Does this remind anyone else of Heavy Metal? How cool would that be, to have a rated R, HM style cartoon set in the Star Wars universe, centered on Bobba Fett?
@EponymousKid Besides Luke's enormous eyeballs, and terrible acting (either overacting or quite simply actors who didn't give a sh*t), yeah its pretty decent.
@DarthRushy You obviously don't know that much about what went on behind the scenes at Lucas film. If you've never heard of this tape then I don't know what to say to you.
Well it is not bad ... but it is not good....... eehhh does anyone else like this bobba fett design! Because that one is better then the new one that is what i think! ...
@WarOfSalvation In the expanded universe. Now, there's two universes, the expanded and the movie universe. Lots of people don't consider the expanded universe to be canon but I consider it canon. :D
@c4r50n1 The reason people don't consider it canon, is because it "isn't a movie". But still, the expanded universe makes sense, so why not make it part of the movies. I mean, this cartoon right here is Expanded Universe, and if people take this as part of the movies, but not anything else, then like I said, it's just because they're too lazy to read a book or comic.
@c4r50n1 For most people, they define non canon mostly as things they personally don't like in franchises. The EU is just an extension of Star Wars. By my reckoning and preference, this cartoon segment is the ONLY part of the Holiday Special that deserves to be canon. I have an old Star Wars book that makes mention of Luke's first encounter with Boba being on a moon in the Panna system where Boba almost tricked him into revealing the location of the rebel base. So yeah, this is definitely canon.
A couple people have asked, so I wanted to point out. Boba Fett -is- human. The reason he can't contract the disease is because of the filtering system in his suit.
@Kelly14UK , no you retarded idiot. This animation was done in the style that was predominate in the late 1970s. go back to reading your naruto manga you artistically challenged simpleton.
@TheKaiTik , Boba Fett is an unaltered clone of Jango Fett. It was written for Boba to be more of a son rather than a clone, but in a way they are the same.
I wish George Lucas had released this in the recent release of star wars. (not the whole special, just this sequence.) He'd probably have the dude who played Jango Fett re-record Boba Fett's lines.
Luke Skywalker in a two-person Y-Wing instead of his better equipped and faster X-Wing? Wow... And the Y-Wing was able to catch up to the Millennium Falcon? Double Wow...
Gah, and I thought the live action special this was attached to was bad... Animation style was kinda European animation, but then I was it was done by Nelvanna. Yes, the "Care Bears" movies studio, but also a much better thing called "Rock and Rule". And who did the style sheet for Han Solo? Also a lame intro for the Bobba Fett character.
The first time I saw this was back during Christmas week 1978 when I was in kindergarden(it was never aired again on tv in the State I live in.1st time in 33 years now).
This is a Nelvana cartoon. There is a scene where Boba Fett is searching for the serum, and you see two of the floating android ball thingies from A Cosmic Christmas fly by. Cool tie in...
This cartoon is the only un-ironically good part of the Holiday Special. It looks like a heavily stylized underground comic, heck, Leia looks kinda animeish at times even.
If this was meant to be cheap animation, it would have looked like a typical generic Filmation or Hanna-Barbera '70s cartoon...but it doesn't.
The animation has a Heavy Metal look to it. Lucas should just lighten up and let this be officially released with the entire special. I mean it's part of the original Star Wars history.
I'm sorry, but when I hear Mark Hamill voice a cartoon I expect either the joker or firelord ozai.
nah jk. One of the few good bits from that horrible christmas special. Which they'd at least put this cartoon on some bonus features to a dvd or something.
you're probably right (until this afternoon I knew nothing about a a SW hs), but I think that the entire animation segment is absolutely not that bad; it's different than usual mainstream American animation
The younger generation is unfamiliar with "Holiday specials" & "Variety" shows. Today, there is really nothing to compare them to. On my copy of SW Holiday Special, I have dubbed in some 70's commercials in appropriate places. SW toys, & Atari 2600 commercials. Even a 70's era "local news update". It's great for a 70's-Fest. I watch it & All in the Family, play a little Atari or Intellivision, then watch an era appropriate movie. All on an a vintage 1970's, 25in RCA "Console" TV set. :-)
It's not the greatest of animation but it still has class & style. At least it's real animation & not BORING CG. And to the idiot who left the comment calling this 'gay'...you're just another souless little trend whore that thinks all animation began with crap looking CGI which is the queerest thing going. CBS played this up for 3-4 weeks before it aired. I have to tell you I almost exploded from the anticipation. Frankly, every 7 year old did. Star Wars was so overwhelmingly powerful in the box office that it was STILL playing, almost a year later in some second-run theatres. We couldn't get enough of anything Star Wars related, and CBS leveraged a lot of cash and influence to get the original voice actors involved. But yes, this has strangely been lost to history except to buffs.
I was around 17 when Star Wars hit the theaters. I still have all my SW stuff. A ton of bubble gum cards, posters, magazines, articles, newspaper clippings. Every once in a while I dig it all out and look at them. WOW... I, too remember this show and just for shits and giggles typed it in and lo and behold! there it was. I could not believe it...
wow that's really interesting stuff. i thought they sounded like the real actors. ive been a star wars fan since i was little and i must salute you being a veteran of those times!
Boba Fett was a clone of Jango Fett; he made his first appearance as a 10-year-old boy in "Episode 2: Attack of the Clones". He next appeared as a full-grown adult in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
Does this remind anyone else of Heavy Metal? How cool would that be, to have a rated R, HM style cartoon set in the Star Wars universe, centered on Bobba Fett?

These are the facts i have gathered.
- Boba Fett is amazing
-Han Solo is asian...and a horse
-R2 is rubber
-Luke looks like a thunder cats rip off.
-3P0 is STILL gay
- 6:03 the Olsen twins are there
-Boba Fett is fucking AWESOME

Boba Fett was a clone of Jango Fett; he made his first appearance as a 10-year-old boy in "Episode 2: Attack of the Clones". He next appeared as a full-grown adult in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
