Exactly i would never by a Ford again---all of them sux I loved my 98 SVT but after rebuilding the engine the freaking engine harness went bad :( 1 think to another I'm sticking to imports now more reliable and watt better resale valve but still own my SVT tho
It's the dash that is the problem, car runs & looks great! It's Ford's attitude that got to me Here is a company that just made 4 BILLion and can't even fix the problem they created. for $623.34.To me is the little man vs HUGH . Is that too much to ask that they take care of the problem that they admit to? Local dealership could or would not even tell me where to get it fixed! I would not buy or recommend another Ford product because of dealing with the dealership and company. Very aragont!
Wow, I had the same 1998 Contour SVT from 98-03' I put over 110,000 miles on it without a single problem. I just did the required service... Oil changes, brakes tires and a tuneup at 100k. She ran great right up to when I traded her in back in 2003. That sucks you got a lemon...Sorry to see and hear about this. I hope this issue gets resolved. Good luck to you. -Chris
Tons of people have had this problem. Ford issued a Technical Service Bulletin controlling this problem. The specific bulletin is Owner Notification Program 01B78-S2 issued in May, 2002. I don't remember the part number of the kit that has to be purchased as part of the service bulletin. Your best solution is to try and get an early 1998 dashboard (assuming your interior is Midnight Blue in color) and swap it in. Even early 1998 dashes can peel but they don't do it by the defroster vent.
I think you miss the point. Ford knew they have a problem with the dashboard and they recalled it. However Ford never notified John about the recall. Ford in their infinite wisdom, now say too bad... you shoulda called us sooner SOL. I DON'T THINK SO... SHAME ON FORD!!!
What on earth is wrong with FORD!!! You mean the problem was RECALLED BY FORD AND NOW THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE RECALL. SHAME.... SHAME....SHAME ON FORD..... THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING FORD DOES NOT CARE!
@1zig1 Both the dealerships and company said, "if we fix all of our problems, we would go broke", now isn't that refreshing? Believe me once you leave with the car, they do not want to see you back. I have had great luck with Chrysler, they went out of the way to make sure that I was satiffied!!!!

@ABeans07 It's a 2000, how did you get 13 years? That was one of the excuses it's 10 yrs old. Shouldn't it last longer that that?
