I have the RCA set of Aida with Pertile as Rhadames. I was in my early teens and loved it - and especially his voice. So glad to find it again on Youtube.
I first heard him in Aida on an old Victor record when I was a teenager - and was entranced. I still have the album but can't play it - glad to have this. Thanks.
Grande Pertile!
Franco Corelli worshiped at Pertile's feet! This must have been one of the finest operatic singers of all time. He conveyed every emotion with his voice, & was also a fabulous teacher.
One of his students, the exquisite Romanian soprano, Virginia Zeani, carried on his vocal tradition. At age 21, Zeani studied under Pertile, and had two outstanding careers; one as Prima Donna Assoluta of Rome Opera, then as Distinguished Professor at Indiana University's School of Music.
I agree with you! I am absolutely stunned by Pertile's moving interpretation! And I can imagine Corelli idolizing him! And how lucky we are that the great Mme Zeani was his pupil!
Yes, I can most definitely understand why Corelli would have quit formal instruction (which he felt was ruining him) and instead learned from Aureliano Pertile recordings (among others).
Aureliano Pertile was obviously terrific; while I do listen to Classical Music (I prefer The Symphony with opera being sort of "on the side") his greatness is undeniable.
And yes, as little as I know about opera, Corelli is my my favorite tenor.
Initially, Mme Zeani said, she simply sat in a corner, quiet as a mouse while he coached others, and listened to everything he said, then went off to practice, practice, practice! Finally, he took her as a student, but was too ill to attend her debut in Traviata! Tragic!!!
Una voz poderosa, igual en toda su extension, sin fisuras y con ataques firmes y directos, sin portamentos. Quiza, un poco ruda de expresión pero muy brillante. Un tenor "heroico" a ser escuchado con gran placer y respeto. A powerful voice, sounding equally in all the extension, with direct and firm note attacks and no portament. Perhaps sounding a little "harsh" in expression but definitively brilliant.
An heroic tenor to be listened with great pleasure and respect.
Extraordinario!!!!!! Bravo!!!

Pertile was certainly a major-league spinto-dramatic tenor, whom we would be very, very happy to be singing today:) --

super i can t believe that he had not high c
wiswert 3 years ago
He doesn't need the High C for this aria. It's not written.
lavoreano 3 years ago 2
of course i know about this aria i said about his diaposon
wiswert 3 years ago
There are no high C in Radames role only B-flats but that don´t make the role simple in any way! Pertile sings the aria absolutely splendid
Bjoerrelli 2 years ago 3
Definitely, Pertile had a high C!
