The sign of an amateur is that they don't play the arpeggio at a MEDIUM speed cleanly. It's either WAY slow or WAY fast (and sloppy). If you skip the middle in practice, you'll never play it fast cleanly because you will play it wrong at a fast speed and then just keep playing it wrong out of habit. Trying to play something beyond your means isn't wrong. It's just wrong when you claim to be teaching it to others. :)
