks just curious

  • Hey. I have a question. Do u use the Fabius GS in this OR?? What brand is ur anesthesia machine?

  • Amazing technology now and days! I would love to become a CRNA, because I find surgery very interesting. Awesome video!

  • I notice that CRNA's make great salaries. All correctness aside, I honestly wonder how often people choose this career primarily for the salary involved? I know I would love to work in the OR assisting in the surgical orchestration, but I must be honest in admitting that while I might not have an explicit 'passion' to be an anesthetist, it seems interesting and the salary is a big motivating factor for me. Is this an acceptable motivation or am I being greedy? Thanks, Godfarb! I accept PMs too.

  • @jgizzy ha, you're not greedy, honestly the pay is very motivating to me too. As long as you are not only in it for the money, you also care about the field of work then its all good. But yeah the nice pay is motivating because who wants to live paycheck to paycheck? you gotta have some fun in life and i tell you what, not going out and having fun with family because of financial situations is not fun at all.

  • i am also in nursing school currently and i am interested in anesthesia, my question is what would cause the patient not to wake up and if so what is the risk?

  • I am really very interested in becoming a CRNA. however, im from the Philippines and my economic condition and the situation i am in puts me in a sorry state of just dreaming and not seeing my dreams get realized someday...

  • What happens if the patient wakes in the middle of the surgery or procedure? What does the Dummy do? Also do you use different Dummy for more advanced procedures?

I am asking because I am very interested in Anesthesia, even though I am only a Nursing student right now

  • @i3loodhunte31181

In rare cases, a patient can wake up during surgery. If that happens, the CRNA will give more anesthesia to put the patient back to sleep. With the simulator, we can simulate that the patient is waking up by having him open his eyes. The student should notice this and then give more anesthesia.

We use the same mannequin whether or not we are simulating simple procedures or more complex procedures. The mannequin is pretty amazing!

  • @GoldfarbNursing I didn't even know Nurses could even do such amazing procedures until yesterday that I watched this video. Now my goal is set, to become a CRNA!

  • @i3loodhunte31181 Go for it!

  • @GoldfarbNursing I have heard that it's rare that a patient can hear people talking when they are still under the anesthesia is that true?

  • @GoldfarbNursing hey! im 14 and I,'m look into becomeing a CRNA could you help me learn how to become a CRNA??
