  • Its an hy35, them things don't run cold!! There to small. You should've bought a used hx35 and rebuilt that. You would've been way ahead of the game and its a direct swap!

  • what a douche introduction

  • There is a awesome Holset turbo shirt on IBurnClothing. As for me, my greddy is fine for now. Holset, yay!

  • when you took it apart did you make a mark where the compressor wheel is placed on the shaft? if not later on down the road look forward to replacing them again sense it will be out of balance...

  • yes I did after that turbo. I've learned.

  • lol thats good

  • watch that video and read the description. also, where are you getting your feed from? you must not take it from the head, the head runs lower pressure than the block. if you took it from the head AND used a restrictor, thats a sure death setup... good luck.

  • Hi, firstly, your videos always crack me up :-) secondly, there are two reasons that your lovely holset could have shat its pants on your, number one as noted is hot shutdowns, however, number two is an oil restrictor. unless your engine is pushing silly high pressures, you don't need one, and it will starve the turbo's bearings under heavy load and high compressor/turbine speed.

  • it is a journal bearing turbo... a restrictor is not exactly needed... some do some dont.. but journal bearings need a lot more oil than ball bearing..

  • hi, i wanna know the number, please help me .

  • search e-bay for holset turbo

  • I can't tell a difference from then and now. It spools perfect.

  • Looking at your shaft & coked journal beraings, it looks like too many hot shutdowns. Idling your engine for a few mins will help. One thing...how well matched is your turbo to your engine? A couple of useful snippets...the thing at 2.58 is an oil seal plate, the thing at 3.03 is an oil baffle (directs oil away from seal and back into bearing housing), the thing at 3.12 is a thrust bearing and the seal at 3.22 is a piston ring - or split ring seal. Hope that helped - and be nice to that turbo!

  • Thanks for the info.

  • You're welcome. You seem interested so I guess I waffled on a bit....oops!

  • no no, it was great. I was nervous taking it apart. I looked at all the internet pics of turbos I could find so I would be ready for what was inside. It works great now. No smoking, and I'm looking for a Greddy turbo timer as we speak. No more hot shut offs for me!

  • LOL - they made me nervous too when I first started working with them....soooooo many components to figure out where they go. Sounds like you got it back together and working ok though. I am curious though - how well does it run with it not being re-balanced?

  • its cause the turbo is still spinning when you shut the engine off. there fore the oil isnt recirculating to the bearings in the turbo..

htere for the smoking and the crapped out bearings..

im interested in buying this turbo and i think im gonna. and get the rebuild kit.. i mean its so cheap

  • but like i have a holset hx 35 on my sunbird ran 12.71 @ 117 mph 19 lbs boost and havent realy had any problems and my turbo had 600 000 kms on it. but i take it easy just before i shut it off

  • good to see it works i have a kit just in case mine starts to smoke.

  • Hmmmmmmm, I never thought of that?

  • Hey mate,

I run MS1 2.2 with MSNS-E code on my turbo 240 (Volvo) and as of yet I don't believe they have a turbo timer type jig in the stock code. However, i'm sure one can rig up something, or a group of people can be had to come up with that.

A turbo timer integrated to the code would be lovely. would probably require some wiring changes though.

    Its a great idea :)

  • I wonder if the megasquirt could be used as a turbo timer? save extra wiring maybe a program change
