  • hey david, one thing id like to point out is that these newer designed keyboards feels worse than the thinkpad of the t400. you can compare the keyboard used for the w500 with the w510 and feel the noticible difference between the two. the w500 oone feels better than the w510

  • Hello David Hills,

I really miss the thinkpads with the square screen design. Its easier to work with the standard old screen designs rather the wide or extra wide movie screen sizes. Hope you consider. Thank you.

  • so david, mind explaining why there are hairline cracks along the palmrest of the thinkpad t410s along with squeaky/creaky palmrest in the thinkpad t510?

on the other note, these laptops in terms of performance and durability are still the best.

    -typed from a t510

  • Thanks david. I must admit and make the statement loud and clear.. If it comes to high build quality and powerful superb machine, i will choose IBM ThinkPad with no hesitation at all. never use those crappy bad build quality which includes Sony, hp, Apple, etc. the bottomline, the best laptop ever made is: IBM ThinkPad. since 90's

  • Just bought a new one on e-bay for £800 with a 128GB SSD and 4GB Ram. It's technically obsolete by about 7-8 months, but at lest than half price, that's my strategy. Let's see how she stacks up.

    Will be my 5th ThinkPad.

Oh and once you make the investment and get used to the trackpoint, nothing else comes close.

  • There is a rumour going around of the T410s. This will be the ultimate thinkpad, and I think the coolest one since the 701c / Thinkpad Butterfly. Dual thinklights, super clean design including the removal of the Lenovo logo on the lid... if the rumours ring true, that machine will replace my current T400.

  • Yeah, me again. i get the feeling they gonna move these comments but im voicing my opinion. My A22m was a champ, heavy but a champ. This R61 i got doesnt have the quality feel of the a22, the plastic on the keyboard is coarser, not as smooth, i miss my HARDWARE volume that i can manage even when windows is frozen. How about that instead if a bigger del and esc key huh? Dont get me wrong, i love this R61, but i think u guys are cutting corners to save bucks and still uping the price.

  • Ok, now i have owned 2 thinkpads, this should be my third, but i wanna know, why on earth, this man designed this laptop with the mic and headphone jack in one port? Huh, plz! was is so hard to put a second hole in the big blank space RIGHT THERE? Dont overdo it lenovo. IBM gave u the blueprints for the best in the world. If u make the DELETE key bigger it increases the chance of ppl hitting it! Weve been used to the del key in that spot at that size since the 80's. Im an angry IBMer

  • I know that this laptop is a good machine. But what is the red button for at the middle of the keyword? And couldn't it be a different color, like black?

  • its not a button

  • it's a trackpint which every thinkpad feeatures...it's an alternative to a touchpad which actually works quite well

  • if anyone here has a T400s please message me. in interested getting one and i wanna ask you some questions. thanks

  • guys i'm lost. i can't decide between a MBP 15 and the T400s. one has a better camera, the other has better keyboard, one has a better screen the other has biult in GPS and fingerprint reader... and so on... help!!!! :P

    anyone here OWNS a t400s?

  • if i were you, i'd ask myself: do u i really need a "good" webcam in my notebook? do i need built in gps in my notebook? do i need a fingerprint reader?

in my opinion, a webcam is overrated. at least i don't use it very often, as i am not that often on business trips and stuff like that. i got a quite decent a-gps on my n97. i'd prefer the t400s, cause it's definitely a high-end business machine, and that's what i'm looking for.

  • no wonder why the current T400s are selling for ~$500

  • just bought the current gen for $470, gonna return it until the new ones come

  • No thanks, I will stick with Thinkpad. It's just overall a lot better experience for me than Macbooks. Starting from typing , which is really terrible on Macbook(chicklet KB, wrist cutting edge, getting hot as hell). Thinkpads' KB is a lot better, the chicklet keyboards are useless for touch typing, while Thinkpad's KB are great for it, especially thanks to trackpoint (such an awesome idea, a miracle for anyone who types a lot). Thinkpads keep their temperature low, led owns backlit KB etc.

  • I sell both Macs and ThinkPads - and I'm sorry to say the failure rate has been higher on the fruity side.

Apples forums have horror stories, too - whether you get screwed in such a case mostly depends on which repair centre (those are contractors) your laptop is sent to - there's been horrid and great experiences with both brands here, only depending on which centre did the repair.

As in any other area, the world isn't that black and white.

  • Wow, you've been burned bad

I've been using my T60 for 2 years, and my next one won't be anything other than a thinkpad

  • I never use the esc key... lol

  • Bad experience with support can completely ruin a brand for you, agreed.

I rather they keep building well-thought-out laptops instead of selling them via reality distortion field and hyperbole.

I'm typing this on a MBP 2.5", hating the keyboard, missing the trackpad and burning my legs. I catch myself using my old R61 more and more often. If only Mac OS X wouldn't fit my needs a tad better than Windows.

As soon as Win7 is out, I'll happily switch back. Really liked it in my tests so far.

  • Trackpoint. Not Trackpad. Sorry. Wouldn't mind multitouch in UltraNav, though.

  • 2.5GHz, not inches. I'll shut up now and get some much needed coffee.

  • Looks like you still have the Fn key to the left of the Ctrl key. Big thumbs down!

  • Big thumbs up!

Once used to it, there is no way back.

  • Nah, it really gets lost in those dozens of solidly built 14" laptops that weigh significantly less then 2kg while sporting a 2.5GHz Core2Duo. Sheesh.
