Just wanted you to know that I used your book with my 1st grade class and they loved it!! I used it to introduce a lesson on seeds and this was just perfect!
As one of my projects, it is essential for me to illustrate a children's story. I happened to read
Sid The Seed, and I think its a great story that I would love to illustrate for my project. It would be in the print medium and it is a complete student project and would not be published and made profit of or any such.
Please let me know if I could use the story for my project, with story credits to you ofcourse.
I thought it was adorable! I loved the story and the illustrations were wonderful! And yes, I will admit the full grown tree talking to the same buddies did bother me a bit.....but then I'm an adult doing what adults do and over thinking the whole thing. I think you're absolutely right that if I didn't bat an eye with them all playing cards, why did I question the grown tree? Awesome job!! I sent this to several people I know with young kids. Hopefully, you'll get more feedback.
I am no expert, but a couple of thoughts: Some of the words would be difficult for a younger audience, so check for words that might be beyond the intended grade level; also, the tree grows very quickly compared to reality and yet the spider and butterfly don't age . . . ? Other than that, I was held in suspense wondering what would happen to the seed and thought that overall it was a great concept and story! I will share with some elementary teachers and get their feedback too. Good luck . . .
Someone else asked me about the tree growing up too quick, and that it isn't reality. I said "well is it reality to have a talking seed playing cards with a spider and caterpillar? I thought about the word thing too, then I checked out a bunch of children's books (since I love books) that were published, and they had difficult words too. It's hard when writing a rhyming story, only a few words seem to fit. Thats why I made an audio for it. Very cool.
@rmunyan1 As a first grade teacher, I've read books with words like bantar, prehistoric, pounce, nauseous, difference, etc. You will be surprised what children can understand with a bit of scaffolding.
