Go suck a dick, expertvillage. If they go up and down three times, then your shocks are fucked already. The shock absorbers should dampen all shock oscillation immediately. Once. Not three times. @ Joshxxt, for a smoother ride, you may want to get smaller 15, 17"? (get a tire with a big sidewall) and lighter (forged, etc) rims (lower unsprung weight) and also maybe moving to softer springs. If the shocks aren't properly dampening the spring movement, then yes, replacement may be necessary
Try this on a fairly new car and it will only go up once, my family has an 05 and 07 both only move up once. I have a 95 with 180k it moves 3 times. If it does move up 2 or more times, take the shock off, put once end on the ground and fully compress it. Let go of the shock and if it decompresses smoothly it's still good. If it moves up slowly then quickly in short lengths and makes inconsistent noise as it moves up the shock is bad.
i hope someone can help me out i have a 88 nissan maxima 6 cylinder. it runs fine on the street but as soon as it reaches 65mph on the highway it starts shaking like crazy up and down really bad .i decrease to 64 and it stops.other times i have pushed it to 80mph and nothing goes wrong it runs smooth im totally lost anyone help!???
Thanx for the video.. but why did the camera move exactly when u were showing the rocking motion...cudnt see thw motion exactly..
Is the three times like 'up and down collectively' 3 times repeated?
When i rock my car like u showed and leave it when at the bottom, the body first moves up, then down, then again up then down a bit and rests as it shud.
Mine didn't bounce even when the shock was dead.

man I like your videos but that is a lot of travel for a good shock. If mine bounced at all I would replace them..

will replacing the shocks and struts on my 96 camaro with 135k make it a smoother ride?
joshxxt 8 months ago
@joshxxt Yes. if you have never replaced them, you most likely will notice a huge difference.

he never replaced the shocks, how come on the title it says"How to Replace Your Shocks" I hate it when people write misleading titles...

I dont think it the shocks. It may be the drive shaft or som other link between the both wheels or it could be damps....
virgotrouble 2 years ago
maybe you have bad rim .if you remembering hit the rims hard maybe this is the problem
rifleair 2 years ago
@69fordgreenmonster That might have been the wheels need balanced

Between 2 to 4 and half are ok. less than 2 mean that shocks are seized or more than 4 and 1/2 means they are gone completely
virgotrouble 2 years ago
@virgotrouble if they were siezed they wouldn't move at all. less than 2 is fine. Do you even understand how they work?
hsvmatt91 1 year ago
so simple ! and to think i used to think you needed a degree to understand shocks ha !
