And if Michael Bay had spent less time polishing the US Army's knob and more on the giant robots that the movies were named for, we might have even been sympathetic to Sentinel.

Sentinel was obviously a fine warrior and an ambitious homesick war veteran. But his means were to be gained through the sacrifice of humanly life, which is of course something Optimus deems more important than reviving his home.
