What's wrong with all these people saying this is not a real fight because they go for points and not for damage?!
It's true that originally these martial arts were used in real fights and wars. But today they are a sport. It's no longer about killing your enemy. It's about testing your strenght and technique against others and learning about discipline. I do kendo and believe me, no-one would like to fight with actual swords. And besides... they used protection and points even in the old days.
wow, war-time karate still exists!!! I think this style poses the same issues as traditional schools and TKD do. The effectiveness of their techniques is measured by 3rd person's assumptions, not actual damage. You don't know how much a strike hurts unless you take it on your body.
650sFinnest you are correct, there is no bad Martial Arts style, only bad Martial Artists. It all depends on how you use it. And Ander, there's a lot of waiting because it's a tournament and they are fighting for points, not damage. If this was real life fighting it would be MUCH different.
@Arbiter366 Haha indeed. I actually lost my 2nd fight because I did not "pause" after my initial attack. In other words, I should believe in my first strike and make it clean, instead of rushing in with combos and following up. Afterward, the judge told me that I needed my attacks to be cleaner and retract more to the the attack count. All I could really do was laugh it off.
To the man talking about how awesome wrestling is - No disrespect to wrestling, I have nothing against it, but if you're going to sit there and talk about how you're going to dominate us with that shit, you just go ahead and try to put me into submission while I show you every pressure point on your body, gouge out your eyes, throw you in every direction imaginable, oh, and punch you in the throat. Don't underestimate anyone, and sure as HELL don't underestimate a martial artist..
@Arbiter366 hey wise upp i no alot of pressure points and i dont do karate there is a kid in my class and he does karate and i can punch his head in so dont act hard
Excuse me? Lol you're gonna talk trash to me because some random kid in your "class" does karate? Lol you should learn some respect. I'm not hard, I'm respectful and intelligent. Anyone can get beat if they don't know what they're doing. Don't come talk trash to me because some random nothing that you know does Karate.
yeah but think about it if you were on the streets and some guy wanted to fight you we would win wrestling is all submissions we do punches kicks and submissions so yeah
point SPARRING in any TMA is for wimps. I don't call it point fighting because that is an oxymoron. The purpose of fighting is to knock the other person out not to win on points.
Your argument, although I can see where you are coming from, is meaningliness. It is like watching a baseball game and saying, "THATS NOT HOW YOU PLAY SOCCER!!!" and getting all upset about it. Full contact fighting and point fighting are just DIFFERENT sports. Sure, a point fighter might not be good at full contact, but a full contact fighter might not be good at point fighting. Whether or not the point fighter can survive a real fight, is just a different matter, nothing to do with thesport
to better the technique yet point sparring limits hits into certain parts of the body. in full contact, the entire body is at disposal in every way, less constricted. its too late for me to try point sparring, but if i did, id want to get a bit of full contact outside of it, for freedom of style, open mind, to know certain limits and when not to cross them. good energy for turbodragn, bravo.
this seems like a sport for whimps who wanna feel like they're good at fighting because they can kick their legs in cool motions and they wear tons of padding so nothing hurts
Lol I see. Well to be honest, this is not my preferred fighting style. I was invited to join the team by a friend, and agreed.
I usually did Seidokaikan and Kyokushin (until my knee acted up again). Now, if you say those fighting styles are for wimps, then you have some serious mental problems.
those fighting styles are 4 wimps real fighters fight in ufc jujitsu muay thai karate is overrated bullshit the jujitsu guy would take karATE GUY TO GROUND AND CHOKE HIM THE FUCK OUT
ummm I am a mma fighter myself and the first martial arts i ever learned was kungfu and i believe all martial arts are deadly and it depends on the fighter not the style
a little while back, we had a JKD know-it-all come into our class. he wanted to see how good we were (he wanted to fight us). so we put him into the bogu gear. he was never able to close the distance. we ate him alive with really nothing more then front kicks. at one point, we kicked him so hard that the face mask turned sideways LOL. I know this isn't something I should be happy about, but it really fun
in response to Stefanoitch...You go fight bogu and tell me how you feel after a match. Renshinkan Shorinji Ryu is one of the oldest fighting styles that date back to the time of Samurai. We fight hard with non-forgiving technique. So i'd love to see you in a fight with a Shorinji and then tell me if its ridiculous or not.
learn to read comments. It was my first time wearing the gear, and I needed to find out what movements I was limited to. In addition, I had never seen my oponent before either, thus I wanted to see what types of things he would react to.
I love this video. I guess those are the same Boogutsuki rules that we have in our kokusai shorinjiruy. Watch my video also, its not near that class but its a fun video too. We have the same spin as you had in 00:28 and the match ends pretty much the same way. Spooky :D.
Well, it was my first time wearing that gear. I am used to both regular point fighting (gloves and feet gear only), and full contact w/o gear (kyokushin / seidokaikan). But for this tournament I had to fight according to their rules. I was a bit nervous at the beginning, so threw a few distance testing moves, and a few kicks to see how much movement I had to work with concerning the chest protector and head gear.
I weigh over 200 pounds and am 6 feet tall. Don't know any martial arts but come take me on. Guarantee you couldn't take me down. and just calm down. I agree that the one guy was fast in the two blocks he made. And the other guy did a nice round house. Other than that it looks like they were exhausted. But I don't like tourneys anyway. As soon as you move in its like no no no illegal strike bla bla bla. All the training you got goes almost nowhere.
I love this, strikes to the head, and they move like a karateka would in a real fight. the tsuki to the head while the opponent was rushing in, would have been a clear knockout! :) Cool style, didn`t know it existed! I saw som standing joint manipulation techniques in another vid, and that further improves my wiev on this art. :)
Yeah, that is precisely the reason why I wasnt a big fan of how the scoring was done. I am used to either pure point karate (NASKA, NBL, SKITA) or I am used to Seidokaikan/ Kyokushin karate where you stay at close range and beat the crap out of each other until someone's muscles finally give out.
what kind of karate is this? clean cut in kendo is understandable cause it means instant death if a katana is used. but clean hit with a fist doesnt mean anything unless the opponest lay flat on the ground
Hey this is nice...I'm a Shorinji Ryu Renshinkan practicioner as well and would like to talk to you if you can. My e-mail is pnunez18@hotmail.com...thanx and keep the good work

It does when the sport advertises itself as a method of self defense, when in reality you have virtually no practical use for the skills learned.
