"FE" is an engine family of fords that include engines from the 50's through 1976. The 390 is in the FE engine family along with the 428, 427, 360 etc... Get your facts straight. The abreviation for Fuel Injection is EFI.
@1980f250man False. There is no such thing as "IFE". It's called EFI and stands for Electronically Fuel Injected. And for future referance, "Injected" doesnt start with "E" so "IFE" has no meaning
I'd guess that it would want the extra cfm from the 750. I had the same mufflers on my 86 F250. Sounded very similar. Love the X pipe. Did you use Summit's kit for that? Yours seems to have great response, too. What ignition? I was going to use the Pertonix setup on mine.
The X pipe I built myself at a buddys exhaust shop, was kind of a pain in the ass but turned out really trick. I am using MSD ignition with their 6AL box. I think with a proper carb it should have better throttle response.
Thanks for the comment! Right now it has a 625 Demon on it that I have but I will probably switch it for a 750 dbl pumper in the spring. On the exhaust its 1 3/4" long tube headers into 2 1/2" pipe with a custom X pipe into Summit fully welded mufflers and 4" tips. The engine does pull really well, the cam uses dual valve springs that you have to break the cam in on the regular ones then install the second one. I havent installed the second one yet so I havent run it past 5500.
Once again, I sit here listening to that beautiful sound after work...I should be driving home now...Hey, thanks for the reply. Sounds like you've built the engine that I plan on building. LOVE the response! Running a Holley? And that exhaust note is what I'm aiming for, too. What mufflers/pipe are you running? Using a crossover? Sounds great!!!
I'm building a 390 for my 65 F100, and chose a Comp Cams 280H. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 292H. What compression are you using? What intake? Were you able to use the stock rockers? I'm building a 10.5:1 short block with a Edelbrock Dualplane intake, Holley 600 and headers. Just curious. Sounds GREAT!!!
I am running right at 10:1 and have a performer RPM intake and am using the factory rocker arms. FE's dont like allot of compression because of the poor combustion chamber. If you get your quence right then you can run more compression. You want .040 quence for best results. And thanks for the comment!
I like the 390 FEs, they're great.
