I was pointing out to wehatemacs that the car has a limited top speed because it only came with H rated tires from Chevrolet. Of course they make tires that can handle well over that speed, or there would be a lot of cars with low top speed governors. Part of the point is that it's not necessarily easy to remove a speed limiter.

The crown vics were heavily modified engine wise, maybe they didnt need to do that when getting the charger.

Vics does more then that and with the police interceptor that cops have the go around 156mph with upgraded suspesions, don't forget all police cars are chipped adding even more ponies to the car so you can expect there cars to do 156mph+. The reason why they aren't going fast is because the first guy slows them down, and the first guy cant mess up or else boom.

I do differ from you in another point though, we in my oppinion do need vehicles to reach speeds of ~90mph for reasons such as passing traffic.

@JamesReadythe5th Almost every new car is governor limited. Ford governor limits most of their vehicles the slowest speeds, around 110MPH. Even the 2011 Mustang is Limited to 113MPH. This also allows the automakers to cut costs and increase net profits by using cheaper driveline parts, driveshafts, etc... This doesn't work out too well on the German autobahn. On another note, many of the new police vehicles are much faster. Police Charger = 146MPH, Police Impalla 154MPH. You can't run!
