Yes, the economy always gets to musicians. My Dad used to tell me stories of musicians during the depression. His band actually were paid very little to do so, but the actually performed on the street to draw busines into the clubs. Weird.
@dumas1983 Yeah, that is my story in a nutshell where I live at now. There's little to no jazz venue's here, so to gig and play what I want, I just play solo (no one will pay for 2 or 3), and go and talk to Bar, Cafe and Coffee Shop owners.
There are plenty of good/great players around here, but not so many get work doing anything Jazz-like.
A lot of this may be the timing:: When I started learning this stuff there were no cover charges in clubs, well, just a different time and feel.
