I am desperately looking for a videao very the respectful shree alermel valli danced on a thillana music wearing an orange blouse, it is the same thillana that aparna ramsawamy dance also..is there any body who can help me retrace this video. thank you. my email is gracemathuvirin@gmail.com. thank you very much. I will be for ever grateful.
Very nice. Shes very kind-hearted & conscious of the issues in her culture & w/her young students. So many teachers in the West have become focused on money or being well known in their communities. The quality has gone & although there are young beautiful dancers today very few develop their own style w/in the tradition they learn & stop dancing once they have completed their arangetrams. I'm very impressed w/Valli's thinking & emphasis on quality. What a lovely teacher she must be.
@vidaripollen I guess it is what is important- it takes time & also environments that nurture. Perhaps that is why the trad. was preserved in families & why students used to live w/teachers. Still there is separation among musicians & dancers- in the West as well. I think the real prob. is finding the right guru to inspire & teach well- so many run through the basics to get students performing because that is what their parents want & pay them for... this also can distract.
Great clip. I love it when she says "Everyone wants things very very fast...you have instant cake mixes, instant puddings, and now they want instant dance."

One of the greatest exponents of bharata natyam. Her abhinaya is excellent! Not to speak of her technique!
