in my opinion a band sells out when all 3 of these following tasks are done 1. They leave their origional sound and reject it(not play old songs at concerts) 2. the new sound is more socially accepted, and has a larger potential fan base 3.the majority of the old fans wouldnt attend the said bands concert. I feel as if atreyu has done 2,3, and half of 1. They only played lip gloss and black from sucicide notes, and only rht side of the bed from curse on family values tour.

ACTUALLY, i really doesn't matter. tons of bass players use picks. you get a different sounds out of picks than you do slapping or playing with your fingers. it has nothing to do with lack of rhythym. any well rounded bassist will use all three of those as resources to broaden his/her range of sound.
