This model specifically the 701 4G was the first one and its got a rather small keyboard. I suggest to wait for the Eee PC 1000 to release. It has already been released in Taiwan, but will be around the world in August. Just wait for that model, it will be a lot better.

well i upped the ram to 2GB, and placed a 16 gb sdhc in the empty space where the pci-express mini is. but no touch screen. i have a variant of windows xp on it and it runs super fast. plus i got it the first day it came out, so its special :). for example the ones that were made later didnt have the pci-express mini slot.
well there have been many tweaks on the EEE to make it better. For now, I can run my resolution up to 1024x768 through modified driver. I'm running XP SP2 Pro and love boot up time due to SSD (~20 secs). As for hardware specs, the CPU is 900 mhz, RAM is upgradeable to 2 GB an bluetooth is easily obtainable by a dongle. I do agree though that it does look ugly. However, next month, Asus is releasing the EEEPC 900 which will have a 9' (1280x800) screen, a more stylish look and higher specs.
i see, hmm, looks interesting, i checked out the Asus website but it didn't mention anything about a revision when i had gone to the Eee PC section :|
The Air IS PRICEY but that it because Intel had to make new processors for this computer (60% smaller) and a new Motherboard but what scares me about the Eee PC is the fact that the SSD has so little space and I think that they should pre-install Ubuntu on it, it's so much more better than Xandros and Xubuntu :)
the thing about SSD is that its super expensive so that's why they cant include bigger drives, although the 900 series will have a 12 gb SSD. once you get used to it though, i have all my files on a home network and store some music n such on the SSD or sometimes on an SDHC card.
Installing linux or any operating system is a breeze on the eee so really there isn't a need for a preinstalled system at all

This model specifically the 701 4G was the first one and its got a rather small keyboard. I suggest to wait for the Eee PC 1000 to release. It has already been released in Taiwan, but will be around the world in August. Just wait for that model, it will be a lot better.

You get more updates: Apple releases major updates about every 1 1/2 to 2 months. With Windows, you have to wait more than a year. Eg. Windows Vista SP1.

How do you know that people prefer Windows? FYI, Windows Vista has less than 40% customer satisfaction and Leopard has more than 80%. That alone speaks for itself. People don't like Windows but they are forced to buy it because Microsoft has monopolized the software industry and because they don't know that there's alternatives like Linux and OS X.

Memory? Memory: RAM. You don't know what you're talking about. You're talking about Hard Disk Space, right? If so, Apple releases smaller updates 50-200MB (depending on how many bug/security fixes it contains) which in the long run is still less than Vista SP1, which is about 1.2GB.

well i upped the ram to 2GB, and placed a 16 gb sdhc in the empty space where the pci-express mini is. but no touch screen. i have a variant of windows xp on it and it runs super fast. plus i got it the first day it came out, so its special :). for example the ones that were made later didnt have the pci-express mini slot.

well there have been many tweaks on the EEE to make it better. For now, I can run my resolution up to 1024x768 through modified driver. I'm running XP SP2 Pro and love boot up time due to SSD (~20 secs). As for hardware specs, the CPU is 900 mhz, RAM is upgradeable to 2 GB an bluetooth is easily obtainable by a dongle. I do agree though that it does look ugly. However, next month, Asus is releasing the EEEPC 900 which will have a 9' (1280x800) screen, a more stylish look and higher specs.

The Air IS PRICEY but that it because Intel had to make new processors for this computer (60% smaller) and a new Motherboard but what scares me about the Eee PC is the fact that the SSD has so little space and I think that they should pre-install Ubuntu on it, it's so much more better than Xandros and Xubuntu :)

the thing about SSD is that its super expensive so that's why they cant include bigger drives, although the 900 series will have a 12 gb SSD. once you get used to it though, i have all my files on a home network and store some music n such on the SSD or sometimes on an SDHC card.
Installing linux or any operating system is a breeze on the eee so really there isn't a need for a preinstalled system at all

the new one out now just includes a bigger screen (9' compared to 7') and some extra storage. I'd say in performance ther about the same. im not sure about Australia but if i were u, id find an online retailer than offers free shipping and just get it from there. im sure the eeepc 701 (7' screen) is out in Australia if u want to get it. but id wait till june for the Atom(new cpu) or later for the 10' screen (about 6 months"

Every day b4 i go to starbucks i meditate by gazing at my steve jobs poster for 10 minutes, and thank him for all he has done for us wealthy people. I keep my air in a glass case at home so everyone can be reminded at how sophisticated and creative i am, though they should probably tell just by seeing my black, thick framed glasses.
