  • This shit is awesome, i love what this band used to be AND what they've become.

  • Comment removed

  • FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is pretty boring but at least they've gotten better.

  • no thanks

i'll be over here listening to WEAKLING

  • Also, I hate that everything atmospheric has to be an apparent rip off of WITTR. There are other bands that do it and they weren't even the first.

  • wolves in the throne room ripoff?

  • First album is best album. That shit just sounded cold, dark, and emotionless. This sound almost... happy or something.

  • old school new school it all sucks haha you've just been burned lie you will all do after death

  • sounds like wolves in the throne room.

  • This sounds just like all the other atmospheric, folky black metal coming out these days. Sounds just like Wolves In The Throne Room and Liturgy. Lacks any bite or malice.

  • @wizardsdestroyedthem I dont mind that fact though...

  • Sounds great but there is one huge problem.... The vocals sould like every other Bob, Dick and Tom that claim to be blackmetal.

  • LOVE THE NEW SOUND!

  • The "oldschool black metal", or Music of the circle was done on head set mics. and the shittyest amps. Burzum made it seem to be a political thing. The quality adds to it as a texture. music is art. accept it. Fuck your ego lets see something beautiful you have created.

  • creo es la mejor del cd esta chingona la cancion

  • This band will always suck

  • Fucking awesome! Abigail Williams is definitely one of my favorite bands! This song reminds me of Wolves In The Throne Room. If you guys haven't them them, check them out.

  • Their previous style died so they are trendjumping to black metal. Pathetic

  • Comment removed

  • it very nice. terrible

  • Not gonna lie.... sounds like a cheap rip off of Wolves in the Throne Room and Ash Borer

  • HOLY FUCKIN SHIT! one of the few bands, which are better from album to album!!!

  • they're old stuff was better i think it was more unique then this new sound

  • In The Shadow of a Thousand Suns is one of my favorite albums of all time. it just so happens that I live an hour away from Wolves in the Throne Room and they are one of my favorite black metal bands. old Abigail Williams was amazing as an extreme metal band. this album so far is amazing as a black metal album. I didn't like In The Absence of Light tho. it didn't flow and it wasn't very melodic.

  • @daltonplaysthesax I'd have to agree with all your points. Youtube search Immanifest

  • I love old AW....sorry, dislike

  • This is promising, actually. Now I'll have $10 to spend on something else.

  • @TheSkilfingar: Maybe you should wash your ears, if you`re not able to hear out the difference from Melodic / Symphonic and Atmospheric Black Metal.

It sounds totally different and as we are on Youtube, here are a lot examples for many different Black Metal genres...maybe you should risk an ear (and i mean the one which isn`t blocked.

  • they were, are and always will be amazing!

  • srsly, what about getting one original, own style? instead of always changing into copying sth else... sure, they can play their instruments, they know how to write a song, but still... noone needs this...

  • the intro is Sryrim approved

  • It's like old school black metal, but redefined and it sounds just new and great to me

  • @sgtzero1337 you are truly a faggot bruh

  • @throwedlol nooo

  • @throwedlol How am I a faggot?

  • I remember when this band used to be terrible.... now Id say they are easily one of the best american black metal bands in the scene today. fucking infernal KUDOS to these guys for turning it around. This song is amazing.

  • This is fucking amazing! I'm so glad they made this

  • At least the production / sound isn`t shitty like hundreds of the so-called "True" Black Metal releases. Something i will never understand, i mean you can sound cold and "true" even with a good sound.

What i am wondering is, why they changed their music style that much. For me i like it more, but i wasn`t expecting this.

  • @suoquainen To what did they change their style in your opinion?

It's the same genre as on the last two releases.

  • Hmym! This sounds like Nordic-style black metal, there are lots of this type of bands in Finland...I like the older Abigail, but this kicks ass even more!

  • eliminating all core elememnts from there music and going with a straight forward black metal sound is the best thing they ever did, fuck the haters

  • Saw them play this live back in November. Great bands- Woe, Abigail Williams, Hate, Keep of Kalessin, and MAYHEM! One of the best concerts I have ever been to!

  • This disappoints me. Im not saying this sucks. Its decent. But their style changed so dramatically. I wont buy this album.

  • awesome song, but also in a way i miss the old abigail williams. but in my opinion both is very good :)

  • bummer =/

  • hey thats a pretty decent wolves in the throne room song

  • This is a great song but the production is....different

  • This song is amazing...The ending is just so beautiful. Can't wait for this album to drop.

  • this is type black metal!

  • "hey guyz r we blak metvl yet?!?"

  • @atonewiththedust Seems like someone doesn't know how the 'v' and the 'u' work!

  • After the slight dissapointment that was ItAboL this is sounding so much better.

Each album has been a take on a different face of BM.

  • Am I the only one who thinks old school black metal totally sounds like shit? it sounds like it was recorded with an xbox live headset in a trashcan outside the studio. ITSOATS was 1,000 times better but hey, what are you going to do when you get your shitty old drummer back because sam left for decrepit birth. wise choice, sam.

  • @DissYraiN

Watch your mouth! The old school is your god, and you should respect and worship it.

  • @blackmetalblunt I certainly don't worship Lars Ulrich. He totally sucks ass. He's old school.

  • @DissYraiN

Lars is the exception... Not the rule. The awful, short, talentless exception.

  • @blackmetalblunt Lol at least we can agree on that.

  • @blackmetalblunt No he's not. There's absolutely no reason to 'worship' something because it's 'old school'. Complete bullshit.

It just happens that the guy hating on older BM bands has sucky taste, that's not his fault.

This song sounds an awful lot better (even if they're cashing in on current trends) than the last stuff I heard by AW, which musta been in 2009 or so.

  • @potn00dles

I hope Lord Fenriz is merciful on your soul when you die.

  • @potn00dles it seems like nobody cares what you're saying lol

  • @potn00dles spiss ass

  • @DissYraiN totally broski

  • @DissYraiN id like to see you do better

  • @DissYraiN Dude, if you think old school black metal sounds like shit, you have no business in this genre. Fucking fags.

  • @DissYraiN A) Abigail Williams isn't 'old school', if anything its a rip off of the cascadian sound, but I don't expect you to know what that means. B) Samus was a great drummer, and it's awesome that he left for a band that actually uses his talent, but Abigail Williams wasn't good when he was in the band, and they aren't good now. don't think otherwise.

  • @DissYraiN the older you get, the better shittily recorded music sounds.

  • @DissYraiN WTF does Lars Ulrich have to do with black metal? I mean really? It sounds like your idea of black metal is Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth if sterile production is your thing. I'm not going to diss them, they're doing their thing, although it's not black metal. If mallcore is more your thing, so be it. Just don't shit on something you have no fucking clue about. Nobody demanded that you like black metal.

  • @DissYraiN BTW this is the first time I've heard this band, and the production sounds nothing like what you described. Were you listening to this under those conditions? How bad do your computer speakers suck? This is way better than I expected, though unremarkable. Definitely see a WITTR connection though less fluid and aggressive.

  • @DissYraiN I think you miss the point that it's sort of meant to have pretty poor production

  • @DissYraiN that's kind of the point. It was made to sound completely dissonant and, in other words, sound like shit.

  • @DissYraiN I fucking LOVE YOU

  • @DissYraiN Clearly you know nothing about black metal.

  • @DissYraiN

    You're an idiot

  • @DissYraiN

I for one disagree. BM isn't supposed to sound polished or pretty, and ITSOATS was another polished symphonic BM album following the trends set by CoF, Dimmu, etc. I agree it was good, but most true black metal fans will disagree. Varg Vikernes actually recorded some Burzum albums with a headset mic, and on purpose...so it's not unheard of. Either way, I'm just glad that AW is capable of changing styles every release without dropping something awful. Keeps things fresh

  • Abigail Williams are like black metal chameleons.

  • Abigail Williams in the Throne Room

  • @kylekostun ; I thought they sounded exactly like them, too. haha.

  • why listen to it if your going to talk shit

  • @TheDrunkLemon Not talking shit, I love Abigail and Agalloch, this just caught me off guard.

  • wow sick growl at 7:10

  • Comment removed

  • Not all of us have time to be dorks and dissect every little riff and compare it to another band. Did the band make a song that's fucking amazing to listen too? Yes. Is this their career: do they get paid to make awesome music: yes. Do you?. No. Just enjoy it for what it is and stop making things so complicated. Jesus christ.

  • Amazing

  • I don't like very much their style. I was excpeting something more symphonic, but with songs of 10 minutes what could you excpet? Atmospheric stuff? Nah, it's not for me...

  • i don't like that direction the band is going, it sounds like a good rip-off of WITTR and Alcest together, but i think it's trend hopping

  • hey Abigail Williams! Wolves in the Throne Room called, they want their tape recorder back.

  • Definite Fields of the Nephilim feel. Very cool

  • I feel strong Wolves in The Throne Room influence. Sounds like a blast from the past. Love it.

  • I bet Wolves in the Throne Room wished they sounded like this.

  • 1:00 to 3:05 the best part <3 the guitars sounds really beautiful

  • They should just change their name to Agalloch Williams..

  • @DeathMetalTim32 HAHA YES!

  • @DeathMetalTim32 Holy shit. Good call dude.

  • @DeathMetalTim32 hell yeah my 2 favorite bands combined

  • @DeathMetalTim32 it sounds more badass too... but then again, there's some issues with naming similarities. and now then the original name has lost it's meaning :P

  • @DeathMetalTim32 They sound more like Fen or WitTR to me, but I get what you're getting at.

  • @gsp1175 I hate to be that guy, but I never listened to Wolves in the Throne Room. :/

I'll look them up in a bit.

  • @DeathMetalTim32 Well i would rather think of Abigail in the Throne Room

  • I fuckin like this

  • I like it. And I liked it even better live.

  • Reminds me of Wolves in the throne room. Hail American black metal!!

  • i still think in the shadow of a thousand suns is their best album. i know not many 'true' black metal fans like it but that album just has a really savage and unrelenting style and kens vocals were top notch on that album i don't know why the vocals are so quiet in this song and the last album. overall this songs pretty good though

  • beautiful :')

  • I really like their new direction that they are making with this new album. I will be picking this up. This song was really fucking good!

  • I can not beleive this is Agigail Williams. A much more mature sounding song than anything they have ever wrote... Can't wait to hear the rest.

  • Wow. Wasn't expecting this. Very WITTR like.

  • As Hank Hill once said.

    Excitement. Then disappointment.

  • 8:40

    :]]]]

  • definitely like this atmospheric style better than the other stuff they put out for sure. Just saw them live with Mayhem a few days ago and I was not excited to see all their symphonic stuff.....but all they played was this style....was an amazing night

  • i really like this style, imho i dont care when bands change their style unless it sounds shitty, abigail williams has tryed some diffrent styles but i've definitely grown accustomed to every one, because they all are unique in their own way, and its just good music in general, not typical black metal in any aspect

  • I've been a fan of Abigail Williams since 2006 before Legend was released. I completely support their evolution as musicians and Ken's songwriting. Comparing this band to anyone else is pointless because after Becoming is released they will make a new record evolved into something new. I respect WITTR but just get over pigeon holing bands already. Let them grow into something great and support bands you love no matter what. All the hate is unnecessary. People need to relax.

  • I do in fact like their new vocal variation though...the addition of growls really brings out "the beast" in this song

  • Good Song

    Good Writing

    Good Riffs

    Good Structure

    No Originality

I like the stuff that this band writes, but it pisses me off that they can't find a sound of their own. I know some will disagree, but they went from biting Emperor's style to biting Wolves In The Throne Room... they're good but they have to find a sound that sticks with them for more than one album and is unique.

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP Agreed. I too wish they would find their own sound instead of playing vegan black metal. But the intro acoustic guitar riff reminds me of star wars for some reason.

  • @totlamaddd since when is adding atmosphere vegan? I think you worry to much about labels

  • @totlamaddd what the hell, Vegan? Why label every subgenre with another subgenre? It's getting ridiculous these days.

  • @theghostofavalon Wolves in the Green Room: Two Treehuggers

  • @totlamaddd Lol, what in the FUCK are you talking about? XP

  • @IndubitablyMe1988 The counter eco-terrorism vegan black metal band Wolves in the Green Room. Fighting to save plants one moon phase at a time.

  • @totlamaddd Oh, shit man. That made me spit my milk all over my keyboard. lol

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP They had that style on ITSOATS, it was also much heavier than Emperor. But all of the retards and tr00 bl4ck m3tul kids constantly bitched about how they included "-core" elements in their songs, none of which actually existed since they released Legend.

  • @igotwoodhaha Of course they had that on ITSOATS, and I like that album. And it's not because they had core elements (I agree they abolished that when ITSOATS came out). Let me put it this way: I'm seeing them play with Inquisition and Dark Funeral in February, and they have direct support. Inquisition deserves it more IMO. More albums, much longer lifespan, and a much more distinct sound. Sure they have influences that are noticeable, but they don't merely copy a band like AW does

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP You have to think about how many members they have went through as well. Ken Sorceron being the only one in the band for more than two years up until Absence of light. Everything since he fully took over has been legit (I mean legit enough for Trym to handle drums on half of ITSOATS) there are plenty of bands whose first few releases (or more) arent that great. People grow as musicians. I mean Im not big into much Deeds of Flesh other than Of whats to come... Kinda the same.

  • @falconer6439 I know bands grow with age, just look at Drudkh. Fact remains though (and I'm assuming that it's Ken that does most of the writing, correct me if I'm wrong), after two albums (maybe 3, if the rest of becoming is like this song) while they are still good I am not sensing any originality. It just seems like they are still resorting to copying other bands that are still better than them. They just aren't bringing anything new to the plate.

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP Playing within a certain genre is not copying anything. I mean unless you can find obscene similarities between thier songs and others, they are just playing within a genre. I mean if you want to take it that far, everyone is copying everyone and new music has no validity. Right?

  • @falconer6439 If they aren't copying then why does this sound exactly like Wolves In The Throne Room? Like it's cool if you get inspiration from a band, just don't write a song that sounds exactly like their music. It doesn't matter how good the song may be, it won't sound original. That's what tons of people below me have been saying as well. And that's what me and everyone else thought when they released ITSOATS and sounded just like Emperor.

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP Okay, I guess they also sound just like Krallice as well. Maybe you arent very familiar with Emperors work but that album sounded nothing like them. I mean if you take that narrow a view (symphony, aggressive tracks, higher pitched vocals=emperor for example) what do you think of new Gorguts, Dysrythmia, and new Electro Quarterstaff? Those all sound the same to you too?

  • @falconer6439 Don't call me out with Emperor. They're one of the bands that got me into black metal, and I've heard every album front to back and I own 4 releases by them. I'm surprised you don't hear it. The structure, the tremolo riffs, the way they use synth to back up the riffs has a resemblance to Emperor's early material. There ARE parts that don't resemble them (the beginning to The Departure is different, and the riffs remind me of Gothenburg Melo-death), they are of few.

  • @falconer6439 Those parts and the fact that the songs are still good are the reason why I like that album, but as a whole it screams Emperor worship. I'm still going to stand behind my opinion. As I said before, I don't sense any originality and therefore (while they are still a good band, I still like their music) I don't hear them bringing anything new to black metal. If you disagree that's fine, but it won't change my opinion.

  • @falconer6439 And to be fair, I won't comment on "The Absence Of Light" because I haven't heard the whole album. Although Infernal Divide did have many riffs that made me think of Dissection but slower.

  • @igotwoodhaha Love that album, and Abigail Williams. But heavier than Emperor? I doubt youll find anyone to take your side on that, even Ken Sorceron. Or youre just not very familiar with Emperor.

  • new leviathan is better

  • @matttluchowski

Well duh. It's better than everything.

  • @matttluchowski Dumb comment.

  • And all music has its influences. Find a band that has no inspiration from whom or what they hear, and you find an uninspired band. Inspiration is not theft, nor is it plagiarism; it is evolution AND creation. Where else but in music can those two concepts be united? A strong gift from AW.

  • @NamkhaWangmo Brilliantly put sir.

  • @NamkhaWangmo or ma'am

  • @NamkhaWangmo Video games.

  • Epic song...AW is the epitome of musical evolution. The band exemplifies the concept of 'survival of the fittest'. Just as in evolution, where a more viable form of anything survives, the changes in AW reflect a new, vital entity built for the future of black metal. Not to evolve is to face certain extinction. (continued)

  • HOLLY FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to see them TODAY!! I can't wait. this is the 1st time hearing this song. but about the 5th time seeing the band.

  • I don't even care what anyone else has to say. If you're a fan of them, so be it. Sure they sound different now. But they're maturing musicians and tuning in on a more definite sound. I'm stoked.

  • I hate how those synths and everything are just thrown in there, it has some nice moments, especially around 3:30, but it appears this won't be a good release. And WITTR are completely different. They're much more cohesive and organic than this.

  • This is awesome!

  • Saw these guys live last night when they opened for Mayhem. They opeened with this song I'm pretty sure. I seriously just stood there transfixed.

  • So fucking raw.

  • The cello sounds fantastic!

  • Sounds good, but I think the production could be better so the instruments are more noticeable than drowned out, but not to clean.

  • What's with this WITTR sounding material. Not that I don't like it, but their previous material was a little more inviting to me. Maybe I should hear the whole release, but I really hope it isn't a disappointment.

  • epicness

  • nice track, I really like their recent style that they've been playing in :)))

  • The New Wolves In The Throne Room

  • @TheButterflyAutopsy Taking the torch of Ambient Black Metal, passed from Wolves In The Throne Room, they now take their place heh someone has to right? It's too good to let go

  • @Dimdez i didn't like this song that much , i prefer to hear that song from the studio update pretty sick

  • this is so freaking cool!! i dont understood why people hate a band who change they music style. they dont understood that every metal band have to change their sound, to grow. and i have to admit, i was like the other fans who prefers the "core" side of Abigail Williams, but no more. their new sound is simply amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • @trace632 "but I'd honestly like there to be more going on than the ringing out of 2 power chords and the occasional tremolo picking." THERE YOU GO.. SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HIS MUSIC... EXACTLY WHAT I SAID A FEW MINUTES AGO... they use like 2 chords throughout the whole piece right? LOL do you think they even need a score sheet for this one? oh amanda, i was hoping she come to her senses and come home by x-mas, but i bet she thinks this is gonna break all the billboard records..she aint budging..

  • LOL I AM LAUGHING BECAUSE THE GIRLFRIEND OF ONE THE DICKHEAD MUSICIANS BLOCKED ME FROM COMMENTING AS IF I WAS GOING TO COMMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE. I AM A MUSICAL COMPOSER. A REAL ONE. AND ANYONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT COMPOSING KNOWS THAT THIS PIECE IS NOT EVEN PLAYED IN A CHORD PROGRESSION...WHAT IS IT? THEY HOLD ONE NOTE FOR THREE MINUTES? I THINK A Bminor bedfore moving up a notch probably to a G SHARP FOR ANOTHER 6 MINUTES? THAT SCORE SHEET MUST BE THE SIZE OF A BUBBLE GUM WRAPPER, GOOD LUCK!!

  • ken sorceron is an awesome vocalist

  • Very great progress Abigail.

  • Very traditional. Very Atmospheric. I love it. I love everything AW has ever put out. Gonna be a great album for sure

  • production sucks... could just be youtube? expected more from what i am hearing.

  • @ibanez47guitarist Nah give it another listen the production definitely is not bad

  • Can't these guys just pick a style and stick to it? It's like they play whatever Terrorizer magazine tells 'em is "tr00" or "kvlt" at the time they record.

  • @lowend365 yeah because this music is totally in style right now

    -not

  • I'm sorry, I'll write a proper response as soon as I'm finished wiping the jizz off my screen. Abigail Williams is my favorite band of all time, most clear and amazing progression of any band so far. I love all their albums and their demo legitimately and not just from being some Sorceron fanboy. Oh, and a Abigail Williams - WITTR split vinyl would make my life complete.
