  • disgusting

  • so bad, never heard such shallow sounds on piano keys, and what a frivolous interpretation. gross. he seems so intent on creating those shallow sounds, makes it sound like there is something wrong with the piano. sounds like a piano tuner tuning a messed up piano.

  • HELLO GUYS - This is not Lang Lang BEST version of La Campanella. Listen to the other version "Lang Lang - La Campanella ( Liszt ) In London - The PERFECTION is there. It´s a video which begins with a counting...5, 4,3,2,1... Here, he´s only showing technique. There, he really play it better than anyone on this planet.

  • I for one think that Lang Lang is one of the greatest pianists of the 21st Century. Guys, listen to yourselves. He has amazing technique, he feels the music to the point he doesn't even look. He LOVES IT GUYS! Who cares what type of exterior facial moves he does, it shows he feels it. Please, you guys can't deny his virtuosity and class.

  • Evgeny Kissin has a wonderful interpretation. So does Yundi Li. Not his studio recording, but I saw a live performance in which Yundi played Liszt's La Campanella, Rigoletto Paraphrase and Chopin's 4 Scherzi. His La Campanella was flawless, he never made a single mistake (not even one) and the interpretation was fantastic. It's on youtube somewhere. :)

  • 1:44 i love how he's convinced that he just effected a great perfomance by raping some keys :D

  • I don't know why, but there is something missing while his playing. Something that Kissin has, but not hil. :/

  • absolutely raped the piano

  • See the London Lang Lang version of La Campanella. It´s far better than this...

  • Do not applaud while he is playing!!!! OMFG

  • It was all right until the end (apart from his looking to see if the camera was on him). Why does he have to go mad at the end and speed up crazy-like? He's showing off.

  • asian on a piano and you know its on!!

  • ランランは、リストがいいかも。

  • The violinist guy in white looking all focused. LOL (Y)

  • he does what i used to do on the last pages: put lots of pedal so no one can hear the mistakes yet i still hear the mistakes :P

  • @jon6440 You're on to it!

  • He is very skillfull, but I just don't get how all the time he manages to destroy the music. His interpretations are just pedantic and tacky. He has so bad taste for interpretation that no matter all his talent, all his interpretations are plain ugly. This piece is so difficult that he couldn't deform it so much, that's why it doesn't sound as ugly as other interpretations of him.

  • @ortizricci Fucking dumbfuck you are. How on earth has he "DESTROYED" the music? THe music still exist, doesnt it?? It exists in you your mind, you hands, in your heart. Play it you fucking disgustingly complaining, hating piece of worthless SHITTY piece of CUNT. You are NOTHING, you fucking CUNT

  • @blackcuve AGREE!!!

  • Haters gonna hate but they'll never post their own video response to back their hate. Get real here. Good job!

  • omg this is just terrible....omg...revolting....this guy really do not deserve any of the glory he is receiving....i havenver heard him playing something well

  • Lang Lang is very obviously only making jokes on the piano, never trying to make music. Funny, but nothing more than that. Surprising to see some people seem to take it seriously.

  • @classic7295 If he want to be funny, he could make jokes of his mother and not deform the music that consumed so many time to great masters.

  • u're not serious in this video :p

i won't compare with other pianist,

but you seem like a bit showing off here..

especially when u finish the piece,ur hand like playing an aeroplane, whoooshh

u r a genius, your skill is the best and even u're not serious u can play it very good..

but, skill without passion just like u're in the halfway..u dont have to play this song to be look good,u can find another piece that can make u show off with skills too.. this song need passion and feel when u play it..

  • @cathiechan23595 he is been playing since 3 years old...performance sometimes means exaggeration. Rock band with a drummer would hit a drum like if he is playing so fast and make it look good. An electric guitarist would do vibrato over and over to make himself look good. Lady GaGa would dance and try exaggerate performance to look good. LanLan is doing the same thing. Simply following the rule of music sheets is boring and dead.

  • kissins interpretation is much better

  • Music starts at 1:23 (thumbs up please)

  • @guismiti You IDIOT.

There is obviously music playing from the start. Grow a pair of ears, you fucking cunt.

  • @blackcuve

    u mad bro?

  • Pisses me off that some stupid people just come here, simply dont listen to the music, hit the dislike button and make short negative comments. Im not a fan of his modified interpretations, but this one is very nice... and yes, he's a very nice pianist

  • Ok ok! We have to addmit that he plays much better when he doesn't make stupid faces hahaha! I think that it was quite good! Of course, it could be muuuuch better! In this video he looks like a pianist and not like a actor :)

  • terrible interpretation

  • LOL, lots of jealous bitches here

  • I see that he has quit his disgusting theatrics, but seriously, learn some elegance.

  • @monypril describe what you mean by elegance? Playing the piano is all sounds, not some kind of catwalk...

  • You know, Yundi Li actually plays this piece better than Lang Lang TECHNICALLY speaking as well... just saying...

  • u deserve to be called BANG BANG

  • HOW DARE YOU LITTLE BASTARDS DISSLIKE THIS!?!?!?! You made me very angry! You even can't play the first 10 sec. of this master piece and than you dare to dislike this?! It's so fucking amazing! Lang Lang is very very very very talentet so shut all the fuck up! Damn I'm so angry on this moment. Nahh I have to listen now on this master piece to calm down....

  • @DjaliMadh i am sorry but definitly not the best interpretation ...

    BANG BANG is back ^^

  • @DjaliMadh

    This a "master piece" ??

  • 600 apm :D

  • Actually, this is a great clear-cut interpretation. I feel that most of us are watching different videos. I mean, REALLY!?

  • Sad stuff..

  • When did they begin teaching piano 'etiquette'? It looks so ridiculous and pompous, its hilarious.

  • different.

  • Give the guy his props. He may be doing it purely for the theatrical aspect of it, but in order to play this song you have to have put a lot of practice into it. I wish I could play even one page of this song right now lol.

I enjoyed it. I'm not saying there are not better versions, but this was good enough to be viewed by thousands of people. Good job Lang Lang.

  • 10 times slower than yundi Li

  • @jade20032003

    Slower ? So, what ?

10 times, that means Li plays it in 29,9 seconds, right ?

    W O W ! !

  • this is the guy who owns campanella

    watch?v=uOxe73q3f5w

  • Lang is far behind of Kissin

  • @axysnapshots11

    Far behind ?

    Where ?

    And how far ?

  • 網友大家好 大家聽聽 彈的好棒 謝謝分享 到我的臉書

  • cziffra ownes this piece...

  • @onlymusiciansallowed NO he doesnt.Yuri Egorov does in co-ownership with Alicia and Arthur.

  • @abmsghost1 egorov? how can you say this? egorov is full of emotion, sentiment... If you talk about cziffra, who is full of emotion and sentiment you always say he is a sentimental clown, and now you say egorov "ownes" this piece.... only ice cubes like richter and pollini are good musicians for you.... laroccha is indeed very good, much better as for example argerich, also with argerich are the note's the most important, and after the notes what she thinks the composer wants

  • @onlymusiciansallowed I never stated that R.and P. are the only pianists that I admire.I love Hamelin,Lugansky,Lipatti,Haskil,Krauss,Myra Hess,Fisher,Zimermann,Cortot,Gieseking,Eschenbach,Gulda,Freire,Bill Evans,Annie Fisher,Moravec,Rubinstein,Michelangeli,Wilhelm Kempff,Backhaus,Katchen,Egorov(romantic but not sentimental),Wolfgang Manz,Vasary,and Cziffra in "Le Tambourin".

  • @abmsghost1 YOU'VE got me!!! indeed, all these pianists are playing the "tambourin" very well!!!! but you have to admit, richter ownes this piece ;-)

  • @onlymusiciansallowed I mean..Cziffra is good in Le Tambourin.Really good. Can you show me where I can find the recordings of this piece with all the other pianists.:-).There is one recording from Cziffra I like a lot .Variations Symphoniques ,Franck.Very beautifull.I believe his son was conducting. I heard that it took him years and years to understand what was going on in this piece. But its the result that counts.A pitty that this was a one time only achievement.

  • @abmsghost1 that piece needs you to understand music, so richter did not recorded it, or did he?

  • Comment removed

  • @onlymusiciansallowed Because one doesnot record a piece one does not understand it?Thats what you are saying ,yes? So,we may consider ourselfs lucky Cziffra did not record a lot or not at all Schubert,Beethoven(maybe the Variations In C minor) etc.Thank God.

  • @abmsghost1 maybe, but we may consider ourselves as "not lucky" that richter and pollini recorded so many pieces they NOT understood...

  • @onlymusiciansallowed Not maybe.SURE. Question:Why would the people at DG allow a "mistake"like Pollini to record so much. Are they all ignorant, deaf and stupid? Dont get me wrong.I dont like everything he recorded but I do respect him.And so do many other people.Ok,..He does not speak to you,but he does to others. Why dont you leave it like it is.You are not going to change the mind of his supporters.Never.So why this sick compulsive behaviour?

  • Comment removed

  • @abmsghost1 I will never use the word "motherfucker", I will never attack some one personal, a discussion is not a attack... If I read your comments not only to me but also to others, it's you who are the not so pleasant man... if people can say "wow, richter is fantastic" I can say "wow, he has no imagination or creativity, he is just a robot"... freedom of speech, never heard of it?

  • @onlymusiciansallowed YOU WILL NEVER ATTACK SOME ONE PERSONAL??? Calling Richter"the biggest mistake in music history"is not a personal attack??!! Get out of here!! Hypocrite.Jeezes what a waste of time.

  • @abmsghost1 richter is dead, and the "attack" is on his interpreations... if I must attack richter as a person, I could say other things, you know what we can not say about people like richter, and it is not done to say such things... and it does not mather in this case.

  • @onlymusiciansallowed You dont read my comments to others.Nobody is listening to you.You are alone.

  • @abmsghost1 because there are so many people like you, people that not understand the fact that making music, is creating. There is far more behind the note's then the composer wrote: the feelings and idea's of the performer, these are more important then the note's of the composer. The fact that a performer is creative, is the reason why a first ballade of chopin, when creative performed, stays interesting. richter or pollini have NO interesting performances,

  • @onlymusiciansallowed What is the Source we tap into when we create? What did the old poets and composers mean when they talked about the Muse? Who is she?

Where does the play of imagination come from? When are patterns and sounds art? When are notes music? When are words literature? When is instruction teaching? How do we balance structure and spontaneity, discipline and freedom?

How does the passion of the artist’s life get encoded in his art?

  • @abmsghost1 it's like reading a book: 10 people can read a book, every reader will read his own version of the book, and if they make a resume of what they have read, we will have 10 different resume's... if you place 10 people behind a table, give them 5 ingredients (the same for each), and ask them "cook" something, they will cook probably 10 different things, or, the same but with different parts of each ingredient. That's "creativity", and the one who will taste will be enjoyed

  • @onlymusiciansallowed I did not ask"What is creativity?",but"What is the SOURCE we tap into when we create?" Read the questions again and dont change their context in order to serve your purpose better.

  • @abmsghost1 the source is: ourself, when we have the ability to "feel", the will to experiment, and dare to think out of the box

  • @onlymusiciansallowed When "feeling"is analyzed back to its original sense,it is a relection of one's own unworthiness, the realization of one's limitations, physical and intellectual, moral and physical. When music is made in the absence of all modes of self-or ego consiousness, the pianist /musician is perfectly free from inhibitions. question:a pianist and a cellist play a Beethoven Sonata. Both have the same ingredients, right? Their own "feels"and idea's.What will happen?

  • @abmsghost1 the same with music: give 10 pianists the same piece to perform, I realy hope that they give each another interpreation otherwise it would not be interesting... where does it come from: from the fact that we are no robots, real musicians have the possibility and the will to give something from themselves in het performance, whatever the componist wanted, it's the performer who performs, the componist is dead and that's a good thing...

  • @abmsghost1 if you have 5 children, and they are all 5 the same personalities, talk the same way, think the same way... if your partner is thinking the same way, talking the same way as you are then your lives would not be interesting. The fact that there is something to discuss makes the world a good place to live. Discussion and taste make's us live... it's that what keeps us alive.

  • @onlymusiciansallowed How do we as witnesses of performances decode or release that passion when the performer/artist/composer is gone?

  • @abmsghost1 they play a piece 100 time's in public, it will be 100 times the same interpretation. Why? because the think they have to play like the composer wanted it to... what a mistake... they are not able to think behind the piano, they have no imagination, they can only reproduce. A reproduction can be fantastic, but it stays a reproduction, and if those 3 play the reproduction, it becomes boring.

  • @onlymusiciansallowed

    ZEER goed gezegd!

  • @abmsghost1 and you have not yet respond to the links I have gave you in the michelangeli forum: fiorentino in brahms intermezzi, cziffra in ravel jeu d'eau and sonatine, and few others...

  • @onlymusiciansallowed

  • @onlymusiciansallowed Not responded. Why would my opinion, be of any importance to you. What matters is that you like it.Isnt'y it?

  • @abmsghost1 becaus I realy want to know your opinion, it's not just for fun that I make comments, sometimes exagerated i know, but in the first place I want to know others opinions...

  • @onlymusiciansallowed Well, thanks for that Marcel. As you can see there are others that wish me dead.s'Gonna cost them dearly.:-)

  • @abmsghost1 Hey Walter I found the perfect place where you can get a traitement for your illness!! Kuwait is building the world's tallest tower at 1,001 meters in Madinat al Hareer, also known as the City of Silk. And the good news is, all you have to do...is...jump!

  • @onlymusiciansallowed

    Alleej, plezier dermee jeej!

  • @onlymusiciansallowed

Gij denkt zeker dat 'onze vriend' McClane is in Duro de Matar ?!

Wal zal de Callebaut d'a'arvan zeggen ?!

  • @abmsghost1 hamelin, luganski, lipatti, zimermann, rubinstein, all pianists without imagination, especially hamelin.... his etudes are creative yes, but his performances are very very very flat... lugansky is a complete idiot behind the piano.

  • @onlymusiciansallowed Lugansky an idiot. You told me you like him so much.I dont think Hamelin's performance's are flat.Far from.Different perceptions you know.

  • Every time I see Lang Lang playing it looks like hes having sex with the piano because of his over exaggeration.

  • @andy96733

Do you mean you use over exaggeration when you have sex yourself ?

  • i can never understand why he became a famous pianist...

  • not good and no wow factor

  • -_- you guys don't realize la campanella is for an orchestra? it sounds much different on a piano, you should have expected that when it's played on a piano.

  • @regicidal50

    For an orchestra ?

  • @geertdehoux yes not necessarily for an orchestra, but sounds the best played by an orchestra in my opinion.

  • @regicidal50

'La Campanella' is Italian for: the little bell.

The theme comes from the third movement of Paganini's ' 2nd concerto' for violin and orchestra.

It means Liszt made a 'phantasy' of it, nothing more.

Interesting is what Liszt's pupil Emil von Sauer left us about this piece.

    Cordially,

    Geert Dehoux, pianist (Belgium).

  • he transforms when he's not in a concert hall... and even.. Why can't you play like you did in Carneggie Hall in 2003? You were awesome then

  • Did you ignorant criticizers not understand why he plays his pieces like that yet? It is so obvious.

  • I absolutely prefer Yundi Li!

  • I've heard him play this piece better than he does here. This wasn't his best performance by any stretch. And his absurd theatrics DO detract from his performances. Lang Lang is like Horowitz when he's having a good day, but all too often he comes out playing like this.

  • Comment removed

  • Unbearable affectations. It is embarassing to watch and even worse to listen to. I'm out of here.

  • Yundi's version is the best.

  • omg that's terrible, why is he even famous

  • Two words: Yundi Li

  • @joseph10132 three words: lang lang bad

  • @joseph10132 yundi li is three words is chinese

  • @joseph10132 no you're wrong: Walter Schuermans

  • @joseph10132 Indeed. I agree with you!

  • I think Kissin's version is the better!

  • This is a great interpretation, but Kissin is a different class.

  • @Lustre1987

I think the world is pretty much fed up with both Lang Lang and Kissin. They are arrogant commoners. And they play that Rachmaninoff shit.

  • @Fuckhead274 If one does not even respect homself how can one expect you to respect others.

  • @Fuckhead274 you have a very apt username

  • @Lustre1987 I like Kissin's light interpretation but he's got some work cut out for him....like not making as many mistakes. it'd probably be better if he slowed down some

  • @Lustre1987 i agree kissin plays this much better :D

  • only Andre Watts play it as Liszt wanted it .thats why whn you buy a cd "best piano pieces) you will find la campanella played by Andre Watts.

  • This dickhead pianist is as fake as Liszt's music. Fucking hate him.

  • @1Thompsonmusic

    Where do fucking live ?

  • Kissin!!!!!

  • Best version is Kissin's, hands down.

  • stop comparing, who gives a shit to your opinion

  • i dono but i like li yundi's more...

  • Hater be hating... But yeah, this was a pretty bad interpretation from Lang Lang.

  • If his name doesn't give it away just listen to his playing. Rolf.

  • Disappoint... Not even as good as Li Yundi's. I am going back to Horowitz.

  • o yeah Lang Lang does a 55 mins long double hand drill and everyone goes WOOOOOO but this is not a good Campanella....face it. I don't hate Lang Lang like some others but I can't say that this performance makes him one of the greatest pianists...Also his Chopin interpretations are just good, not incredibly stunning

  • Fantastic!

  • one word: BRAVO!!!!

  • At 1:45, his notes are horribly uneven. shame on him.

  • @sfzNotes you say this as if you can do better than him...

  • @aimihowden No, but I know when something is played incorrectly.

  • @sfzNotes Are you serious! Geez who cares! He sounds exceptional to me.

  • @sfzNotes If you want everything even and perfect, you get a MIDI file and a digital pianola. But that wouldn't be music, just spelling out notes. LL is about the only non-mechanical-sounding pianist since Grünfeld and Planté (both born well over 150 years ago). We are so lucky that the Chinese were allowed to live without Toscanini's "living metronome" and the niggerish 4/4 beat of jazz, so they kept their natural feeling for varying tempi and human unevenness.

  • @chrisz78

I wouldn't say Horowitz or Marc Andre sounded mechanical.

  • It's at 1:21.

  • ....but the lady's announcement was awesome ! : )

  • ......apparently the lady presenting this performance deceived me with her smile ; )

  • I take this as a joke.

  • I DON'T LIKE HIS PIANO FACE

  • Ma chi si crede di essere Lang Lang??

  • At 2:50, looking at the audience,"I hope they do not notice how much I am screwing up". Look at the facial expression. LOL

  • I completely agree with mobeenew and Sankaman90. In this piece Lang Lang is merely a very good technician, but Kissin's combination of superhuman technique and unsurpassed artistry blows him out of the water.

  • No way comparable to Kissin's

  • I am stunned..

  • @wikct2, Yundi Li's version has so many mistakes at the end!

  • Forget this performance and click on your right on the video called "Evgeny Kissin plays Liszt La Campanella". That's how it is supposed to sound like !!!

  • Yundi Li this, Yundi Li that. Stop being on your bandwagon. There's no point in comparing musicians, so either make a comment related to the current video or shut up.

  • the string players behind him have their heads fixed like statue and just stare at the keyboard in amazement during the entire performance, like. lol.

  • The thing is other pianists could do what he does and easily. They don't for a reason. Liszt could have gone way overboard and made all of his music even harder to play but nothing would be gained except "freakshow!" status.

If he was doing this on electric guitar his fans would be calling him a cheesy, show off with no taste. He's the Michael Angelo Batio of the piano world! He is talented and some people like you know, skill, but it does seem more sport like than art. My opinion anyway.

  • The best version is played by Kissin

  • I cannot accept people who criticize Lang Lang. Although he might seem to be arrogant, are you guys better than him? He is a pianist and knows what to do with a piano. Unless you are better than him, stop criticizing him.

  • @yoontk717 Why on earth should Lang Lang be immune to criticism? Some people like his style, some people don't, but beyond that, he can be criticised for a lot of reasons, among which technical defaults and bad taste. Zimerman, Argerich, Berezovsky, to name a few: now these are pianists, and Lang Lang isn't in the same league. I don't have to be able to play as any of them to say that.

  • for me the best version will always be evgenys version

  • Splendid ! He can be very fine too !

    Dusica

  • I cannot watch this guy perform. I've tried but I just can't.

  • 3:18 EVIL FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @1Thompsonmusic

Please! I recently sat through Freddy Kempf's recital. He is truly a Bang Bang. Will never attend his recital again.

  • Three words: Alicia de Larrocha.

  • Personal view remains personal. I agree with both of you guys, keep it up! :):)

  • Wow...Glenn Gould was right. This is a sporting event.

  • what mass between 3:23 - 3:30!

  • 1:23 i just saved 1:23 seconds of your life

  • Comment removed

  • Bang Bang is ridiculously overrated and I have NEVER liked a single performance by him. Either his accent (sounding out a note) is too heavily pronounced or the phrasing sounds like each cluster of notes was chopped and separated from the rest. Terrible, absolutely terrible.

Anyway, in case you guys would like to hear my favourite rendition of La Campanella, check out Master Arthur Rubinstein's performance :)
