  • As far as the provision regarding pre-existing conditions is concerned: it will solve absolutely nothing + here is why: even though, the ins. companies cannot deny you COVERAGE based on these criteria, the bill does NOT keep your insurance company from RAISING the premiums to unaffordable levels. To put it simply: yes, they'll have to cover you, as long as you can afford the premiums. If you can't , then your policy is cancelled automatically.

  • your face is hilarious, i didn't listen to your stuff tho i was laughing too hard at the image....i appreciate what your doing tho ._.

  • The whole damn healthcare bill a fucking sham. Period. This bill will do more damage....and I agree basically with everyone on here. I also agree with Kuninich, because unlike the Repubs, he actually took a principled stand, other than just being being obstructionist. This said, all we are doing on here, is just to talk amongst people who already agree to begin with ( which is IMPORTANT), but unless we can convince others of our positions, nothing will change.

  • >>> and this cannot happen without an effective strategy. The right-wing is extremely proficient at this, and while we cannot ever adopt the tactics of intimidation and fear...we must be able to connect with people, who very, very pissed off and channel their anger somehow, in a more positive direction. In this regard, some of Arthur Silber's essays are important, although I would caution against temporary alignments between progressives and teabaggers for the sake of temporary solutions.

  • >>> these essays are worth reading, I might add... beccause they are definitely outside the box. Without global movements though...there very little chance of long-term solutions. Capital is able to adjust to adverse conditions, while labor is not. The problems are structural.

  • Thanks, Alex, for inviting me to do these with you. I love the chance to have some give and take, to explore some of these issues with you and now Brandon.

  • You guys should think about Bloggingheads' Apollo Project, where you could reach far more people, and a far different audience than you reach on YouTube. Ella (55Ella2007k) would be a good candidate, too.

  • actually I had never heard of that, I'll investigate it... at first glance, it definitely looks like our crowd, I'd say

  • Cool. Where did you end up looking?

Have you heard of bloggingheads before?

I made this suggestion to Zach a while back, too, before I realized you guys were doing these discussions. Given the discussion format you've already got going, it makes even more sense. Bloggingheads (dot) TV does what they call "diavlogs," which is a portmanteau of "vlog" and "dialog," in other words, exactly what you three are doing in this video.

    >>

  • >> I will note that BHTV's diavlogs always feature two diavloggers, never three, but if you add Ella, or if you know of other folks who could participate, you could form different pairs.

The thing about BHTV is that it reaches a completely different audience than YouTube -- a much more sane, less "wild west" atmosphere reigns over there. I would LOVE to see some truly progressive opinion find its way into the ears of more people, and this would be a great opportunity to make that happen.

  • >> I will send you a PM with details on where to find the site and how to let BHTV know you would be willing to do an episode -- assuming you are interested.

The Apollo Project is a sub-effort within the larger BHTV enterprise, and right now it appears to me that the Apollo Project is languishing. I'm sure it will eventually take off, but it's been slow getting started. You guys (and Ella) could give it a boost with some rational, informed opinion!

  • >> BTW: Full disclosure, I have nothing to do with BHTV, except as a fan of the site -- I've been watching their diavlogs pretty much since the site was launched as a two-man project back in 2005. Bloggingheads is like a YouTube for smart people. Whereas, you know, YouTube is like a YouTube for stupid people. Sometimes painfully stupid.

You'll still find some stupid over at BHTV, but not nearly in the fatal doses one finds it here on YouTube. (You guys are YouTubes' rare bright spots.)

  • I actually had never heard of them before, but then again, I kind of live under a rock.

Thanks for the info and I'm looking forward to the pm with more... I had a look and I didn't really see where you go to participate... we'll have to see what we can do to integrate it with our current format

  • Hi Again,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I got pulled away from my computer yesterday and am just getting back to it now. I'll send you a PM right now.
