It's like listening to 3 different bands... in a sense they're genius!! They rolled with the punches & satisfied a wide variety of audiences! I LOVE the original FM, but also love them after they changed it up by adding Christine & Stevie... Now the 80's pop stuff, BLEH!!! But there are ppl that love that era, that's a true artist for ya! Meeting up with the demands of their audience!
The real 'Mac' ceased to exist when Peter Green left, and they became a 'pop' band. They might have got money and recognition when Nicks/ Buckingham came on the scene, but that was'nt the 'real blues band' I watched regularly 'live', and grew up with. Greeny did'nt 'sell out', he carried on with his true love, THE BLUES. Thought him & Rory Gallagher playing ' Leavin Town Blues' was probably the best I have heard two great Blues Musicians play. Ain't Heard it? Give it a try, Awesome.
@kettuantti The most innovative music era of modern times. The teens of the50s formed the bands that made the 60s, ( Beatles, Floyd, Cream, F/Mac, etc ), then it mostly started to go downhill for some reason? The70s, 80s, onwards produced some wonderful music, but NO era will be remembered like the 60s. I am so glad I was a teenager right thro that time. Glastonbury before it turned sour, good live music, no real violence to speak of, a lovely time to be young.

Totally agree with the comments below. This was the one and only Fleetwood Mac for me, and I get REALLY angry when I mention "Fleetwood Mac" and get the reply "Rumours?" - GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The greatest English guitar player in my opinion. And he's got some serious competition. Step forward, Beck, Clapton, Blackmore, Iommi, Knopfler and all the rest.
There is out there two really good books about Fleetwood Mac- Behind the Mask- written by Bob Brunning, also the Peter Green story by Martin Cellmans. These were isued in the 1990`s though. Behind the Mask contains more early facts about Fleetwood, tours Etc
I disagree with minggnim, in 1969, while the band still consisted of Fleetwood, MacVie, Kerwan, Spencer and Green they were out selling the Beatles and Rolling Stones combined! I saw FM many times here in California in the late sixties. I followed this band intently, by odd coincidence I was living with a "cult" called the "Children of God" in L.A. when Jeremy quit the band and joined the cult, fond memories....Thankfully both Jeremy and I left Children of God, I left shortly be he
He did not do much when they mimed to their hit singles on which he was not really involved .However ,live he was a vital part of the show t hardly played on Peters or Danny's songs, but. his impersonations of Elvis and others were hillarious, the other members backing him and enjoying it -there were still the Elmore James numbers sprinkled in the set The band could do anything I saw them do Twist and Shout (in the Beatles way) Peter singing it ,with McVie dhelping with Backing vocals!!
Watch "like it this way" guitar exchange between Green and Kirwan. Kirwan is the first to go..Green answers...who's best ? besides the point..they sound a little different .".K " stings a little more. Doesn't get better than this.
This seems like it is before Danny when they were trying to be a traditional British blues band.
The band picked up Jeremy because he could do a bunch of Elmore James tunes straight off the record, note for note. But after Danny was hired, he and Peter started to drift away from the traditional blues. But Jeremy couldn't seem to keep, In the later days he's just shaking the tambourine.
I did like the one album they did with Jeremy in charge, after Peter left. It was very "Buddy Hollyish".
You are right of course, Jeremy plays every lick and sings every word EXACTLY as Elmore James. (I think that he misses one "oh yeah" wight at the end)
They're only pretending to play because the audio is the studio recorded version of the song. Notice that Spencer doesn't have a microphone. Looks like they did lip-synching on pop TV shows even then.
@Vinniemoore89 It wasn't "the girls" - Christine was OK IMHO. "Bare Trees" is an excellent album that I wore the grooves off of back in the day. Stevie and that narcissist Lindsay Buckingham are what *really* ruined the band for me.
It's on video as well as DVD - called Fleetwood Mac THE EARLY YEARS. Wish there was still some footage of Jeremy doing his 'Elvis' 'Little Richard' type impersonations. I remember one gig around 68 when he brought the house down with these songs, tilting his piano etc. God this band were shit hot then.
i love this music and the history

@mr1168726 Gilmour is a genius. And is probably the only guitarist, along with Tony Iommi, who innovated a totally new sound.

Britains best blues/rock group ever. Jeremy Spencer singing here. This rec was made before the super talented guitarist Danny Kirwan joined the band

...but FM didn't become world famous until Nicks/Buckingham era.
Three song writers. Three distinctive singers.
Without Nicks/Buckingham, FM was probably as famous as they were going to get.
While Nicks/Buckingham probably would have gone on to be a semi-famous country/ballad duo.

Kiln House was the first post-Green lp. I think it's very underrated. I liked it better than the more celebrated Bare Trees.
Nice summation mugwump.
