  • fast and bulbous!

  • great video.Rory was truly unique .before his time really.genius r.i.p

  • of course he is better tha SRV...WHO DISAGREE WITH MEEEE??????:P

  • Hands off.........

  • "Thank you very much; hope you enjoyed the show." No no Rory: it is i who thank you.

  • Rory = God.

  • sorry not better then S R V he,s good but not better

  • @zacharybroyles Rory's Strat was stolen early in his career, and it turned up in someone's back yard garden. It sat out in the weather that way for a few weeks. The moisture helped pop the finish off the Strat. But YES, play a Strat hard and often, like Rory did, and it's going to bear the battle scars.

  • @TheTruthRocks if you read his website it also says that he had a really rare blood type which made his sweat really acidic which also stripped the finish of it

  • Hell yea, Rory kicks ass, still today......

  • I just said they looked like, not that the guitars were the same. It's not a big deal guys.

  • Comment removed

  • Now that's talent. And he makes it look so effortless! Our loss, heaven's gain.

  • Anyway, they were both great!

  • @gslermen Well that's for sure.

  • His guitar looks like the one SRV used to play...

  • @gslermen Timewise it would be SRV's guitar looks like the one Roru used to play..

  • @NCOpagn ahum.. Rory that would be.

  • @gslermen I think Rory bought his Strat one in Crowley's Cork in 1963. He had the same guitar until he died. Of course he played many different guitars throughout his career but the Sunburst Fender Strat was always his favourite.

  • @gslermen Rory got that strat new and his sweat was very acidic (according to fender) and ate through the finish. Stevie's Number 1 was used and had already been well broken and played before he started playing it, even though throughout his career he gave it that character and look that we all know now.

At any rate those old strats had a nitro finish that would wear out, unlike more modern poly finishes.

  • Every activity or talent can have only one who is the best; ever. In the case of who was, is & will be the greatest guitarist ever, it is Rory Gallagher. Simple as that.

  • Saw This lIne up 4 Times in the 70s ---- Fabtastic ---

  • i learned how to play keyboard from this guy....still one of my all time favorites!!!

  • The fucking keyboardist is so awesome!!!!! 1:45-2:27

  • The fucking keyboardist is so awesome!!!!!

  • This sounds so fucking goooooooooddddd!

  • wow, 1973, that was about the time I came across rory. His guitar plaing by this time was more polished and I only discover the taste stuff years later. His licks were still maturing in the taste days, by 73 he was the master, and he kept getting better. His range, versatility and devotion to his fans and the music are unequaled. This is a great vid, Rory young, brash and in his prime.

  • the dogs bollox..forn those that dont know......the fuckin best ever.

  • the dogs bollox

  • AWESOME

  • Sheer class ! Superb !!!!!!!!!

  • Fast and Bulbous!

  • Excellent ......!!!!!!

Forgot how much I loved this man. First heard him in Taste (there's hold old I am).

Saw him live dozens of times when I was a youngster. He was a prolific performer. Don't know if there was a time when he wasn't playing some where in the world......

    Sorely Missed

  • This is how you play live on TV - keys, guitar, drums and bass in a 2X4 room with amps and NO LIP SYNC! Rory was truly an amazing musician. He didn't even live to be as old as I am. I remember when album rock radio played him regularly; those were the days. I have the DVD this was taken from. Full of tremendous performers and performances too numerous to mention.

  • Absolute bonerville

  • Why didnt this man get the recognition he deserved?

  • @mig77ish he did!

  • i love the the way rory admires that badass piano playing.absolute genius the whole 4 o them.

  • don't know who's better rory or srv, they were so different...but more important is what they left for music and it's awesome! let's forget bout who's better and who's not and enjoy rory's music

ps sorry bout my bad english

  • Guys. Sadly Rory is dead. So ... he WAS a legend. Awesome player. Not really comparable to SRV cos they so different .. can we agree that they were both the dogs bollocks !!???

  • SRV and others are very good, they plays rock and blues to impress and for success, Rory lives and is the Blues an he plays to express and for himself. This makes the difference between a lot of famous guitar players and the best of all. R.i.P.

  • rory g THE MAN

  • T.A.L.E.N.T. with a capital T - Rory was amazing!

  • i could go to heaven listening to rory gallagher.

    guitar work is so beautiful

  • my hair used to look like that!.....brilliant song.

  • great RORY

  • God, I am loooving this...

  • We covered this song in my band and i think rory was a very talented person, and one hell of guitar player. I read pepole comparing guitar players to one another which is intersting to me, because i belive that all great guitar players have there own unique sounds which make them diffrent from one another. RIP

  • I just wanted to remind all of you out there, that everyone that really wants to, can become as great as Rory was. No matter who you are, it only takes endless practise!

  • @ste7ind ...playing,style,showmanship...nah man yer so wrong there..lets see what ya got?

  • no one could be as great as rory. not in the same way

  • Not disagreeing, but you DO also need great talent...

  • Wrong the billyconnearly. This rythem was invented in 1936

  • @Clacatoo This Rhythm - is a 4/4 bounce adapted to blue/rock - it has been in use since the first caveman discovered you could make a nice noise banging a stick on a hollow log!

  • it's a hammond?

  • ouais!super Rory !!! Tu me manques beacoup!

  • ive lived in dublin almost all my life.the first time i herd this track i was 6 r 7 i can recall it was out our back yard on vynil. thanx big bro.citizin of nyc.

  • rory made a normal blues to such a special thing, unbelieveble! 100 stars

  • I wonder if Europe knew, at the time, that they were watching a god.

  • What a performance...what a man...what musicians...what a song! ♫ ♥

  • Caught him in San Antonio in 74 -Wow- he Tore and Blew the place Away- Good thing some their were expecting it. His Strat ,Hair, No frills Light Show, and Denim Jacket.

  • He's even better than stevey Ray Vaughn

  • @bevhatle MUCH DIFFERENT STYLE

  • @bevhatle MUCH DIFFERENT STYLE TO PLAY

  • @bevhatle I wouldnt say that. Theyre both blues players and both have their own style. Though i love rory hella lot i think stevie put more soul into his playing just listen to rivera paradise or texas flood. but thats just my opinion. I dont mean any disrespect to rory at all..

  • @danieljaypark, buddy, it doesn't matter how fast your fingers or how big your strings are. You can't judge passion and no one had more than Rory Gallagher.

  • chingona rolita .YA ESTA...

  • como no, el es uno de los buenos que tocaba los blues.

  • This is a good easy one of his to learn

  • Yeah totaly agree, if your gunna get into playing Rorys stuff, this is a good song to start with.

    I love playing this.

  • This was such an amazing performance.

    5*

  • any one know the name of the keys player?

  • I think his name is Louis 'Lou' Martin, he played with Rory between 1973 - 1978.

  • hes a fucking beast.

  • He's Lou Martin, played with Rory on the albums Blueprint, Calling Card, Tattoo, Against the Grain, and Fresh Evidence ;)

  • If there ever is a biopic made of this great musician, i think a less buff Hugh Jackman would do nicely.

Looks a bit like him in certain shots...

  • r.i.p. awesome song always reminded of truth and split lips rockon bonzo 76 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!rockover dobbsferry

  • Greaat music! Thanks for sharing!

  • he was the best i hope he can't hear the crap on the radio now. he deserves better

  • excellent!

  • magic stuff

  • Cut his own path.

  • Oh watch him work, watch 'im, watch 'im! Yikes.

  • simply huge!!

  • the best guitarist ever (najlepszy gitarzysta wszechczasow) R.I.P. Rory...

  • Sorry but Rory is dead

  • MADRE PEASSO DE RORY ES LA BOMBA

  • Also, doesn't the gentleman protest too much?

Yikes. I think the songwriter is trying, very hard, to resist his urges. This makes me smile. It's fabulous.

  • Now this is LIVE!

  • best song ever

  • i was looking on the fender site and there's a Rory Gallagher custom guitar on there for $1400! it's basically just a battered strat with some custom pick ups, they can keep it.

  • Beautiful version of this song, especially because Rory is working in, literally, an enclosed space. But he still manages to set fire to it. Wish there were more versions of this song, live. It's a keeper.

  • Look at the state of that guitar ;) His trademark the old scratched fender

  • Never seen Stevie ray vaughans number 1???

  • hmm, makes u wonder where stevie got the idea to use a battered old strat :-p

  • It's not even battered it's because he got it stolen once and when he found it, it was in a puddle of water. I've also heard stories that the acid properties of his blood type had to do with it. I know I'm a music nerd. :)

  • yeah, i found that on his website. it said his blood was a bit more acidic than most, so whenever he sweat (and he sweat buckets), the acid in the sweat would break down the finish.

  • @JimmieX "how it'st like to be the best guitarst in the world? -I don't know.. You'll have to ask Rory Gallagher about that" -Jimi Hendrix

  • @krueger74

Its a myth. Jimi never said that.

  • I have this album (yes, vinyl album) and have had it for about 30 years and still listen to it.

  • love the way rory is biggin up the keyboard player !!! COME ON!!! YES!!!!!!

  • i cant stop playing this vid!!!!!!!

  • awesome....great classic sound and as always, rory hits it hard

  • Perrón!!!!

  • FAST AND BULBOUS!

  • What are you?? The Mascara Snake.

  • no the tin teardrop..

  • No ego is right...look at him egging Lou Martin on as if to say "Go for it!"...And the thing I noticed was, look at his strat...he's plain old played the paint off of the thing.

If there's a Rock'n'Roll Heaven, I'll head off to the side stage where you and Phil Lynott are having a pint of Guinness and welcoming us all home with "Guess who just got..." lol, Cheers all.

  • omg that was good

  • There's no way to not tap your toes at least. I just love it and this is maybe the 6th time I watch it!

  • total respect rory the best

  • Absolutley fantastic

  • Wonderful.

    Rory.....the great!

  • FANTASTIC, EXCELLENT, MARVELOUS ...

  • the master at work

  • This is MUSIC MAN!!!!!!!!

  • never liked clapton, this was the man

  • This chap stuck to the nuts n bolts of rock n roll no ego, oozed talent

  • Simply the best

  • CLASSIC!

  • AWSOME!!!

  • This is a great performance. Very well executed. It's a joy to see such love for rock'n'roll. Not a redundant solo note, no showing off.

  • I remember watching the OGWT when this was on. First saw him on tour 73 and Reading 74 and many times over the years.

Always fantastic despite illhealth in later years. A legend and a true gent. He supplied free Guinness at a St.Paddys concert at the Greyhound and would always talk to the punters after the concert.

  • keyboard guy is hands on ...

  • This is the first Rory Gallagher vid I watched on YouTube.

Wow, he looks so handsome. I didn't know that.

  • Vocal- & guitarwise speaking his timing was impeccable. Glory day's..

  • Rory was plain and simple..a genius. From Taste to the end, he never failed to give everything he had in concert and albums. Nothing fancy, just kick ass blues and rock n roll. What a shame he's gone.

  • Let's just face it, we're not gonna see the likes of Rory again. More's the pity. Let's not speculate about the man. Facts only please.

  • seen rory punchestown ,castlebar, lisdoonvarna and sfx dublin early 80s,still listen 2 him most days

  • Rory was the real fuckin deal. This man really had the blues. 5 stars.

  • Fantastic! Rory at his best!

  • the best album for me is messsin with the kid top pritory or big guns

  • this guys a god

     rest in peace rory! tyler.

  • You should all check out his - daughter elenor mcevoy- beautiful lady , great songwriter and well just check her songs out. From memory the keyboard is a farfisa as played by ian mclagan originally.

You all rest tite- great memories

  • you're kiddin, right? RG's brother reckons he never married or had kids: what's your source?

  • If Rory is Eleanor Mcevoy's father, he would

have barely been eighteen when he fathered her. So is it fact or just some shite going

around? Either way, they are both great.Rory

is a legend and he would be deserving of some-

one to carry on in the music industry. I could

imagine anyone who had Rory for a father being

proud enough to shout it from the roof tops,

    but she hasn't.

  • I'm pretty sure he is her father - I thought that was just common knowledge!

  • Rory Gallagher didn't have any children, get your facts straight and don't try to start some bullshit gossip :S

  • Question: does anybody know what kind of keyboard Lou Martin played?

  • Could be a Fender Rhodes.

  • I think you guys have misunderstood, someone said 'this man makes everyone else look like shite' and in response kenniemurphy put 'worese than shite' as in rory makes everyone else look worse than shite, as in roto is great. Just check his profile dudes, kennie is irish, he would never disrespect rory.

  • whoops i mean rory* not roto, lol.

  • too right, cheers mate

  • Once again, sorry about that.

  • no probs man lol id probably do the same if someone said that about rory!

  • This version sounds very tame for Rory. Listen to him at Reading 1976, he takes right down with Gerry and Lou tiptoeing it along and then launches it into a Irish jig and blues finish.

There was no one like Rory.

  • Rory was unique... Great music, great strat tone, one of the bests for sure....

  • I can listen to Rory all day.His music will stand the test of time. The man was a fucking genius on that strat.R.I.P.RORY,sad loss.

  • i cant belive hes gone

  • this man makes everyone else look shite

  • worse than shite.

  • you must be a stupid fucker

  • lol i didnt mean rory, i was replying to an earlier comment saying rory made everyone else look shite

  • O, ok. sorry about that then. Didn't mean to offend.

  • true true true. i have heaqrd hendrix, clapton, vanhallen but rory is the real deal.

  • sitting front/center at a table with friends at 7 of his shows in Cleveland were some of the best evenings I ever spent in my life...

  • Dude, I was there too! Cleveland Agora 74,76 79 .

  • rory was a genius

    R.I.P

  • Great stuff. Awesome strat tone with that bridge pickup.

  • This Guy got in me into blues :)

  • sinner and saint a taste of genius

  • That is BLUES and it rulzzzz!!!

  • It's funny how the simplicity makes it so hard to replicate. sure someone can play this, easy... but sing and play, with this groovy of a sound ? nope.

Rory, one in a billion, truly one of a kind.

  • the ONLY one of his kind!

  • Brilliant. Rory having a laugh. Simple music in one sense but almost impossible to replicate, voice and guitar, the best

  • One of my favorites. Rory RULES.

  • rory rules

  • Irish Tour '74 (CD) is also PERFECT!!!

From DVD I recommend Live At Montreux and Rockpalast!!!

  • ON THE BOARDS (Taste)

    LIVE TASTE AT MONTREAUX (Taste)

LIVE IN EUROPE (Rory Gallagher) +30odd other albums!!

  • That was special. I heard this on my dad's OGWT dvd and would love to hear more by him. Can anyone recommend an album?
