You still need to be smart enough to spot the good suppliers. There are many ways to protect yourself. Banks are ideal in this situation. If a supplier doesn't offer you terms that seem fair and trustworthy, then go elsewhere. Also, I have heard stories about unethical western customers: it's two ways.
