  • UNSCREW THE NIPPLE!!!

  • wow so loud in the background. you should have just filmed it and then overdubbed the voice commentary later on.

  • You star guy! Worked great for me, saved a trip to the shop, cheated a bit, used the brake blocks as the guide and left the wheel on the upside down bike. Thanks from the UK

  • @will0lloyd Anything that works is not cheating bro. Good show. :)

  • thanks Gerry, I just got a new bike and feel the wheels aren't right and I've had bad experience of damaging wheels before so didn't want to ride before getting it sorted.

Going to get myself a spoke key today and some other bits n' bobs. :)

  • @javacofe Good Luck. Just remember practice makes perfect.

    Gerry :)

  • Are you in the middle of a freeway?

  • @ospTube Almost, I live next to a busy 2 lane boulevard.

  • that's not bike man!

  • Thanks buddy!

  • Why did he take the tyre off ?

  • I have to true it not left and right, but the wheel is wobbling up and down... The part that is wobbling lower is already super tight, so how the fuck do I fix that...

  • @IIIIAnonymousIIII Go on the opposite side of the wheel at that spot and slack the same number of spokes you have tightened on the other side.

  • @IIIIAnonymousIIII

Yep, probably the spokes on the opposite side are tight too and the other side goes lower as well, or not?

  • Great videos, very helpful. A better camera and more thought into the location (i.e. a quiet one) would make these so much better.

  • i have rim that i tightin up to much its bent what do i do now do i just buy another on or can its be fix

  • @Tessier1234 Sad to say but I would start from scratch with the same rim.

    Gerry

  • Next time, you should go and stand out by the freeway for maximum audio quality!

  • @flipwiggins

Way to steal someone elses joke....

  • man to many commercials now on utube' need more control

  • ha ha you had to twist and turn the nipple

  • i like this guy..nohomo

  • I true my wheels with my DR.MARTENS!

  • do i really must buy that support thing?

  • Huh, when my sister ran over my bike i just set the wheel on a block and put my weight on it to bend it back, it was just a pos next bike though.

  • @NathansBackwoods I did that myself on a few occasions. It's not perfect, but it will get you going.

    Gerry :)

  • could you maybe have gone INDOORS so there wasn't a lot of traffic noise?

  • I would recommend you dont buy a wrench like that one. It only supports the nipple on two sides and can round it off quicker. Get one which contacts the spoke nipple on 3 or 4 sides. I always loose the right size on those things anyway.

  • @pfortsa That's a valid argument. Thanks for posting.

    Gerry :)

  • I have the same spoke wrench, it works great. Nice video!

  • thanks man

  • How bout take off all the spokes and then flatten the rim with weights?

  • lol unscrew the nipple

  • could a broken rear axis be fixed without the change of the whole wheel ??!!!

I bought a used bike without knowing that a shaky wheel basically means broken axis !!! :'(

I bought it for 100$ and changing the wheel will cost alone 100$ !!! :(

If u have any idea please share with me.

  • @euyooo

    sorry I mean axle !!

  • @euyooo yes you can replace just about every piece on your bike but first you wanna make sure that it is only the axle thats broken or bent then when you get the piece(s) you need if you know how to put it together do so if not have someone install it because a new part does you no good if its not properly installed best of luck

  • @180flatland

the mechanic jut straighten the axle up and tightened it and that's it working fine !!!

am going to but a new bike anyway and I'll sell this one

  • I found this really helpful, thanks.

I Wonder if I could knock up a similar jig from an old pair of forks & a G-clamp (The safe money is on No).

  • you don'r need to take off the tyre and tube!!!!!!

  • @endrachwer If you want to do a proper job, yes.

    Gerry :)

  • Must be the brick wall reflecting all the noise

  • Cool but why didn't you just film this out in the middle of the Interstate,I think it would have been quieter

  • i was going to say that was a rude comment, but you're right it's loud as hell.

  • @audifan67 It was not an option at the time.

  • @audifan67 Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure I do next time.

  • Some important details when using the tool can not be seen or the video is cut right to the point. Maybe a longer more detailed video would have been better for everyone..kind of got the idea though

  • omg i took all the spokes out of two bmx wheels, sprayed on flourecent pink, and the other glow in the dark yellow. the spray jobs wer perfect, and the rims look imcredible. but i have no idea how to true the wheel. no offence but this video made it no more clearer as what i need to do. PLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME.

  • @emgreglol just take it to your local bike shop and they will do it for your

  • how do u tru the rim ,if it has a hump????

  • with a big hammer

  • you can tell when the traffic lights change ha. I would love to be able to do this but its quite hard really and I've totally screwed it up before :(

  • Very informative video, but noisy.

  • you don't have to take the bike wheel off...

  • If you want to do a good job, then yes you should.

  • you are right. i only eyeball the rim over the brake pads. iv just done a full truing on my rear wheel. full i say coz i changed all the spokes on one of the wheel`s side.

  • Both. :)

  • ok thanx

  • so is this for rims that have been bent because of rough usage or just mistakes in lacing the spokes to the rim?

  • It's for when your wheel isn't spinning straight anymore.

  • lol yeah i knew that...

  • yeah would be awesome to get an opinion on straightening/fixing an egg shaped wheel haha.

Mine has a bump/hump in it.

It is on an electric hub wheel, so I would love to learn how to fix it myself if possible.

Great job with your other video. Your accent is pretty cool.

  • Good video, shame about it being next to the road.

  • wat do u call that tool u used to hold the rim tight?

  • I'll admit that it's not the most ergonomic, but it has the advantage of having all the spoke sizes right there on one tool.

    Gerry :)

  • worst spoke wrench ever.

  • You have to replace it with a freewheel hub rear wheel.

  • can u show me how to make a back tire from a bike not not brake stop

  • Sadly sometimes you have to resign yourself to the fact that you can't fix something and replace it. The other option is to start from scratch by dismantling the wheel and starting all over. Just make sure that your rim isn't bent before you start if you decide to do so.

    Gerry :)

  • my wheel is really fucked, its wobbliing vertically going up and down but ive tried to true it but its not working, any ideas?

  • My shop will be in order in a few weeks and I will be able to produce more videos then. I guess you'll just have to be patient.

    Gerry :)

  • Pretty good video, but all the noise makes it hard to understand. It also needs to be more comprehensive.

I've tried truing a few of my own wheelsets and while I have no problems getting rid of the wobble, I always wind up with a hop that I don't know how to fix. $15-$20 later and the problem is resolved by a bike shop.

Care to cover how to get rid of (or not cause) hops?

  • Bienvenue :) Yes I am in Montreal.

  • Merci Mr. Lauzon. Are you in Montreal?

  • Legend!

  • thanks,that was very helpfull .

  • xddorox in your description u said it was crappy well i think that this is the best video of bike truning on utube!

  • no, i ment an actual truing stand, which i did find on park tools, along with useful other tools for truing

  • look for it on ebay you´ll find any kind you can think of, I bought one recently and it works great

  • Check out Park Tools website.

  • does anyone know where i can get a wheel truer? i can't seem to find them in town, or even a website

  • What you are looking for is a "spoke wrench". they shouldn't be too hard to find.

  • How do you know if it needs out of true, or the rim is bent, oval-ed; and needs a whole new wheel?

  • ah. i looked for explanations and i didn't believe righty tighty lefty loosy was opposite.

i guess it really is. so clockwise=loosen/lengthen

    counterclockwise=tighten/shorten

  • depending on which way your looking at it, if you look at it from the outside (where the tire goes on) it is in fact right tight, left loose, if you look at the inside (spokes) it would be the way you mentioned

  • i'm confused at this. they say some clockwise and conter clockwise thing but i don't know if it is looking in the direction from the hub or the outside of the rim...

  • With standard threads, a part that you twist clockwise will always move away from you relative to the part you hold still. A part you twist counterclockwise will always move toward you relative to the part you hold still. Looking at the nipple from the outside of the rim, clockwise moves it away from you, toward the hub, tightening the spoke. Looking from the inside out, clockwise moves it away from you, loosening the tension on the spoke while counterclockwise brings it toward you (tighter).

  • Nicely put Maxrohrbaugh.

  • righty tighty lefty loosie

  • It's looking from the tire towards the hub

  • This helps a little cos truing/building IS an art! iv got about 10 rims that all eventually gave up broke spokes etc and coupled with labour charges/parts worked out cheaper to buy new, until now Thanks!

  • The most simple and explicative video about truing wheels in the web.

    Simple is good.

  • Hi,

This video is very helpful in truing a bike wheel

  • Nope, I said "Welcome to ask Bikeman", but I guess Ass Backman is a lot funnier. :)

  • yep he sead 'welcome to Ass Backman'

  • Did the bike tech say, "Welcome to Ass Backman" in the intro? Helpful vid though.

  • I think that the $20.00 or w.e it is you spend on the wheel aint worth siting there and messing with it.

  • $20 for a crap wheel yes, but I payed over $300 for mine. (with hope pro II hubs)

  • thats how much spokes are.

  • hehe, this whole tool that holds the wheel is so ridiculous and over the top! you can do the job by keeping the wheel on the bike and using the brakes as pointers.

  • Can someone tell me how much it costs to realign the wheel at a bike repair shop? My bike wheel is making noises against the brakes...

  • Just call your local shop, I would think it should be anywhere from $10-20.

  • sut u nobes ho cares about the noise u still can her him so shut great vid gerry keep them coming gerry thanks a lot of help

  • almost excelent, too much noise, but worth it.

  • What kind of music do you have at the end?

  • When you do a video make sure that you do it in a quiet place.

  • Hi Jerry. Thank you for the helpful video. You did great despite the noisy surroundings.

    More please. Rebern77.

  • Hey Gerry, Jeff here from the Rat Rod forum (aka) Casting Crowns. Great video. Very insightful. Keep em coming.
