You star guy! Worked great for me, saved a trip to the shop, cheated a bit, used the brake blocks as the guide and left the wheel on the upside down bike. Thanks from the UK
thanks Gerry, I just got a new bike and feel the wheels aren't right and I've had bad experience of damaging wheels before so didn't want to ride before getting it sorted.
Going to get myself a spoke key today and some other bits n' bobs. :)
I have to true it not left and right, but the wheel is wobbling up and down... The part that is wobbling lower is already super tight, so how the fuck do I fix that...
I would recommend you dont buy a wrench like that one. It only supports the nipple on two sides and can round it off quicker. Get one which contacts the spoke nipple on 3 or 4 sides. I always loose the right size on those things anyway.
@euyooo yes you can replace just about every piece on your bike but first you wanna make sure that it is only the axle thats broken or bent then when you get the piece(s) you need if you know how to put it together do so if not have someone install it because a new part does you no good if its not properly installed best of luck
Some important details when using the tool can not be seen or the video is cut right to the point. Maybe a longer more detailed video would have been better for everyone..kind of got the idea though
omg i took all the spokes out of two bmx wheels, sprayed on flourecent pink, and the other glow in the dark yellow. the spray jobs wer perfect, and the rims look imcredible. but i have no idea how to true the wheel. no offence but this video made it no more clearer as what i need to do. PLEASE SOME ONE HELP ME.
you are right. i only eyeball the rim over the brake pads. iv just done a full truing on my rear wheel. full i say coz i changed all the spokes on one of the wheel`s side.
Sadly sometimes you have to resign yourself to the fact that you can't fix something and replace it. The other option is to start from scratch by dismantling the wheel and starting all over. Just make sure that your rim isn't bent before you start if you decide to do so.
Pretty good video, but all the noise makes it hard to understand. It also needs to be more comprehensive.
I've tried truing a few of my own wheelsets and while I have no problems getting rid of the wobble, I always wind up with a hop that I don't know how to fix. $15-$20 later and the problem is resolved by a bike shop.
Care to cover how to get rid of (or not cause) hops?
depending on which way your looking at it, if you look at it from the outside (where the tire goes on) it is in fact right tight, left loose, if you look at the inside (spokes) it would be the way you mentioned
i'm confused at this. they say some clockwise and conter clockwise thing but i don't know if it is looking in the direction from the hub or the outside of the rim...
With standard threads, a part that you twist clockwise will always move away from you relative to the part you hold still. A part you twist counterclockwise will always move toward you relative to the part you hold still. Looking at the nipple from the outside of the rim, clockwise moves it away from you, toward the hub, tightening the spoke. Looking from the inside out, clockwise moves it away from you, loosening the tension on the spoke while counterclockwise brings it toward you (tighter).
This helps a little cos truing/building IS an art! iv got about 10 rims that all eventually gave up broke spokes etc and coupled with labour charges/parts worked out cheaper to buy new, until now Thanks!
hehe, this whole tool that holds the wheel is so ridiculous and over the top! you can do the job by keeping the wheel on the bike and using the brakes as pointers.
UNSCREW THE NIPPLE!!!

@IIIIAnonymousIIII Go on the opposite side of the wheel at that spot and slack the same number of spokes you have tightened on the other side.

Yep, probably the spokes on the opposite side are tight too and the other side goes lower as well, or not?
