Why all those comparisons with Pavarotti and Bocelli. Both Pavarotti and Bocelli only sung opera (they are known for singing opera) and they are experts on it, they had formation and vocal coaches... makes no sense! you can compare Pavarotti and Bocelli, not Martel and them...

@SleeperInTheShadow I agree that Jussi's rendition is the standard and that Pavarotti is overdone, but there is something to be said for a standard classical rendition that's non-operatic. Look for Aretha Franklin's rendition at the 1998 Grammy's and that in its own right is an awe inspiring rendition -- not correct Italian -- but the emotion comes across like a huge wave.

For those opera purists who are saying this isn't opera, you can't deny that this man has a voice talent that is incredibly versatile, virtually pitch-perfect, and a true pleasure to listen to. Singing "technique" isn't what matters here. It's the simple fact that his singing is captivating and people want to hear more of it from him that matters. I'd say that 935 likes and 6 dislikes is evidence of a ringing endorsement.

Exactly. Marc never pretended to be an opera singer, nor did he say that his rendition is particularly operatic. He was humble enough to shape the song for his voice and limitations, i.e. changing the final note from B to B flat. And the final result was his own take on the song; it was not a copy of anyone, nor was it second rate opera. As such, it was a great job.
