My mother is obsessed with Damn You Auto Correct, a site extremely similar to the one you mentioned here. She doesn't understand why I can't stand it, but I think you described my reaction pretty well. All I feel when I see sites like that is that most of these people are wasting their lives with petty details. It doesn't bring me joy to watch people fail any more, it just erodes at what little faith I have left in the human spirit.

If I had a device to turn back time, I would turn it back at least 10 million years, to a time where there is a good chance, that humans will never evolve.

I think having a larger perspective can help to curb the ego, and perhaps lessen selfishness, but I believe you are correct in that it won't go away. I know that attempting to comprehend the universe and my position in it has done wonders for my outlook on life and my attitude towards other human beings (all for the better), but at the same time maybe I'm just fucking weird.

I would say no, it would have no effect on people's selfishness, if not it would only increase it, if life is only so short, than why not be as selfish as possible,
