I edit in full 1080 and then export in the official ratio of the film, which is easy in the Export options; select h.264 1920x1080p, then crop the source at exactly 105 pixels above and below, then choose the full widescreen ratio option under the h.264 options and select scale to fit on top of the export window. You end up with full 1920 x about 900 pixels, which looks amazing tested on large 1080 screens and should kill in theaters.
Is there a way that I can make the letterbox slide in from the bottom and top in one part of a clip and then slide back out after a certain period of time???
@ShawnGameTV With adobe premiere, crop from the top and bottom until they match with the letterbox provided, then remove the letterbox. Then, you just set keyframes for the crop from 0% to whatever matched with the letterbox. Then bam, moving letterbox cutscene style.
When you are shooting, what do you find is the best way to compensate for the letterbox you add in post, do you put like paper over your lcd or something? Thanks for the great video.
you should use your programs the other way around because premiere pro cs5.5 has mercury playback engine so if you are doing effects it would be much easier to collaborate with other programs unless you have a personal reason why you use final cut for long projects
It seems much easier then my way xD I just used After Effects CS5. I opened a new composition in like 1920x816 or different and dropped the footage in there without scaling it down. That way I get the same result when going full screen or on YouTube without actually adding the black bars in post. But I guess this is handier :p
@0hmish Hey it's Josh from FilmDogPro. I'm to lazy to sign into my other account to reply. Lol, I haven't noticed much of a problem with it, after rendering. Sometimes you will get that though because I have seen it happen before. Sometimes your able to just re-frame the image and it will work to fix it.
@0Kimchi0 Well it depends, if you had that video track visible. Try it again.... depending on the size of your footage, and size of your screen you may have to use a bigger template. Try it out again and let me know!
@TechGirlProductions The T2i is an Amazing Camera. If all goes well and we begin to attract more subscribers we may just give one lucky person a brand new one! Uh Oh! : ) Subscribe!
@cashimirs Sorry if the link did not work... I do not know why it wouldn't work for you! Try again! I re-linked it. You may have to wait a few seconds.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to figure this out for my Adobe and you make it so simple. Thanks! :)

The problem with this is that the edges of the image are visible, a little bit. When viewing something very bright, I see thin lines
