  • and from panda we learn to eat

  • I would be going for my shodan, 2 months after this aired. This show actually made me proud, that I was a martial arts student.. The character, Caine, showed that, in the end, violence is a no-win situation, even if one is the right.. I'd found that the longer I trained, the more I was likely to use restraint.. Or, as the song, 'The Gambler' states: "Know when to walk away; Know when to run.."

  • Thanks for this video....it also brings me back to my childhood and school years.

I was....am....and ...will ..continue to be a fan of "kung fu" and Taoism.

  • Thank you for posting this. "Master Shun" was my dad. :)

  • @surfgrrl78 You must be very proud of him. Was your father a Kung Fu Master? How did he come to be in this scene?

  • @yinyangnature - I'd really like to add all these videos to my iPod & Laptop to watch when I'm offline. I'd appreciate if you could uoload/ or torrent this for me. I am outside the US now, so wont be able to get access to the media as well. Please do let me know.

  • This clip fills me with emotion and nostalgia... this is where it all started for me back in 1973 my journey began.

  • Same thing happens here. Donno why, I love to watch this clip again and again. My eyes get filled with tears. Every time I learn something new from this clip. Words cannot communicate the feeling. I've started realizing that the conflicts in mind are nothing but a wrong perception of inherent harmony.

  • @NambiarGireesh I'm very happy to hear that you get so much from this video. May you continue to find wisdom on the Path.

  • @NambiarGireesh - Me too. Plus I think it is possible to observe everything in one's awareness as object, as the unfolding of natural processes with consciousnes as the only 'thing' I can truly call me. I often say in my head (as others may think me crazy !); ' All is external - mind, body, emotion and the rest of the world'.

  • @NambiarGireesh Nice comment, love it!

  • idem i

  • "When we perceive the ways of nature, we remove conflict within ourselsves..." Some profound words there.

  • Theres a guy who comes to my high school to teach a kenpo karate class who looks exactly like caine's blind master!

    Very awesome, thanks for posting!

  • I just recently got the final season on DVD. When it was first on, I never knew if Caine found his brother nor how the series ended. Overall, season three is significantly different from the first two in the types of stories, but the entire series is fantastic. I find it especially enjoyable since I now understand much more of the Tao.

  • Ultimately you cannot be out of harmony with yourself. Even the discord of humanity fits in. It is perceived by the mind as discord. The mind cannot perceive the infinite.

  • When we perceive the ways of nature we remove conflict within ourselves, how very profound and true.

  • Every time I see these videos, even if it's the same video over and over again, it's like I'm relearning it. Tears of joy and a refreshed understanding flows every time. *sigh*. I love this stuff.

  • That's so good to hear my friend!

  • What is the name of that tiger form at 48:?

    Anyone..

  • You see I just watched this video again and realized....this is the real reason why I'd wanna continue to train in martial arts. To achieve this kind of harmony and understanding of myself and this universe. So I can free myself from the daily mental discord I have by attaining the ultimate understanding, wisdom, and truth. One thing is to know, another is to understand, absorb, and apply it to daily life. *sigh*

  • this show is very inspiring, its one of the few shows where you think and feel better about watching and taking real life lessons from it, although of course other shows can also have lessons for real life, but also its very entertaining as TV shows should also be.thank you for posting ,

  • This is why I can not eat an animal. They are so knowing in who they are and their purpose on earth..each one. Only *man* doesn't have an idea what our divine purpose is. We must all try..yet animals know what to do.

  • It may take half a lifetime to master one system.....wow..... but if I wanted to learn kung fu, I'd like to learn a little of all the animal styles.

  • You should Try either Hung Ga or Choy Lee Fut both are based off the Shaolin Five Animals Both are great martial arts, Just make sure to get a good teacher.

  • I've read a little of both of them on wikipedia and I like the sound of both of them. But wikipedia mentions that Choy lee fut is like a combination of several martial arts and is very effective against multiple attackers so it seems pretty cool to learn. Baguazhang also really interests me, and I've had a year of Aikido so that was really fun. Too bad my sensei moved so far away... But I wouldn't train in martial arts for power or strength, I'd wanna do it to discover who I really am.

  • When we perceive the ways of nature... we remove conflict within ourselves, and discover a harmony of body and mind in accord with the flow of the universe...

    very true

  • I remember watching this as a young kid, my older brother loved it. Thank you so much for sharing these videos and for your wise words of wisdom. :)

  • Please note:

Messages containing course language will be deleted.

  • This is a bit trippy.

  • Rest in peace David.

  • The boy doesn't look much like the grown Caine. They should have at least picked an Asian looking kid.

But it looks like a good show, not like the dopey stuff usually on TV

  • What do you think?

  • Amazing....the true ... and the life... on the deep space of the words....Wonderful...

  • And from the panda... we learn to

  • Thank you for posting these videos

  • This was my favorite tv series. When I was a child I was looking forward to see Grasshoper. David, Grasshoper peace be with you in your jorney!

  • i think he was murdered because his genitals and neck were bound by rope, come on you decide.

  • Maybe it was auto-erotic asphyxiation. Not very wise or sublime, but possible.

  • The series was very deep for Seventies TV. RIP indeed. :(

  • goodbye DAVID

  • Excellent, thank you.

  • Indeed. Like a Zen teaching, these video serve not to teach us something new; but rather to remind us of something very important that we have forgotten.

  • Thank you for posting these videos. I really enjoyed this show, and Kung Fu The Legend Continues. It is great to have videos like this to serve as reminders that life is easier by allowing it to flow as it wants to, and accepting and wanting what life wants to give to us, rather than fighting against it and fighting for what our false selves and egos think we need to have. Letting go of those two, while difficult, allow us to be joyous, and lose anything that isn't real in the first place.

  • @mc

Indeed it should be about not assuming as opposed to not appreciating, some say you should set aside your affections, I think you should set aside your demands.

  • Very concise, almost poetic in it's philosophical statements. From form to harmony.

  • What are the names of the mantis and tiger forms at 44 - 50?

BTW, the commentary of this clip sums it all up...

  • I would love to be able to answer your question, but my forte is the Taoist philosophy and not the martial arts. I'm sorry I can't be of any more help.

Thanks for your comment regarding my commentary.

    Namaste

  • beautiful

  • If you live your life by the philosophy of the Tao I don't see where you can go wrong.

  • Your welcome.

I suppose the Shaolin philosophy is as spiritually and phycially balanced as one can get. To achieve the physical and mental powers that would make you almost invulnerable to any man, but still remain a dedicated pacifist.

And yes, born out of necessity. Buddhisim has had a rough past in fuedalist age China.

  • I took Kung Fu off and on for a couple years in the Mantis system. So much practice was done on form before I ever hit a bag or a kick target. Form is EVERYTHING. Kung Fu is incredibly fluid and flowing in it's application.

I always found it interesting that a system was derived from the Dragon, a creature that supposedly never existed.

    Or did it?

  • I recently asked a dear friend of mine who studies Kung Fu about your enquiry. She told me that each Kung Fu form is in the spirit of each animal which bears it's name and not necessarily the physical attributes.

The dragon may not truly exist, but the spirit of this legendary beast is well documented in Chinese mythology. Therefore a Kung Fu form based on the dragon's spirit has been developed along these lines.

I hope this sheds some light on your enquiry.

  • They certainly do; they can be found in Indonesia. Look for the Komodo dragon.

  • Form is Kung Fu's dictionary think of how hard it would be to learn words without a dictionary. Any system if you look deeper in the form you'll see actual movements used for self-defense, forms to me are an actuality a style not just part of the system Take the Hung Fist for example Gung Gee teaches you Qi, Power, Speed, and Basic Bridging Skills. Each Form Teaches you an aspect of the system.

  • It truly changed my life. From '75 on I was on the kungfu trail.

  • I love this speech. This is what makes Kung Fu Cool

  • humble yourselves my little ones free your own mind so that you may discover you are one with the universe as you know it one with I. If you cannot achieve this simple freedom of yourself One was maybe not ment to be part of its unique balance of flow within in its system. I suggest you keep living as a slave-within your mind among mans horrific creations capitalism in Democracy working for money, money to be happy-to buy your new car, house, wife, husband money:happiness

  • "What system did you master?" "All of them" - Chang Kwai Caine

  • Awesome footage of the different styles.

  • The late great Grandmaster Ark Y Wong was one.

  • there is nothing like this on television anymore. i loved watching this as a child, i know it influenced my beliefs and view of life. it introduced me to taoism.

only a TV show but wow...

now at least we have american idol...

    bwahahahahahaha!

    peace

  • Awesome. I'm trying to find out more about the men who played the monks. I know they had two LA-area kung fu teachers as technical advisors and fight masters on the show. Probably the monks were played by men from those kwoons.

  • Great Grandmaster Ark Yuey Wong, Master Kam Yuen Master Douglas Wong, for starters.

  • nice
