See this just doesnt seem safe to me. i mean they say to never take your eye off the road, so why completely turn around possibly disrupting your steering to check behind you? to get rid of blind spots i just get those round mirrors and stick them on my side mirrors, and a curved mirror that attach to the bottom of my rear view

When you have side mirrors set correctly then so called "blind spot" is so little that only walking person could hide in it. You will always see any car including bicycles. Another thing is the driver should constantly check all the mirrors and all the time be aware what is going on around.

i agree with checking the blind spot immediately from the left and right, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to take your eyes off the road and look behind when travelling Both the rear view mirrors and the side mirrors should cover the rear of the car.

My driving instructor told me that to make a turn check the rear view mirror and the side mirror, then give a quick glance to your blind spot (the side back mirror) then make the turn. It's pretty much just a last step precautionary measure to make sure you haven't missed anything.

So set up your mirrors correctly and you don't even need to do a head check - well actually you do when there are two lanes next to you. The only disadvantage of this is that when you are reversing ie out of a car park it makes it harder to see if you are going to hit anything. But if your a driver with high situational awareness then this should be no problem

According to the code here is the best way to avoid accidents. Signal as a forewarning, of course to the rear vehicle whom sees it, the book says 100 feet before the decision and the handbook advices 5 seconds BEFORE the decision. At the time of decision you can shut off your signal as you run over the white line. THat way if you need to cancel the lane change you can unless you complete the lane change. When you are turning across the line do so very slowly

When there's a parked car on the side of the road and you think there'll be nothing in that lane next to you. Think again. I almost squashed a cyclist for not looking, seeing it'd be illogical for a car to try. Bikes are a lot smaller.

This is all correct. You must ALWAYS do both steps, mirror and blind spot. If you only check your mirror, one day you'll be in for a surprise! And you very possibly could be at fault too! The DMV examiners will DEFINITELY be checking you to make sure you are checking your blind spots, both mirror and looking back. A simple way to remember is: 1. Signal, 2. Mirror, 3. Blind spot. I learned that from my driving instructor.

Here are some tips for you:

*treat "giveways" as stop signs in tests..almost come to a stop to be safe.

*drive 5 under the limit! ..so you never go over!

* brake (where needed) going down hill so you will not exceed limits and fail!

* look over your shoulder when merging with traffic (blinker for 5+seconds too

*treat roundabouts with caution in tests, do not power through em! ;)

which is very poor because you can eliminate your blind spot. checking over your shoulder has actually been proven to be more dangerous because you take your eyes off the road plus at that angle you can unawaringly drift over.
