I was fortunate to be on the Simple Man cruise Jan. Actually the bands name comes from the band members high school teacher, Leonard Skinner, who gave them hell for having long hair. Later on, the band became close to their old teacher and he even introduced them at a concert.
This is a great song i remember hearing my first lynyrd skynyrd song when i was 9 yrs old that was 1989 it was the ballard of curtis lowe let us all remember "Billy Powell r.i.p Billy you will be always remember"
Heard Mad Hatter, Gifted Hands, and Brickyard road all in a row, in a playlist of 50 songs, i think that is amazing... RIP Leon, Billy, Ronnie, and all the rest of the guys
Well JohnZ This guy is a Vanzant brother, the brother of the original singer and I will say he sounds as good even better. I love Red,White & Blue ...We did'nt loose them MajorT
I can't get this song out of my head, It's been 15 very long years without my Brother.. That DAY is not far away, I guess the good lord is making sure I'm paying attention.. I'm awake & I'm always paying attention when it comes to my Bro.. We came into this world together & should have left together.. But someone had to stay behind to take care of mom & brigman.. I guess I was the lucky one & THANKS Skynyrd for the AWESOME song..R.I.P Piano Man..

I saw these guys live in August last year with my pops for the tour of this album, it's probably one of my favourite gigs by far, the age difference between the fans was phenominal, and so much energy from the band. I love what they do and can only respect them for still going strong after such tragedy has hit the band.
this song is so great ! i think of all my family when i hear this especially my father and my mother and sister! and i have played this song since it came out <3 thnx lynyrd skynyrd for making this song it means som much to me! it really does!

@flargmuffin92 ... just food for thought flargmuffin92(and my condolences also) neither of my Grandfathers were alive when I was born, I never even had that chance. If your grandfather was a great man, make sure you cherish every single memory, sad, but like I said, I never got that chance too..... I LOVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!!!! It's my personal Honor to be born a SOURTHERN CHILD!!!!!

@penntocali I think thats a really inapropriate comment for a song that is paying tribute to one of the founding fathers of skynryd. Do you really think that Ronnie would be there if the many tragedy's didnt happen. Frankly im glad there keeping the music going and Making great new stuff at the time !
I was at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta in 76, and I saw them again just a couple of days before the plane crash in Statesboro, GA at The Hanner Fieldhouse. And no.....they don't sound the same as the originals.....but hey Ronnie's gone! Steve's gone! Cassie's gone! Leon's gone! Billy's gone! Allen's gone!......we humans cannot control these things. Come on everyone quit your darn whining and enjoy Southern Rock or any Rock for that matter for what it IS not what it isnt. Newsflash....things change, people die, you cannot recreate something that was excellent, just something NEW. Put on the old vinyl if you must and enjoy that..or enjoy the new. Just quit yer bitchin its a waste of time. Thankyou and Happy New Year.
i agree jegor666 ive been listen 2 skynyrd for awhile and im 17 and the 70s was the best, but think about this man...you lose like 4 members of the band at once....im just happy their doin there thing and carrying on the great talent of the true "lynyrd skynyrd"
It ain't Skynyrd without Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Leon and Billy. There's still Gary but they play different music now. When i was listening to the older recordings of the new skynyrd like last rebel or lynyrd skynyrd 1991 that was simulat to the old original Lynyrd Skynyrd but now it nothin' like that.
@Jegor666 they wanted to try something new to still be skynyrd but standed out from the rest.. and plus like you said its only gary left so he cant recreate the old sound all by himself
Forget Zeppelin, Hendrix, or Sabbath or any other rock from that period. Thikapuhnuh you're a lucky son of a gun, man. I woulda loved seeing the originals but hats off to these guys. As long as Gary is still alive, Skynyrd will live.
Hammered why are you so bitter about which Van Zant is playing the tunes? Lynyrd Skynyrd was about playing music you just don't hear but you feel. That hasn't changed at all no matter which Van Zant is at the helm. Ronnie would have wanted his family to carry on such a good and pure thing. God bless all the Skynyrd Nation.
I would agree that the Skynyrd of the 70s was the greatest, but the reformed band has had some of the originals as well as other great guitarists from the same era such as Hughie Tomasson who was a good friend of RVZ. RVZ was not a guitarist.
Hughie Tomasson was one of the Lead Guitarists for the band called The Outlaws (the original Outlaws " Green Grass and High Tides" "Knoxville Girl" "Hurry Sundown" etc.) At the time, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws and the Allman Bros. with Dicky Betts were my favorite bands. I sill listen to them to this day.
I dont get how any body would truly come on a public chat forum and say this isnt skynyrd. From the singing to the screaming dueling guitars this is skynyrd through and through. It sounds like someone on here doesnt have the slightest idea what they are saying. I dont have to think that Ronnie would be proud, I know Ronnie would be proud. Keep on doing your thing my southern brothers.....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ronnie VanZant is Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you don't understand that now, you probably never will. I got nuthin' for you man. You want to watch Vegas tribute bands you're welcome to it. They're all over. There are some good Beatles Tribute bands around.
I'm not disagreeing with you man. I do understand that Ronnie was skynyrd back then however in the interim like evrything else they've evolved to a certain degree. My point was that whomever doesnt believe this song to be a skynyrd sounding sound doesnt really get what skynyrd was about to begin with
Hey hammered.....what's the problem Bud? Maybe somebody needs a nappy time? Yeah I liked the original Skynyrd too, but in reality the original Skynyrd ceased when Bob Burns left in 1975.
The band today is just as original as it was in 1972, just some different guys up there playing, that's all.
And yes, this is a wonderful tribute to Billy and Leon.
All u people who think this isnt skynyrd let me ask u this could u do any better? yeah i didnt think so. All those guys we lost are lookin down proud as hell skynyrd didnt die in 77 it rose from the ashes in 87 and has kept on truckin just like billy said ronnie would have told them keep on truckin
Hammered, Don't diss the band, this is a tribute to one of the founders who has left us, oh yeah, that founder stayed with the dream of Skynyrd music for the ages through it all, YOU HAVE NO RESPECT
This is beyond belief! This isn't Skynyrd! It's a Vegas Act cashing in on a Great Band! I'm sorry, but I can't get sentimental about this ripoff crap! You guys can get all "feely' about this shit. I'll be listenin' to "On The Hunt" and "Whiskey Rock A Roller." And you guys can spend your money on this and kiss my ASS!
hammered, you're an idiot. Just like im sure you like to hang out with your buds and drink...skynyrd's that way. Johnny was going to take over for Ronnie in '78 (if you KNEW history on the band). Rossington has said repeatedly he believes his life mission is to carry on the band and let the guys who've passed on, know about it when they met again. "Put up with this bullshit?" Put it this way...go blow yourself. No one wants to hear you run your mouth.
"I can't believe how long it's been" It has been a long time...... RIP Ronnie, Allen, Steve, Billy, Leon, Hughie, Duane, and all the others we've lost along the way...
My heart breaks over the loss of these guys. In High School the tragedy of the crash shook our world. The more recent loss of Billy was a shock and hard. I was just talking about it today. I couldn't even listen all the way through the song. I know I will in time, but these guys were our home town heros. The ones who showed us it could be done. Southern boy were of value. I am forever grateful to them. They play on in my soul.
@JohnZipperer youre right. my sons are playin it. They are 14, 16, 17. They respect it. they love it. they know what it means and have had losses. But not like they would have gained if others had lived on. Only God Knows Why! That's what I mean. I dont know how old you are but omg. only God knows why! L. S. You will live on in our hearts and our children.
Everybody remembers Gary, Allen & Ronnie, but Billy and Leon were both very special people. At their live shows and record signings, it was always Billy and Leon who took the time to talk to little kids, and really anybody they considered a fan. They will both be sorely missed for a long, long time.
RIP Ronnie, Allen, Leon, Cassie, Dean, Steve and Billy......God Bless!
these guys have put their own stamp on the Skynyrd legacy. keeping tru to the orinal sound, and yet carving their own within it. my hats off, and i'm on my way to the record store..sho nuff.
thanks man. this tennessee boy was lucky enough to have seen the original line up, and my hat is off to the present one bigtime. as you say..they are rockin on through tragedy & adversity.
this is possibly the greatest song i have ever heard in my life and it was written for a hell of a man from the sounds of it. I was fortunate enough to see Billy play with the band twice and i saw Leon play with them once the third time i saw Skynyrd Billy had hurt his knee and i didnt know it then but i had seen him for the last time and that was 2 years ago
amazing song it touches my soutern heart. billy was an amazing person thank god for him, hey the dude aststrila thanks for the comment i think the same way. hell i always thought yal where some cool people and have such a buetiful country god bless yal!!
@flobae its a damn shame when someone dies but theres no way you can stop it you know and one of my old sayings is shit happens but ya still cant prevent it

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Ronnie VanZant is Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you don't understand that now, you probably never will. I got nuthin' for you man. You want to watch Vegas tribute bands you're welcome to it. They're all over. There are some good Beatles Tribute bands around.
hammeredwappered 2 years ago
I'm not disagreeing with you man. I do understand that Ronnie was skynyrd back then however in the interim like evrything else they've evolved to a certain degree. My point was that whomever doesnt believe this song to be a skynyrd sounding sound doesnt really get what skynyrd was about to begin with
johnnyjohn58 2 years ago
I think Ronnie would be proud.

Can't you just hear older brother?

Hey hammered.....what's the problem Bud? Maybe somebody needs a nappy time? Yeah I liked the original Skynyrd too, but in reality the original Skynyrd ceased when Bob Burns left in 1975.
The band today is just as original as it was in 1972, just some different guys up there playing, that's all.
And yes, this is a wonderful tribute to Billy and Leon.

All u people who think this isnt skynyrd let me ask u this could u do any better? yeah i didnt think so. All those guys we lost are lookin down proud as hell skynyrd didnt die in 77 it rose from the ashes in 87 and has kept on truckin just like billy said ronnie would have told them keep on truckin
bigtruckfl70 2 years ago 2
Hammered, Don't diss the band, this is a tribute to one of the founders who has left us, oh yeah, that founder stayed with the dream of Skynyrd music for the ages through it all, YOU HAVE NO RESPECT

Thanks for interesting tidbit Legend, I never knew they had Johnny lined up originally to take over. Pretty cool history.

A single tear rolls down my face thinking you won't be listening, life don't end when lives are lost
joeherman100 2 years ago
Listen to Curtis Lowe! I cried my tear too! I'm not bashing this band....just saying this isn't Skynyrd! You know I'm right!

hammered, you're an idiot.
TheLegendofSkynyrd 2 years ago 3
I know you don't understand it.....but take a listen to real Skynyrd whan you have time. Then you wouldn't put up this bullshit.

RIP Ronnie, Allen, Leon, Cassie, Dean, Steve and Billy......God Bless!

this is possibly the greatest song i have ever heard in my life and it was written for a hell of a man from the sounds of it. I was fortunate enough to see Billy play with the band twice and i saw Leon play with them once the third time i saw Skynyrd Billy had hurt his knee and i didnt know it then but i had seen him for the last time and that was 2 years ago
