A hearing impaired/deaf person appeared on the Price is Right last week; but she didn't win any bids to be able to get up stage. I was rooting for her too.
I have 2 deaf friends and i dont know sign very well and they always make fun of me for it. The funny part is I have a learning disability so it took me a long time just to get the basics down. They invited me to a deaf party and i needed the help of a translator to be part of the conversation. I felt like I was the one who was deaf =(
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the interpreter was there for Kristine. I know he may have been in the way for the audience but I saw that she positioned him where she NEEDED him to be a couple times. Am I wrong but was this so she could see the interpreter sign and watch what was going on? As a hearing person and ASL student I am very interested in knowing what deaf people thought. Also, I noticed that the captioning was delayed a couple seconds. Does this bother deaf people?
@DeafTuber I'm sure she either brought the interpreter or the studio was notified before and he was available to her. I doubt they keep interpreters on hand just in case a deaf audience member shows up...
Sorry for the lag response -- actually, Kristine is my good friend. No, CBS provided the interpreters after Kristine contacted CBS that she would take her adult education class students to TPIR. In fact, Kristine had about 30 deaf people going with her. CBS provided an intepreter (1 for each 15) so in this matter, she had 2.

@aimeejola I don't know that I agree with that. A real professional interpreter (I am one) would have a lot of demands in that situation and a lot of decisions to make. It was more important for Kristina to see what Drew was saying than for anyone else to see her; I can see how that would be difficult to juggle. I think he did a good job, personally.
The lip smacking and the breathing is making me sick!!!!

I wonder how she got interpreter automatically since every one is picked spontaneously?
In any case, VERY COOL to see Deaf on national TV!!!!
Congrats to her for winning the prizes also! :-)

@DeafTuber The show probably has interpreters on hand in case a contestant they pull IS Deaf. That would be my best guess anyway.

I missed it so thanks!
By the way, the interp really blocked Kristine a lot from the audience and tv. Hmm a real professional interp would know not to do that.
