  • Yes WHY add to the sonic potential of any given instrument. Why not simply use an effect+box, or better yet just an unbent box, or better yet a single sample, or better yet a single drum or better yet just your hands, or better yet just make a single sound consisting of white noise, or better yet make no sound at all. Seriously, this wanton hatred for bending must be the most stupid nonsense since people claimed electronics couldn't be used for musical purposes.

  • Its like drum and bass for aliens.

  • great piece, enjoyed it. well done. thanks.

  • This is one of the funkier bends I've seen so far!

  • I think this is the best bend ive seen yet!

  • Im sure that was so worth the time of altering the machine

  • I like that man. Makes me move..

  • amaging!!

    like TR-707 mutation drummachine!!

  • The tr 505 this was the drum machine we had at school, did my first ever 4 trACK RECORDING WITH IT, ahhhhh memories

  • tr 505 is a VERY VERY good machine.

i would love to have one...

i have it on SAMPLER... not bad either.

if you go on my channel, one track uses

the TR505, its called ' The Ticket '

    CHECK it !!!!!!!!!!

  • @eldorado303 can buy mine if you like haha - £30 plus postage and its yours, peace krausey

  • @Kr4us3y not being funny; I will give it some thought and let you know. thank you!!! have a great day!

  • I think that you actually made it BETTER by doing that =P

  • I know this song...

Hey mickey your so fine your so fine you blow my mind

  • your kick should play in unison with the crash.

  • coulda had a rawer drum loop

  • Nice work man. I got a lot out of watching this. :)

  • tojomico I want to grow up just to be like you!

  • It's called experimentation, if you're not interested move on to the next project. I always say try circuit bending. If you don't like it, then move one but at least you will have tried! Same goes for everything...

  • man you gashed that up... You must of spent ages doing that...why not just connect it to a bit crusher to get the same effect?

  • Well, that would defeat the purpose of circuit bending wouldn't it? Faster isn't better.

  • Hmm ok, i fail to see the logic

  • It really isn't about logic. Circuit bending isn't about taking a logical approach to creating music. It's an artistic approach. One that often yields results viewed as useless by people that don't understand the need.

  • where's all your circuit bent music then?

  • What difference does that make? whether or not I have used circuit bending is irrelevant. I understand it's purpose. It's like looking at abstract art and appreciating it. I don't need to create it to understand it. Don't take me too seriously. My opinion is just different than yours.

  • lol u missed the point

  • where you find this?

  • Take a shitty drum machine, add a little creative switching and - BOOM - it's useful again!

    Re-cycling at it's most satisfying. . .

  • some of it sounded pretty interesting and useful. most sounded like garbage. such is the case with pretty much every circuit bent device.

  • candle wax o nmy speak & spell .and it says "fat pancakes ..ollyknocker foo"

  • this video doesnt impress me, but concidering the nice bending you've done does.

i believe that theres lots more potential in that box after you screwed around with it, its jsut too bad that its not getting shown in the video.

care to send one of those machines to me? (A)

  • Not impressed...at all.

  • Great textured and minimal drumt. The tr-505 is a great project and has loads of potential.

  • mate that thing is knackered

  • knackered........ This is the best comment I have heard in years. Well done mate, hehehe :):):) Peace

  • this is greate :D:D:D

  • NO YOU!

  • best answer ever

  • YES! I AGREE!

  • How does that make sense?

  • this is the beat to " hey mickey your so fine your so fine you blow my mind"

  • at 3:00 it gets grand. tried to Cbend my mc505 and fooked it majorly

  • love it. is it possible to send me a photo of the bends you found. i want to bend one but im afraid of distroying it.

  • Impressive, finally a circuit bending project on a worthy piece of equipment. I'd love to hear that detailed blog, as well as any music you've recorded with the machine.

  • I think if you turn off the bending switches it returns to normal operation. So you get two toys out of one, bonus!

  • you are a stick in the mud

    noo pain no gain

  • 1.dont go all txt tlk with me m8(what ever that even means)

    2. to each his or her own it sounds like crap to you but to tojomico it sounds like a chorus of angels. a chorus of angels singing a chunky as hell hip hop beat

    smusic man

  • wow nice retarded gay comment, die now.

  • It's for noise music. It's not everybody's cup of tea but it has its merit.

  • Because it presents new and interesting ideas, often beyond even human imagination, as opposed to the same old shit over and over and over again.

  • @BenJacklin

but you heard one you heard em all. you can record samples of static, load them into a sampler and you get the same effect.

  • @TRaddcliff It's the journey not the destination.

  • @myguitardidyermom12 fair enough!

  • @BenJacklin Are you saying this is the music of the future

  • Read The Art of Noises by Luigi Russolo.

  • It's fun and interesting to tweak with electronics. That's how they got made in the first place...experimenting, right?

  • And why do people post shit like you?? Dumb fuck!!

  • 5:15 - 5:23 makes me very happy.

  • 2:05 fucking love the beat going on XD

  • Sounds great (in places at least) but is it plugged into the mains?

I was thinking of bending my Roland R-5, but I really don't want to fuck with anything that requires more than a couple of batteries to run.

  • I bent and old TV, I grabbed the anodes on the CRT and blew my arms off!

  • this literally made me fucking laugh out loud.

  • ?????? I don't get it. It sounded great before you plugged in the cords then it got quiet and sucked.. Am I missing something? Sounds to me like you broke it!

  • google "circuit bending" and see what it actually means before you post dumb comments.

  • U R FUNNY

  • its sonic art! search the anti-theory or Reed Ghazala

  • puffff!!!

  • Could make some sick breaks with that

  • Fuck the purists. This sounds fucking incredible.

  • Why put this on???...it sounds shit!!!

  • i you add it up with the tb-303, its only drum sounds on this one.

  • lol

  • i know. being an emo retard is wayyyy cooler!

  • cool tricks don't make up for bad drum programming.

  • too true

  • best. comment. ever.

  • what a waste of fucking time.... sounds shite

  • main advantage i see to bending is obviously for the textile approach. in reality all you need is comp software with filters and you get the same results by tweaking the frequencys. much less charming tho.

  • sipmily nice

  • Its nice to breathe new life into an otherwise tired machine

  • lol shyt

  • Cool!! Did you you circuit bend that your self?

  • this video wasn't made to convince you to circuit bend, it was made to demonstrate what could happen if you try it. if you find it unhelpful move on to another video, you horse's ass.

  • i just dont see whats so good about it, i mean wats he doing apart from pluggin in a wire and unplugging another?? wheres the skill/talent? someone enlighten me.

  • he(or someone else) had the skill/talent to crack open that machine and rewire it so that you could screw with parameters that didnt come with the machine originally, in other words, hes creating sounds that you cant make with a stock 505

  • The skill resides in that someone opened up the drummachine, put a cable between two points when the machine was playing. This gave him a way to tweak the machine in a way that wasn't ment in the first place. And he did this without knowing what he was doing. That's the skill.

  • Once he found two points giving an intresting result he then marked the points with a color pencil or so.

  • When he got all the 16 connections marked he took the contactboard and mounted it on the drummachines top. He drilled holes for the cables to pass thru, he added a switchboard as you can see far to the right giving some on/off switches to some other parameters he marked.

  • Once this was done he started connecting from the marked spots on the cicuitboard to the contactboard tiny cables one at the time. When all was connected he screwed the contactboard secured to the lid and screwed the drummachine together. So what you see is just the drummachine, but inside it there is more than 50 hours (I guess) of hard work. He didn't know from the start, but he plotted the map on the way as he progressed with bending the drummachine Roland TR505.

  • Oh, I REALLY, REALLY hope you try rewiring your guitar amp, buddy.

    BOOM!

  • this is much more controlled than some of the stuff i've seen(heard) bent..this is down right musical, in a good way :)

  • Fuck yeah! It doesn't sound shit like a real drummer neither!

  • at least the 505 will show up for band practice on time hehe

  • since when were electronically created beats supposed to sound like a real drummer.

you should try knowing what you're talking about before you insult it.

    fxcking gearhead.

  • it doesn't sound like shit. when you want something to sound like real drums, USE REAL DRUMS. this is for electronic music.

  • Ermm, perhaps my sarcasm was too subtle? Joke Joyce, relax...

  • ohh sorry, i didn't realize

    forgive my incompetence

  • I WANT ONE!!

  • Awesome!!

  • Nice vid. Electric music is here to stay. If u like glitch and experimental electronic music and film, check out my vids and tell me what u think, all help is appreciated.

  • ok, nice. But for a proper video you probably want to pull out a few more stops. There's some lengthy gaps where not a lot happens.

  • I bought a broken 505 on ebay one time for cheap (the kick or the snare was busted) with the intentions of bending it. . . 15 minutes later I fried the main sounds chip so it was pretty much worthless :p I guess it coulda been a more expensive process. . . Love the patch cords.

  • what´s the url of your blog?

  • love the sounds!!

  • The first drum machine I ever bought. It was'nt a circuit bent though.

  • Aphex Twin was one of the first people to actually bring this type of hardware malfunctioning into the mainstream, hence why the noises sound very Autechreish.. . ha

  • I find this interesting based on circuit bending alone, but some of these sounds sound a bit autechre-ish. Cool!

  • you a beginner at bending?

  • should that be called music?

  • the first 3 min of this vid were pretty boring but i thought it really picked up after that. Nice work, looks really clean.

  • I don't find it boring at all... good stuff my man.

  • Where are your additions/modifications?

  • that's not even real curcuit bent, it's just changing your machine a bit..

  • Kinda boring man...but I severely want a 505 period

  • Wow...never seen a guy get a period, let alone a 505 period.

  • u suck at circuit bendin

  • you could do this just resampling in a lower bit rate..(!?)

  • circuit bending rarely produces a nice usable sound, just lots of chod fodder

  • Exactly. No matter what item is circuit bent, it always sounds the same.

Might aswell just run samples through a bit crusher.

    Yawn

  • I tend to sample the sounds from bent devices anyways..What I do with them from that point on goes into actual music.

Simply bending a device and playing the sounds back isn't playing an instrument...Kinda like abstract expressionist art...There needs to actually be some kind of product..the act of bending is not art but rather a tool.

  • Glyvxx,

This is my perspective on it exactly. I'm just starting to get into bending myself (well, I haven't actually bent anything yet)and that's how I plan on utilizing it into any compositions I think it might fit.

  • very very interesting....I almost want to do something to my 505! Ever since I sampled it I hardly ever use it....

  • its a rebuilt 505

  • whats that??? thats boring :(

  • why ??

  • muska beats lol tailslide wilshire

  • W T F

  • this is a nice display of what you can do bending. the 505 was a beast.

  • THIS IS BORING... i prefer the Creative Chinese :)

  • me too ever seen the advert of it here??? funny

  • looks awsome. im bending one myself, ill have vids up soon

  • cool! I ilook forward to seeing it.

  • i could do better than that..

  • then fucking do better than that.

  • yeah, mother fucker. this shit ain't easy.

  • That Definately Got Good After A While! Good Stuff Bro

  • that is kick ass.

  • For awhile folks couldn't give these thinga away.

Now that people bending them, you can find one for cheap anywhere.

I wish I never sold mine.

    IGOR

    P.s AWESOME BEND JOB.

  • Nice! What's your website?
