okay, so i go to see what people think of the performance, and all i see is this crud about her being fat and dance stereotypes. anyone with half a brain can see that she is perfectly healthy and in shape. that bulk on her legs? its called muscle. dancers that work hard and that have her build acquire it through training. calm down.
and all the "well jazz dancers/ballet dancers/contemporary dancers"comments are kinda silly. dancers are dancers. dance is an art, appreciate it please. thank you :)
oh please, she hasn't an ounce of fat apart from her boobs, actually they're probably toned as well! people have this image of skinny girls dancing where in my opinion the skinnier you are dancing, the less nice is looks. i don't want to see bones sticking out. i don't want them to look like they're breaking!!
Really you guys are some dumba****! She's fat? Just because you guys have no figure what-so-ever and crave for a actuallu body. Don't talk bout her. Because she is probably more toned then you can ever want. #truthhurts. Face reality you wannabes
@ohaiItsgrace Do you even know what the word obese means?it doesn't just mean fat. it means you are so overweight that it's taking a toll on your health and you might literally become sick because of it. if her weight was unhealthy, she wouldn't even be able to do half of the things she did on that stage
@souroukle um, no she's just well muscled. Alot of jazz and contemporary dancers are a like that because they have to be strong for the training and workout they go through. Trust me, as a dancer I'm just about her size and find it rude when someone calls me fat when I'm not.
@souroukle umm excuse me i believe you have no right saying that i would like to see your lazy ass get up there and do that thank you very much and for the record im only fourteen and my thigh mussels are bigger then hers because of intense ballet and jazz and contortion training so take that and go suck on it.
@souroukle She doesn't have an ounce of fat on her body. So unless she starved herself for months and lay on the floor and lost all her muscle, she has no weight she can afford to lose without still maintaining her muscular physique.
@souroukle she doesn't need to lose weight...what you think is fat is actually just leg muscle. Plus, maybe YOU think all dancers should be stick figures but the judges of this show AND America obviously don't believe that. She doesn't NEED to lose weight unless her weight is taking a toll on her health which, judging by the strength in her dancing, it isn't.
may i add my two cents? most of these dancers have classical training along with their jazz, hip hop, and salsa. Most ballet dancers are not exclusively ballet anymore either. Both sides of the spectrum work together and ultimately produce much more rich and strong dancers. I don't like it when people get into the whole ballet dancers are snobs and jazz dancers don't have training thing cause pretty much that's completely false and hurtful. Dance for the sake of dance and don't put others down.
@littledancer0724 you see these "dancers" will never succeed in an audition for a ballet. There is no theater or opera house using this kind of show-acrobatic movements. I don't see them doing this for a living, apart from maybe tv shows or ship-shows. Dance has the only purpose of expressing emotions through the poetry of its words, as dance has vocabulary and grammar. These shows are like a prehistoric man trying to talk in modern English but not knowing what they are saying...
@avariel5 these dancers might not be professional ballerinas, but i'd love to see a ballerina try to let go of their classical training and put emotion into a dance that isn't a plastered on smile. i'm not trying to insult the ballet world because it's brillant-but these dancers have just as much talent, just in a different way. You my friend, are what we call a "ballet snob", you don't have to be a toothpick with amazing turnout to be an inspiration, or for that matter, to have talent.
@LadySingBlues10 The problem is that these shows use some technique from ballet but distort the whole idea of trying to make a dance show that commercial. Its not the real thing.
@LadySingBlues10 Besides, a friend of mine, just mentioned that this looks exactly like go-go dancing. And to be honest... it looks a bit vulgar. No art in that. !
@avariel5 I guess it is vulgar if either you live in a highly sheltered environment or you have a dirty mind. You can't say this is "not the real thing" because it isn't ballet, it's an evolved form of dance. For a lot of people ballet is something beautiful but it doesn't speak to them...these movements are more raw and real, sometimes it's hard to tell stories with just flawless technique. It's relatable to people rather than just a spectacle that has no personal meaning to them.
@avariel5 that's true...sometime things are simply vulgar---but this isn't. She wasn't shaking her ass or her other assests. She did some extensions, a leap etc. I guess it depends on how we are raised, but to me, this was just a routine with an extension, a leap etc, and some emotion.
@avariel5 ok well i looked up go go dancing on youtube and seriously? they're essentially strippers without the stripping. this is nothing like that, she's basically doing mostly standard moves from modern/contemporary dancing. regardless this chick obviously has a beautiful technique and control, i'm sure she can dance any way you'd like.
@avariel5 that's because they're not ballet dancers....is that really the only kind of professional dance you think there is and the only kind of dance that has value to you? there's a huge market for contemporary/jazz dancers. more and more contemporary companies are cropping up, plus most dancers, even ballerinas, have to teach on the side. ballet dancers in a corps (which is mOST of them) don't make much of a living. besides, dance isn't JUST art, it's also entertainment.
@avariel5 just because they do certain dance moves on this show doesn't mean they aren't capable of dancing at the level of a prima ballerina. plus your statement is ignorant because dance can have more than one purpose. Just because you don't like their style doesn't mean a professional ballet company wouldn't like it.Also, you're overlooking the fact that a lot of these dancers came from professional ballet companies.
Come back in four years when you've matured and I wonder if you'd say the same thing. I've watched SYTYCD and been dancing since I was 12 and my opinion of the dancers has fallen not only from season to season, but even of the dancers that I fell in love all those years ago.
So much of the dancing on this show is emotional and acrobatic gimmicks, it lacks musicality and interesting artistic interpretation; its often shallow and leaves me forgetting what they did.
@avariel5 what you say that is wrong because there are many different types of dance. And why should not vary. Just because she dances no classical ballet, this is still dancing. It shows feelings and she has a wonderful expression and body tension.
Well this was extremely short.
