@waitswatcher I came back to listen again tonight! Any chance you have the audio posted somewhere where I might be able to download it? I can't seem to listen to it enough!! :)
Even if YouTube had given us only the opportunity to hear and see this extraordinary musical and visual talent it would be one of the greatest inventions of our time.
Glad to be here at the same time as WW (and VB!)... :)
Thank you Pascal - and viel Glück und Freude für Dich!
I was listening to Tom Waits the other day, and for a second I thought "Hey, is this a waitswatcher-cover?! I'm sure I've heard this one by Pascal before!" Then I realized, it's propably the other way around... Heh.
This is wonderful - all of your Tom Waits performances are exceptional! I just posted a version of'Way Down In The Hole' that is woeful next to what you're doing here. Keep them coming!

you should wriggle in your own discontent. imagine the worms eating your flesh. and then ...maybe then, discuss the endevors of others who have done so
you can't hold back time or change. modern technology is only going to become more pervasive. instead of throwing yourself against the wheel and being crushed by it why not embrace it? dive in feet first take a good look around your new and insane environment and then make it your own. put your stamp on it if you don't like what you see help fill it with what you would like. we are but tool using monkeys but what tools we have to play with.
Another point is that without the internet there would be no true free speech, i know the internet is monitored to an extent but only a fraction of the extent that the television is ruled and free speech crushed by the powers that be. If the internet was gone nowdays we'd be stuck listening to what the government want us to hear. I hope you use the internet for some important things fellman such as researching things easily instead of just posting your repetetive drivel over and over.
we arent at all arguing taking Waits off the internet because he is so precious, we are trying to protect art from this ridiculous automated world, all the artists on here and anywhere else on the internet. The internet has made art disgustingly casual. though it wont happen, its nice to imagine.
you've obviously got a strong radical stance about this "automated world." don't blame the internet for anything man. it's just the way things are. they didn't like it when the piano roll was invented, either, and you could listen to piano music whenever. but they dealt with it. it may be very soon that recorded music is worth nothing and musicians have to make a living touring and selling merch. i think waits will be fine! as for my music career...we'll see! :-)
Ms Succubus has displayed immense courage and integrity by expressing her views, which are very valid. It is fools like you, who blindly support a technology without first questioning it (as well as the many who are simply indifferent to art and how it's used) who are an enemy of art, culture, and humanity. your musical career will never take off in this current climate, it will be imbibed and execreted and flushed down the toilet. you haven't a chance.
Microphones, electric guitars, amps, control boards, tape decks, organs, lights, records, tapes, cds, tv, radio, all of these are forms of technology. Which of these do you want to do away with?
those are effective and creative uses of technology. the web and web way of life are destructive. they threaten the very spirit of art and humanity. if you don't know what i'm talking about, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
thanks for the encouragement. i'm not trying to say who's wrong or right--i'm just stating what's so. good luck trying to get rid of the internet if that's what you're out to do. me, i'll innovate and create. in this climate, there's more opportunity than ever for musicians, just not record labels.
miss succubus, you are a wonderful soul. Your opinions are both valid and vital. Thank you for speaking out against this fast-food approach to music that is pervading our society and destroying genuine culture. You are great, and I support your views with ALL MY HEART AND SOUL.
Casual art? So who died and appointed you "king of art?" Lets see the same could have been said of early recordings. Going to a record store was more convenient than going to a club. I hate to break it to you but you can't change a thing.
Why are you people talking about Waits? It's a Waits' song but there's NO Waits there - it's an instrumental cover.
On Topic: a really nice try, love the video, but I guess you know that you had no real chances to come close to the original. My favourite Waits' song ever!
I would love to say that getting this music off the internet could happen but few dreams are possible, unfortunately thats the only valuable thing I have learned from this disgusting mechanical daze we call life.
why the hell would you get Tom Waits off the internet? you can have stupid things on here like people lipsynching to pop songs and instructional videos for useless crap but you cant have a man sing his heart out and show the world what real music can do to you? its closed minded people like you that make me ill. Its this kind of stupidity that makes me simply livid.
Waits' work is too precious to be callously displayed on such a lifeless medium such as the internet. The internet comes in the guise of progress and globalization, when in actuality it is a force that threatens to undermine the essense of art, imagination, and wonder.
The "lifeless" Internet is a medium, the people can decide how to use it. And there a many people in here. Some of them with good intent some of them with bad. But why we should damn it categoricaly. It is a medium we can use by OURSELF, we can create things with it(art, new wonders), we can share things that are importent to us. So why the hell we should "get Waits of the internet"?. You have the choice: Dont come here and dont watch youtube.
waits' music is too precious not to be delivered to the world. i had never seen him perform EVER before youtube. now i can lose myself in his performance.
and in front of laptop. go into a forest, meditate, smoke weed, mainline heroin, hop a train, jump off a plain, fall asleep on a street corner. .. just don't buy into this laptop way of life...it's pathetic.
...and you're replying to me with...stone and chisel? :-) you can visit my flickr account detailing the latest rock climbing adventure i had this month; or the horse back riding trip a couple weeks ago; or the shows i've recently played; or the....dude--you're totally assuming you know who i am. besides, heroine and weed are much more life-numbing than any machine in MY life. it's a privilege and enrichment to my already abundant life to see tom on youtube.

Oh, he does care! Waits does NOT like the way his and other great artists' music is being displayed on youtube. In fact, his work has nothing to do with an "internet." This environment is going to kill off any culture left in America, and turn it into one soulless country-club. It's already happening.
Give me a date when that will happen and I'll mark it on my calendar. Great song title, the day the art died. I'm looking forward to it, right after global warming.
haha it's already a soulless country club; America thinks its more important than it really is; its still just a colony. What are you afraid of losing exactly? what you may lose may be replaced with something soulful all depending on what we learn from the internet while it is still here for everybody.
i understand your hatred for the internet, but in posting on youtube you come across as a complete hypocrite, the day i see tom waits played on mtv or v i will rejoice because it means there are some good people in the world and culture will live...
you are a moron. plain and simple your are simple and plain. you are a simp. you post on the internet dispairing the internet.

Kathy I understand that you are trying to get Waits off the internet because such beauty dosnt deserve to be stripped of its dignity by being played at a whim and at no cost, but I, and many others (being of a much younger audience) will never be able to see this beauty in person and are forced to rely on our automated world to deliver beauty.
