I love that album. But Garm sais clearly that the rumor of it being recorded outside is a tric by their ex-label Century Media to sell more CDs. It's false. See the Interview on the Lychantropen DVD. Ulver is perfect.
Hails this is the Ulver I was a fan of knot so much now but their early stuff was some of the best black metal I have ever heard this whole album was recorded out side by the way \m/ \m/
That is to say; a lot of these great innovations in music will be reused by pointless popularizations of the riffs in the end. With no reference to the original. It might take some time, 50 years at most. But I don't really need to be around then. Want is another thing. Wanting something and needing is another. Wanting is to lack, need is something I can understand, but don't do. So I like the wolf in man, what I want is reality for that kind of thinking. What I need is more beer.
The point in all Norwegian black metal was to create an emotional response, to do great emotional music in the extreme metal. This song does that, it is one of those great songs that will live on long after people have forgotten who it was created by, or for why it was created by. Sort of the antithesis, but also what it really was meant to be. Eternal music, instead of the popular simple rock'n'roll, or pop that is based on it. You can do great things as long as it's not what is expected.
I will buy a German Shepard, a Norwegian Elkhound, a Siberian Husky, a Wolf of some sort, and throw in a little black-colored Shih Tzu between the pack.
@Runesofgaelic hymn 1 is pretty damn good too. The accoustic in that is a teaser. But 3 edges hymn 1 out just a little and has a truly sad feeling in it.
@BF1 personally i prefer hymn one because of its acoustic part which i thinks putts it above this hymn, but hell we all got opinions, right? And Nattens Madrigal is simply amazing through and through.
@ih8makinusernames Well in reality I think my opinion has changed from time to time on this one. Yes, Hymn 1 is just that good, that depending on my mood I switch my answer to Hymn 1 being better. It sounds really inconsistent of me but it's the truth. Ulver at this time just made you feel this way, they were this good. So, I dont really disagree with you either. The accoustics in it make a phenomenal arguement for first place.
@ih8makinusernames In brief, isn't that a good problem to have in your record (Ulver) to confuse the listener so much that they cant even decide to be consistent with what song they feel is best in your album??
Seriously. It wouldn't have been better with a good sound quality ? I mean, look at Dissection, they had a great sound and great songs and it was really awesome.
Ever been lost in a forest? its the darkest, blackest, most brutal, experience a human can have. A secluded place surrounded by snow and wolves, its pretty brutal.
They don't have to use a generator. They could've used an Rv or if they used a generator, they could of had some really long extension cables and play far away from the generator so the generator sound wouldn't be recorded.
Actually, you could pull off recording in the forest, you need a noisy generator though, so playing loud isn't an option, it's mandatory. Why do it though, when you can start a rumour you've done it?
I was listening to Bergatt and just about everything except this album. I'm amazed they were so amazingly raw, pure, and evil sounding. This is really awesome. I'm going to have to buy this and Bergatt. I've yet to listen to their second album but I wouldn't doubt their genius by this stage.
I used to like the newer waves of black metal, but the first time I heard this older stuff, my opinion changed completely! WHERE DID ALL THIS ORIGINALITY GO?
Ulver is an incredible band, very underrated, they have made original and interesting music in a lot of different types of music... This song kicks ass!

true, but with the right recording equipment they could remove the generator sound, and it would be easy to pull off in that way
